I was heartened by the width cited in the product description, but it is a full inch shorter at the interior cooking surface at the base. That said, it is unquestionably a fine overall capacity for most requirements of a braise for up to 4 persons, and the construction, fit, and finish are in the top class. At its present price it is even possible to say one isn’t spoiling oneself, to use it for tasks whose criteria it greatly exceeds. It’s a fine instrument, of obviously infinite durability. This is my 3rd Le Creuset Enameled cast iron pot. It is wonderful. I recently used one to make a loaf of sour dough bread and it baked perfectly. I love being in the kitchen and cooking and this pot makes it a pleasure. Yes, they are a little pricey, but the old saying goes, you get what you pay for. It is definitely worth the money.
