  • Great pan - 4 years on!
has developed a lovely patina and is still going strong 4 years later.

  • Love This Thing
I wanted a Le Creuset Dutch oven for years and finally made it happen. Part of me considered being a cheapskate and getting a $100 Dutch oven, but I decided I had to go with Le Creuset or nothing, and got the 5.5 quart version. I'm glad I made that decision. I only use this for my wife and me, but we have hearty appetites and like leftovers, so the 5.5 quart is not too big for us. The size is good for a whole chicken, 5 lb. pork shoulder, or beef roast. I've used my Dutch oven almost 10 times now for baking bread, making stews and curries, roasting pork shoulder and whole chicken, and frying food. My pictures are after those 10ish uses. The enamel cleans off really easily (might take a little soaking first), and the Dutch oven is holding up well. I've been babying my Dutch oven by cleaning it after it cools and storing it in its box after each use. The Le Creuset is nice and heavy, and holds heat really well. I now know why Le Creuset demands a premium price. If you're deciding between this and a cheaper model, spend the extra money. ... show more

  • Very impressed.
Ordered this for my wife for Christmas. She was absolutely thrilled and just the other night got a chance to make us a braised chicken dish on the stovetop. The food turned out great, and she loved cooking with it. I got the flame color as it seems to be the most iconic, and the picture shows it pretty accurately. It is bright and beautiful in person. Obviously Le Creuset cookware is not cheap but I was able to look over the piece very closely and from what I can tell the quality is fantastic. I am glad to pay for good quality, provided it lasts for a long time. All indications point to this dutch oven being a lifetime piece. ... show more

  • My spouse is very pleased
I looked at the 100 dollar models at a popular big box store and they were all chipped and the covers could have fit better. So far, this one has not chipped. It is like the pleasure of using a finely crafted ratchet set. It gives you a good feeling that can help one deal with inevitable frustrations. I love the large handles that are easy to hold onto even with bulky, oversized oven mitts. I got the 5.5 quart version so it is not quite so heavy when turning it over and over to wash it in the sink. The finish is very nice and the flame orange I find very attractive. ... show more

  • Product defective and they won't honor their "lifetime warranty"
The seller does not deliver on their warranty claims. I've gone back and forth on it 10+ times with their CS, they keep claiming we used metal on it when we never did, all our utensils are plastic because I know how to take care of my kitchen gear and I want to have products that last. So effectively I think they have this policy that they use for advertising but they instruct CS never to honor the claims, as far as I can tell. I won't be buying from Le Creuset ever again, the deception and stress is just not worth it (nor is the price tag if the product is defective and they refuse to fix it). ... show more

  • If I could marry a pot...
This thing is a total workhorse and worth every single penny. I was hesitant to drop this much on a single pot, but it does everything, and very well. A prodigy of the kitchen is what I call it. So I don't have a gas stove as my condo building doesn't have gas service, so I'm relegated to those crappy ceramic stove tops. This pot handles it like a pro. I've made everything from chili, to brown butter lobster risotto, to cornbread, to braised you-name-it, to pot roast to soup... you get the point. ALWAYS comes out great. From the stovetop, to the oven, to the fridge - you are covered. I've seared, braised, baked, roasted, etc. in it and again, a workhorse. It just works great and heats evenly. I'm switching to an induction cooktop next year as I hate my electric and it's also compatible with that!!!! It's heavy on it's own, and when totally filled can be pretty darned heavy, so keep that in mind. Also, to keep it clean - BAR KEEPERS FRIEND is the go-to. Cheap, and it really does work. Cleaning this is easy and nothing really sticks unless you totally burn it, but then again, just scrub for a few seconds with that bar keepers friend and boom - all gone. I love this so much I'm ordering a 3qt version. Oh, and it looks great. and you can literally serve right out of this. Highly recommended. ... show more

  • Makes the best stew!!
I had one like this, same color, about 40+ years ago. This is a larger one and I love it. I especially love the larger handles. Yes, it's still heavy but that's what makes the stew turn out soooo yummy!! Everything cooks so well in it. Even though I'm only cooking for two now, I use it for pretty much everything! Don't even remove it from the stove since it's also pretty to look at (and too heavy to move all the time :)) Can't go wrong with Le Creuset. ... show more

  • Cleans up extremely easily. Seems like quite a solid kitchen utensil and ...
Wife LOVES this. It is outrageously expensive, but we definitely use this for anything with any tomato sauces, can use for stew into the oven then take out and toss on stove top and add roux to it to thicken, use it for mexican, biscuits and gravy, you name it. Cleans up extremely easily. Seems like quite a solid kitchen utensil and the wife uses it multiple times a week. Bite the bullet, buy this and you won't be disappointed. update: 4 years later, still 5+ stars, still using it multiple times weekly, would still buy again at the ~$300 price point. ... show more
