  • Delivers what it promises
The media could not be loaded. I was on the fence about ordering this but I'm glad I did. We love to have a fire in the fireplace on winter evenings but our busy schedules sometime mean I don't have firewood readily available. This puts out a good flame but should not be looked at as an alternative source of heat. Just fill it, give it some charcoal starter, and light it off. If it starts to die down just stir it with the poker and it come back up again. We're very satisfied. ... show more

  • Works very well for me, ALOT of heat and clean burning without the snow, dirt and bugs of wood.
Ok, first off I wanted to give an honest review. If you own a woodstove and are on the fence as to buying a pellet stove and dropping $1500+ like I was and hoping for a good honest review before I paid $150 for a basket. I live in an area without alot of trees, my wood supply is sketchy at best, I still want to be able to burn wood when I can get it but want the multifuel option when I can't and I wanted a clean wood supply that my wife does not have to go out and bring in the wood if she does not want to and I am at work. #1 For those who said this does not produce enough heat, you obviously never really got it going. #2 Wood pellets in my experience burn HOT and with little ash and NO popping of embers (this is important later). #3 The pellets are a little harder to get going at first, they rely on the smoke when they burn to help with the combustion (I actually put them out by running the exhaust fan and removing the smoke from the pellets.Remember the smoke is flamable, you have to have an open flame in the stove or you may get a low key but exciting flashover whoosh. Just fyi. #4 Once you have the top burning you have to STIR the burning ones into the ones under or it will just burn at around 250 degrees from the top down and not make the heat you want, I think this is the step where some give up and say it doesnt work, trust me once the first basket burns down and leaves a glowing set of coals you will have good heat coming from them. #5 Once you have the coals at the bottom just add a few scoops every hour or so to maintain the burn, again stirring if they do not light off immediately. DO NOT REFILL THE BASKET unless you want ALOT of heat, I did this the first time I had coals and I had an orange stovepipe 3' above the stove, I had to open the stove door and let it cool down (where the no popping of embers like wood does comes in handy,) Now I just put 2-3 scoops in, stir and let her burn. #6 I think this is a very viable option for us to burn wood pellets when we want a clean source of fuel without having to go drudge the firewood in full of bugs and snow and ice. Bear in mind I really WANTED this to work so I did not have to pay BIG $ for a new pellet stove that would not work if the power is out. Wood pellets DO take more pampering to make it work effectively so if you just want to throw some logs in and walk away it may not be a good option for you but I only burn on weekends and at night if I am motivated so it works very well for me. On edit, after 3 months of use my basket is as it was when unboxed, I dont know what the reviewers that said theirs melted or "fell apart" were using to start the fire with, possibly an acetlyene torch? Anyway works great for me, I leave the woodstove door open as these do not pop embers like firewood and the radiant heat warms the area nicely. ... show more

  • Interesting basket but return policy sucks
The media could not be loaded. Overall the item is meh…ok. I say this because if you have pellets and you want to try it out in a wood burner then it does hold the pellets somewhat and burns to some advantage but also dies down fast. The problem is, it does not give off much heat. You must keep feeding the baskets because it dies down so quickly. If you have the wood burning fireplace you might as well stick with the wood since it gives off way better heat. The pellets used in basket finished in less than two hours and that was with a half bag. What I can say as a positive note is, the ambiance of the basket with the pellets are cute but the again you do not get that flame you get from he wood. You might as well stay with your wood stove or just buy an actual pellet stove if you really want efficiency. You may be spending way more buying pellet bags than enjoying the heat. As far as the sellers side… you must wait for the seller to approve your return request first and remember you only have 7 days from the day you receive it, meaning you better get all the stuff you need to use with the basket before buying it (pellets, fire starter, etc) so you can test it out at your own discretion in a timely manner. Return policy sucks… already paid a lot for the shipping to then be charged an extra $40 reship fee, and a $50 restocking free. So you do the math and think to yourself… “is it’s worth the hassle?” Overall, it’s more of an inconvenience to have to deal with terms like that. Good luck if you decide on testing out the item and hopefully it works better for you than it did for us. ... show more

  • ease of use
this item is to enable the user to burn pellets in a wood stove instead of a pellet stove, the problem is that the unit is so tall that there is barely an inch of clearance to enable the user to feed pellets into the basket which is going to make refueling a very cumbersome process. This item is best suited for a fireplace. ... show more

  • works great!
I am not sure what some people are saying this didn't work or that pellets fall through the basket. I have an old Fisher wood stove. Not airtight by a long shot. We got the basket at the end of a cold snap in Maine that was hitting a 5 year low -14 with a wind chill of -42 no joke. We filled it about half full used a little charcoal lighter and off it went. Our biggest problem is getting the damper set tight enough so the load burns a little but not roaring. We can fill the basket at 9:30-10:00 pm and the house is 70-72 at 6am with coals in the bottom to light the new load. Our house is roughly 1200 sq ft, I highly recommend. The only cons to this basket was the weld spatter as it was sharp, it twisted a little when it was welded but not enough to bother me and the paint smell is still burning off. The pics are of the first fire, the dampers where we usually run the stove and the temp gage in the center back. We are very happy with this and now plan to get 2 tons of pellets for next season, it's not the most efficient way to burn pellets but the alternative is dropping 2500.00 at least for the stove and then the liner for the chimney plus install. ... show more

  • This doesn’t work
They shouldn’t be allowed to market/sell these because they don’t work. The whole concept of burning pellets in a fireplace using a basket is ridiculous. They didn’t burn hot, didn’t put out heat, burned out too fast, etc… I would have returned it but by the time I was able to try it, it was too late to return it. ... show more

  • Seems study
I have not used this basket yet, but it seems to be very put together.
