  • Good chipper
The chipper was easy to assemble. There are some shortfalls in the instructions such as the little blue piece of metal that seems to be for closing off the upper chute. Unless I missed it, there is nothing specific about how to mount it. CON: The bag is nice quality however, the chips pile up right at the discharge chute and tend to back up into the cutting chamber. I had to stop twice to unclog chips. Then I left the bag off and went to town on the rest of my branches. No clogging after that. The chipper works well except that if you have a very long branch that is close to the 3" limit, the chipper can bog down as it cuts. The motor slows and can stall. You can avoid this by cutting very long branches or snatch the branch back very carefully to allow the motor to get back up to speed. That is risky and really not recommended. But after using it for a short time, I learned the best way to handle the branches and nothing can stop me now. Except for a 4" branch. ... show more

  • Good chipper for the price
Overall the quality seems better than I would expect from an unknown brand exclusively sold on Amazon. I was skeptical about this purchase and was debating spending more money for a different brand. So far, I am glad I saved my money and got this unit. Here is review from receipt of the unit to the first few uses. 1. The delivery was as expected and the box was left on my front porch. The packaging was done well. The outside of the box showed signs of being handled. The unit inside is packed securely and showed no signs of transit. 2. Assembly was not too difficult. Some design changes should be in order to allow for use of power tools. The instructions were easy to follow. The biggest issue I had was not having the correct motor oil on hand. The manufacturer should post that weight on the website so it can be purchased ahead of time. 3. The operation is decent. Chipping little branches is fast. Shredding is not wonderful though. Chipping is good for branches under 2". I tried to feed branches up to 3" and the machine shut down. I had to restart a few times to get through a 6' branch of this diameter. Smaller branches feed through easily. The shredding is not too good. Vines and grasses wrap around the wheel and do not get chewed up very well. Viney material or sapling branches do not self feed and the rubber guard prevents items from falling down the chute. Start up is easy. Choke and pull and it starts easily. The noise is not as loud as I expected. Ear plugs are still required though. Overall I am pleased with this purchase. ... show more

  • Great little chipper for yard work
Used this chipper now for 2 years. As the wife is big gardener the mulch is much needed. It handles pretty much anything I feed it up to about 2" of hard wood but that is to be expected. Can use without the bag if you don't care where the chips go as this is so powerful the material sprays pretty far. Using the bag allows you to put it right where you want it. Was easy for me to assemble but I am pretty handy. You are supposed to sharpen the branch blades periodically and I can do that but requires some disassembly. Had to deal with an issue and Paul with customer service was fantastic. PROS - Easy start every time, even after sitting through the winter - Enough power to chew through most everything, though had some difficulty with larger diameter aged oak, but that is to be expected. - Large gas tank so runs for as long as I can. - Large tires make it easy to move around the yard. - Great customer service CONS - Bolts holding bag on are not user friendly (went to hardware store and replaced with plastic head thumb screws. easy fix) Recommend for anyone who needs a step above the cheap, low power garden waste shredders. This has the power to handle branches and other garden waste making great mulch. UPDATE: Had a couple of broken parts, mostly my own fault for not stopping and taking it apart when it started to make a funny noise. Contacted customer support and Paul was able to get me some parts in just a week. Installed the new blades, put it back together and it started up first pull. Note: you should check the blades and the hammers periodically after a lot of use. ... show more

  • EASY TO USE AND WORKS GREAT
I purchased this shredder a few weeks ago and have used several times. So far it has worked wonderful and has shredded a big pile of tree branches into fine wood chips. I like it for several reasons. First, it is easy to assemble and the instruction is decent. It took me about 45 minutes to put everything together including the reading time. The shredder is very easy to start and every time just needs a single pull. Second, it is very powerful compared to other chippers in the same class. I have tried 2.5 inches branches and have had no issues at all. It is sturdy but not too heavy, so I can move it around my backyard easily. When I was shopping for a shredder, I was also looking at other options online, but I am very happy I made a decision to buy this one. A few things I have noticed and would like to share. There were some questions/concerns about the engine oil. I used 10W-30 and it has been working well. I added about 0.5 litter of oil initially. In fact, if you leave the machine on a flat ground, you can not over fill, as oil will start to come out from the filing hole once it is over 0.5 litter. I used a funnel to add oil and it made the job very easy. Additionally, I found the instruction in the package was very helpful. This is especially true for how to operate the engine. Also, there is youtube video that shows how to assemble the machine. Once you know how to start the engine, using it is a piece of cake. Overall I feel this is a quality shredder and is very easy to operate. With a 2-year manufacture warranty and good maintenance, I feel this baby will last for a while. ... show more

  • Badly designed machine. Poor material quality. Poor customer support. It breaks very often. Badly designed machine. Poor material quality. Poor customer support. It breaks very often.
A machine that works great for few hours before it started breaking down: 1: flailing blades rotor screws snap and break 2 broke after 4 hours of use 2: the rotor assembly is affixed to the aluminum engine cylinder cover with 4 weak stainless steel screws. The whole rotor assembly becomes loose after few hours of use. Screws got stripped from their sockets . 4: rotor blades cannot be sharpened without taking the whole rotor assembly out. Very annoying . 5: branch chute split up as is shown in picture. 6: as if the product is not bad enough, customer service is even worth. I’ve spent few months trying to get parts and it was impossible to get any parts for the engine. UN-Great circle usa operating manual does not even have a part list for the alpha works engine. Out of frustration I bought a new engine to replace it on the chipper because I could not affix the rotor assembly to the original new engine and it turned out to have 5/16 shaft rather than the 1 inch shaft that is needed. If you want a machine that works for few hours and than throw away, Landworks, great Circle, Alpha works and all similar equipment and products are saturating Amazon. By the way Amazon offer 30 days return on some products and most high value equipment may not be eligible for return. You may not use the equipment before the return time expire. Do not buy these products as you will be buying yourself a big headache and an endless frustration. ... show more

  • Product works better than expected! Excellent - Fast and Secure Delivery! This is the one you want!!
I must be the luckiest person to have bought one of these that is Flawless or everyone with a negative review is doing something wrong? Delivered by 2 young men who were very careful bringing it to my home. Everything was perfect in the Box. Assembly took about an hour and I quite enjoyed the process. Everything fit together nicely and the quality of everything felt very Sturdy! Put in some Oil and Gas and it started right up! Operation - Worked Great! The front Loaded in large limbs with ease and makes short work of small branches. As far as negative reviews, there has been a lot of negative reactions on here - suggesting the Top Loader was Useless?? Are they Kidding? Or do they just not know how to use it? I had a Truckload of Blackberry bushes and Twigs, Sticks, Vines and so on that was too complicated for the front loader so I shoved it all into the Top Hopper and it worked Flawless! In Fact - I ended up using the Top Loader for the Majority of the time! Even with Large Limbs it worked great! Oblong 3ish inch limbs that aren't straight don't feed right in the front but can be manipulated on the Top Loader! It worked so good! How are people having problems?? Overall, I love this thing - works great, solid build and makes short work of your Yard Waste. If you're on the fence of which one to get, it's gotta be this one!! ... show more

  • Works pretty well. Comes with a 18" by 30" bag that is really too small.
Assembly was easy, filling with oil was a little tricky (Of my many funnels, one could do it) but the engine started on the VERY first pull - so awesome! Since the tank was empty I was figuring it would take some pulls just to draw fuel in, but it fired up right away. Obviously, do read the manual for the engine to understand how the throttle, choke, fuel cut-off and engine cutoffs work. The chipper does a good job on limbs it is sized for, but understand the limbs need to be straight, without any forks or anything else that will cause them to jam in the chute. Unjamming is a pain. The shredder does a good but not great job on my live oak leaves - some pass through more or less untouched. I'm still looking for a great solution for live oak leaves, as the adjustable-intake string shredders that are available do an excellent job if the intake is made narrow enough, almost converting them to powder, but the leaves are so tough one needs to replace the string pretty often. The shredder also does a good job on fibrous garden waste, but one needs to be careful not to feed too much in at once or it will jam in the chute. The engine has a lot of power and the chutes are wide enough to easily take an arm, so unjamming the chipper or shredder while running is too terrifying for me. Early on it was jamming one way or another a lot but after some use, I learned what will cause a jam and generally was able to avoid those situations. But the bag that is provided is just way too small - it fills quickly, meaning shutting down the engine, emptying the bag, and restarting, interrupting overall workflow. There is a bigger bag 24" by 48" that a buyer will want to get right away - factor that into the purchase decision as it is over $50. Also the bag attachment, with thumb screws, is not well thought out. An elastic over hooks would be much more ergonomic and interrupt workflow less. I have the optional leaf vacuum on order but it hasn't arrived yet, so no experience with that.. So overall, looks like pretty good value for the money, but definitely with some quirks that need to be dealt with. ... show more

  • Well designed, highly functional tool
This is a fantastic tool if you have the need for it. The 3" limit is a serious limit, but going much bigger gets much much more expensive. This level is big enough to be useful: it handles a bunch of the medium sized 'junk'. If a larger one is needed on occasion, you're likely better off renting a much bigger one every so often. Share the rental with a neighbor and it won't cost all that much. This is a chipper so by the nature of it's work, it does require maintenance. One of the chipper blade bolts sheared off on mine after ~2 years. (Kind of odd to see wood go in and metal come out! ) They did a *fantastic* job of designing this thing for easy disassembly and access. (Honestly, somebody deserves a big raise Great Circle.) The whole back side comes off with 6 or 7 bolts which are easy to access with basic tools. Tip: leave the top chute+handle on, and you can use the handle to remove/carry the output side (plus save the effort or removing/reinstalling it.) 3 bolts for the input chute. That's enough to get the tools in to remove and replace the blades, which is going to be the most common operation. Literally less than 5 minutes to get great access to the business side. The nature of the beast is that the bolts 1/2 inch from the cutting edge get sap and crap in the hex indent, and that can be a job to clean out, but there is no designing around that. Any sort of protective cover would be gone at soon as the first branch goes in. I did not buy the vacuum attachment since I had that covered with other tools. If I find that kit for cheap I'd pick one up, in the hopes that it could be extended to 20 or 30 (or more) feet and still work well given the larger motor and potential sucking power. (Note: I have to remove leaves in some areas or they'll smother the grass. The excess goes to my compost heaps. Otherwise, chipping leaves is generally not needed, and if trashing the debris it's a negative for your lawn.) I have not had great luck with the top 'shred' function, but I didn't give it too much of a try. It's more work than tossing that junk into a large fire every so often, and I get a ton of small debris through the year. The main chipper is awesome. It's almost too good because it pulls in branches fast enough to stall itself so there is a bit of wrestling going on with branches closer to max size. You will want to keep the edge on the blades, but that makes the thing work better and pull harder, so it's a bit of a balance (ie. grind any damage out but don't go crazy.) This does create smaller chips that I was expecting, which means they decompose quicker also. I have far too much square footage in mulched areas, so it's a constant job. I was hoping to kill two birds with one stone with this device, but it's been a mixed bag on that score. Still worth it, and honestly it's fun to use. Admittedly, I enjoy using the axe(s), the machete, and the chainsaw also, so I might not be a good measuring stick as to what is "fun." Note that the "newer version" that Amazon has currently identified is a different model line. The longer exit chute should be a win, and the handles being further back seems like it would be easier to roll around, but this 2-way model is pretty easy. The wood appears to hit the rotor at a 90 degree angle, which is an entirely different design, so performance may be different. (That said, I've got 2 heavy duty consumer level LWs items and they both work great and seem to be very well designed.) You'd also lose the 3-way function, though as noted I haven't found those to be entirely useful. Landworks (Great Circle) support is great, at least for the one time I had to contact them. Put a coat of synthetic car wax on it before you use it, ideally before assembly to make it easier to get the tight spaces. This will make it much easier to keep pretty as you can just wipe it down and get most of the 'stuff' off. It is a good looking device (YMMV, but I personally like the color), and of course keeping it clean is good basic maintenance. Honestly, this thing is built like a tank so you'd have to really mistreat it for years to get it to rust through anyway, but 5 minutes to wax it every couple of years is still worth it. ... show more
