  • Water Heater Works Great!
I got this to use in my RV during the winter when I've "winterized" the camper and still want some warm or hot water. I especially wanted this to heat up water in my "portable" shower. The portable shower is basically a large black water bag with a USB-powered pump. The shower maker is suggesting this is a "solar" shower and that it will heat up the water in the bag easily if you leave it in the sun all day. Well, I've never tried that with this bag, but in the past I have only had mixed results with other solar showers. This heating device fits into the bag perfectly and just plugs in. It takes a lot of power (1,500 watts), so if you're in a RV I'm thinking you'll need to be plugged into shore power. The heater is pretty straightforward to work. Insert until it's completely covered with water and then plug it in. This does come with instructions printed on the package and on included inserts. At first I thought it was taking an especially long time to heat the water. That's because I was using the included digital thermometer. Having that digital thermometer was a nice touch from the company, but it didn't come with any sort of instructions. And really, none were needed. However, the digital readout would rise a couple of degrees and then drop two or three degrees..and then it would do that again and again. I'm not sure if that's because I didn't have the probe in the right place or if it was because I would bump the water bag and perhaps the probe moved enough to get to a cooler water spot. (I'm not sure if there's any such thing.) So after thinking the bag wasn't heating high enough, I got out my "meat thermometer" and stuck it in the water. It instantly showed me the water was way higher than the digital thermometer was showing - and based on that temperature (nearly 120 degrees F), I unplugged the heater and put my finger in the water. It was plenty hot for a nice hot shower. It took about 15 minutes in 2 1/2 gallons of tap water to reach that 120 plus degrees. It might have actually reached that a few minutes earlier...but I was not checking except on the included digital thermometer. That thermometer seems very accurate when out of the water when I compare to the readings on a thermometer placed in the same location. It's only in the water that it seems out of touch with what was really going on in the water. That could have been operator error, but again - no instructions came with the thermometer. It's kind of a "freebie" from Lakzoom. The company also included a little pad of something similar to "Brillo." Like the thermometer, I didn't see any notice of what it is to be used for. I'm assuming it's to clean the heater if it gets a buildup of scale or something. This again seems to be an "extra bonus" from the company, so I guess they figure they don't need to explain it. So, forgetting about the little "Brillo-type" pad and the digital thermometer, I'm very pleased with how well the actual water heating rod works. It will definitely do the trick for me. ... show more

  • It works... surprisingly well.
I've pondered how I could keep the small inflatable pool that I got for my little ones, and how I could maintain a hot bath, or even the small foot tub... and well, this is my answer. Out of the box you get the heater, a digital thermometer, and a scrubbing pad. The instructions have a LOT of warnings and warnings. Clearly this company doesn't want to get sued, and as long as you follow the warnings, you should be okay. For my test I filled my tub with cold water and once I turned my faucet off, I plugged in the heater and let it sit. I saw bubbles coming from the heater letting me know it was working. After about 10 minutes the water around the heater was considerably warmer/hotter than it was before. (Keep in mind that I unplugged the heater and removed it from the tub before placing my hand into the tub...) The digital thermometer is a nice bonus which lets you see how hot the water is before getting in. It works well. I didn't think it could work as fast or effectively, but it did. ... show more

  • Hot Water While Camping
Review for: Lakkzoom Portable Immersion Water Heater,Electric Pool Water Heater for Above Ground Pool Bathtub,Anti-scalding Bucket Heater Camping Water Heater Heat 5 Gallons of Water in Minutes(Yellow) Tested this out last night in a 3 gallon insulated water jug. It heated water to far too hot to wash with in just a few minutes. We use this jug for warm water while camping, heating however we can, stove, from home, etc. Now when camping at a site with electricity we can heat water on demand! This will be so nice this next week when camping in a Wisconsin State Park. Cool weather means we would like warm water to wash hands and face. We have a small, simple pop up camper, no water inside. Our washing jug sits on a table just outside the door. Yes, the item is just a bit scary. I would not allow a child near it when in use, or any time for that matter. The warnings to not touch the water while heating is a bit concerning. They could include a GFI breaker in the cord to help eliminate the shock hazard, but that would cost a few more dollars. I tested it with a multi-meter while heating and did not see any electrical leakage. Just the same, I would not trust it. I did notice that water was able to leak into the space where the electrical cable enters the heater. That does appear to be as designed since the water will drain out of that space when the heater is removed from the water by holding the cord. Going to give it a real life test this week. If there are problems I will update this review. No update does not necessarily mean that I did not make it back from the camping trip... EDIT: Hot water for hand and other washing while camping! See photo. We really like that we can have a jug of hot/warm water for handwashing any time we want while camping in freezing weather. I have been heating water in the morning and just before bed, warm water whenever needed. Using for rinsing dishes before a real wash is a nice convenience. - Using the same 3 gallon jug that the heater was tested in, plus an old bubble type windshield sun protector for additional insulation since it has been about 30 degrees and quite windy. EDIT: Be careful! If you do not watch the temperature you can get some very hot water. Walk away for a time and you may have full boiling water, like we did... Needs a thermostat. ... show more

  • Not so fast
This heater worked fine in a 5 gallon bucket and it did heat the water in "minutes": it went from 62 fahrenheit to 101 in 27 minutes. That is to say it heated roughly 2 degrees per minute. Since I am not in a hurry usually, this works fine. The included thermometer seems quite accurate.
