🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The reviews for the Launch scanner are overwhelmingly positive, highlighting its excellent value, robust feature set, and its ability to work on a wide range of vehicles. Users appreciate the durability, the comprehensive functionality, including ECU coding, key coding (with mixed success), and the helpful customer service from the seller. However, some limitations are noted for specific vehicle models and older cars, and additional costs for updates and modules might be a consideration for some buyers.

Pros

  • 🔧 Excellent value and wide range of functionalities
  • 🚗 Compatibility with a variety of vehicles, including luxury cars like Audi and Porsche
  • 📱 Robust build quality with touch screen and button navigation, including a camera feature for sharing diagnostics
  • 💡 Efficient customer service and seller support
  • 🔋 Versatile functions beyond code reading, like ECU coding and service resets

Cons

  • ⏲ Some additional costs for updates and specific modules
  • 🚘 Limited capabilities for certain vehicles, notably older models and specific makes like Volkswagen MK4
  • 📏 Short OBD2 cable, though extension cables are available

Should I Buy It?

If you are looking for a comprehensive tool for vehicle diagnostics that offers great value and broad compatibility with various vehicles, the Launch scanner is a strong candidate. It's particularly recommended for users who appreciate having a range of functionalities at their fingertips. However, if your primary need is key coding for specific models like the Volkswagen MK4, you may want to explore specialized tools. Overall, for its price point, the tool's pros far outweigh its cons, making it a worthy investment for both professional and amateur mechanics.

  • Quick connects to DLC
Just got this scanner and had to hook it up to the car to see what it can do. Connecting to the car with the cord provided was enough and didn't feel like it pulling you too the dlc. Once connected, the scanner went right to work reading the Vin. Did a good job reading the Vin and choosing the right car. Starting playing around with scanner to see what it can do. Going through the module was pretty quick and the next screen was fast. Didn't need to sit there that long for it to read all the modules. Did find some codes for me car, but I'll worry about that later Notice it has alot of reset for alot of different things. Going to be useful when I have to deal with all this make to reset stuff. Saw it had a battery voltage program, so you could look at the battery during starting and charging to see if you alternator is working. I'm assuming to also look at when starting to see how low it goes. One feature that did surprise is that they had the I/M readiness program right at the starting of the scanner. I know alot of people that use this when checking the readiness for smog relate stuff. I live in California, so smog is pretty important. Nice scanner can't wait to check it out on other cars and trucks ... show more

  • A great tool for the box and excellent value!
First off the support from the seller (Kingbolen) is amazing. I had my doubts but other buyers called them out for the support and that is why I picked them over others. They spent a lot of timing with me making sure I bought the right unit and I am happy with the end choice. The unit is not perfect but the value proposition can't be beat. I ended up with an "all makes" version rather than the more limited units that I could have bought modules for but this was probably less expensive in the long term even though I will need to buy updates after two years. At least I know I will be able to plug into almost any car I run across. I keep running out to my cars to play with the Launch. I even volunteered to help a friend with an Audi just so I could try out the scanner on it (and yes, it lit up like a Christmas tree). I keep finding more features but I admit that it isn't always easy to find what you want. I expect this will get better with time and familiarity. The unit is rugged feeling and has all sorts features. I didn't realize it had a camera that is easy to use with a flash and you can send the pictures via emails. It also has a screenshot feature that can be turned on leaving a camera icon on the screen you can tap. When you get the unit be prepared to update it. I set it to update before I went to sleep and let it do its thing. It was all set by the morning. If there are negatives I would say the OBD2 cable is a little short but you can get an extension. Had I thought about it maybe one of the units with the wireless OBD2 adapter would have been nice, but it isn't a game changer for me. The round BMW adapter I got doesn't fit in the storage side of the box but that isn't any issue from Launch's side. Over all this is a great value and so far I am happy with the unit. ... show more

  • functionality
I spent the last 4 days test driving my new OBD2 Launch X461 CRP919E scanner and it's amazing. It is a bi-directional scanner that will tell you what has failed on the vehicle and allows you to program and reset modules such as TPMS and steering wheel angle sensor. The tool is 100% professional grade and would be a welcome addition to any professional shop. The unit is also cost effective enough to be uses by auto enthusiast for the ability to be informed. I highly recommend this for anybudy involved in the automotive repair industry and this is from someone involved in the automotive industry for 55 years. ... show more

  • Does not work on VW
Bought this 2 years ago to code keys for a Volkswagen MK4; I can safely say I made all research possible, this DOES NOT WORK FOR VOLKSWAGEN MK4, after half a year I bought a $40 cheap Chinese key programmer and that DID work, to my surprise!. Not sure what to make of that, however, for anybody looking for a key programmer look elsewhere this just doesn't do the job, it just won't connect the either the ECU or the Instrument cluster, I've updated the scanner every time it asks for it and even bought the IMMO module for about $36 on the Mall option inside the tool, that ended badly, now it asks for another piece of Launch equipment that cost about $540 on top of the $400 that this originally cost me, UNBELIEVABLE!, I'm done with Launch, the only equipment they sell that might work are those above the $1000 price tag, for 1 single key coding? not happening!!! , hope this helps someone to avoid falling into the pit as it happened to me. ... show more

  • questionable product with good function
To be fair, it is highly functional and I was fairly impressed at how well it could access modules on the vehicle and perform the advertised 2 way communication. My purchase looked physically used, and had other vehicles in the history. This didn't bother me initially, as it seemed like a good product, and well made. I could not access PIN numbers on security modules, but it didn't advertise the ability to do so either. This would have been a nice feature, and is available on other devices. My problems came after some limited use programming a vin on an ECM. After this function completed, I could no longer access the ECM to erase the check engine codes. I tried other devices that I own, and the function was easily performed. As I continued to try to access other modules on the vehicle, the device seemed to become more glitchy, showing functions that didn't exist on the module, and telling me that it could not access some functions that I knew it should be able to. Now I start to wonder if the unit was used and returned due to similar concerns as mine. I am a little torn on this product and review. I was impressed with the unit, and wanted to see what it was capable of on other vehicles, but I am concerned about the problems I had and how it would perform the next time I pulled it out to use. Ultimately, I am sending this unit back. I would be willing to try another device from this company, but spending $500 to have a questionable unit in my toolbox is too much. ... show more
