I was very surprised with how well this cage is made - especially for the price. I would consider this a dupe critter nation. It’s smaller than the popular brand but I wasn’t wanting one that large anyways. Pay attention to the measurements before purchase just in case you are looking for something that large. The bar spacing is good for older pet rats like our girls are (between 6-8 months old). I think our 8 week olds would slip through but in a couple of weeks I think they’d be able to fit just fine. Something I did not comprehend before the purchase was that the doors on each level only open up on the right. So you won’t have open access to everything in the care. You’ll have to reach around to place things in. I also took the advice from someone else who left a review and bought corrugated board from Michaels for the bottom so our rats weren’t walking on the grids. If this company were to make optional pans or little bins that fit into the cage for purchase I’d gladly buy them as an upgrade. Our girls are used to having a large litter pan so I’ve had to create some using storable bins and containers from the Dollar Tree. I do wish that the bottom of the cage had some solid height to make it easier to create that for them (again some bins or trays). I’ve thought about using plexiglass and attaching to the doors and sides to fix that issue but due to the doors only opening on one side I’m not sure I can do it now that it’s together and they are inside of it. The locks are something I was surprised that I liked. I’ve had a critter nation for rats before (about 8 years ago) and I struggle with pinching the locks together. My hands are small, and due to years of typing, crafting I do have carpel tunnel and tendinitis in my hands. This cage doesn’t give me the same issues as the critter nation does. I just make sure to give the doors a little tug when I lock them just to make sure they are in place. The shelves and ramps could easily be removed if you don’t want them in the cage. Makes more room for toys and other things someone may want to add. I’m not sure about the grid in the middle of the cage as my husband put it together for me while I was away. All in all, I’m very happy with the price, the size, and the quality of the item. I may purchase another one in the future if we end up with more critters.

The media could not be loaded. Easy to put together, sturdy, and the doors and locks are high quality. I have a cat that would love to get ahold of my squirrel, but because this is raised a little off the ground it helps with that, and I do not foresee any escapes. Also should be easy to clean with the nice grate and “litter box” underneath! After putting enough of this type of thing together, I have found if you don’t tighten the screws all the way until you have most parts put together, it fits together a little nicer. Then tighten up each screw a little at a time, moving to the next, thennnn tighten each one up all the way. Rather than tightening each screw all the way the first time you put the screw in. If that makes sense! It is a spacious little home for Pipsqueak, though she wants anything but to be caged up! So lots of outside of the cage time in store, but I can’t wait until she makes her nest and it becomes her safe place. It is large, but fits nicely anywhere in the house. Lots of spots to hang hammocks, and I love the covers that come with it to put over the platforms and ladders. Definitely happy with this cage. After looking at quite a few, I am glad I landed on this one.

Bought this to house 2 female baby rats. So far I am loving the quality. Its pretty sturdy and bigger than I thought it was going to be! However, if you are going to buy this cage, I need you to be physically and mentally prepared for the HOURS you will be building this. I don’t think I’m that bad with building things like this - I can build anything from IKEA with a good amount of confidence. But I spent so long trying to figure out how this cage is supposed to be put together. First of all, the individual pieces that the (largely ripped) instructions said to use are combined, so it took me more time than I would like to admit to figure out that I wasn’t missing pieces. Many of the bars were also bent out of shape (which isn’t a big deal they are easy to mend back into place) and I had to hammer a lot of edges down so that they would fit where I needed them to go, which was frustrating. A lot of the pieces also look very similar so have fun with the incredibly vague instructions. Finally, one of the doors kept coming off the hinges because the screw was not properly welded into place so I (again) had to fix that myself. Other than the set-up process I think it’s a good cage for the price. Just be warned that I did loose brain cells figuring out how to put it together.

Assembly instructions would have been useful but none of the pieces were labeled. Took 2 1/2 hours to assemble. Sides are flimsy and the latches are marginal at best. When you are assembling do not tighten til the end or you will never line up the screws. Frustrating process which would have easily been resolved with labeling the pieces.
