I purchased the 150,000 BTU natural gas unit on sale in late May. I installed the unit with my friend that is a licensed NYS electrician. The install was quite easy. I actually fired it up in minutes once we completed the installation. My pool holds 20,000 gals of water, the actual water Temperature at start up was 74 degrees. I ran the pool pump & Heater from 11:30 PM To 6:00 AM. In the 7 hours time the pool Temperature Rose from 74 degrees to 92 degrees, that is a rise of 18 degrees in 7 hrs. The ambient outside Temperature was 63 degrees, I did NOT use my solar pool cover for this test. This LITTLE hayward heater is a DYNOMO. For the past 7 years I had a 110k electric heat pump and it to 5 days to reach the above temperatures. I purchased it on Amazon for $4195 Biggest WASTE OF MONEY in the north east. I made the switch for the above reasons and MOST OF ALL MY ELECTRIC BILL was $810 a MONTH with that Stupid heat pump. I even called my electric company and spoke to the Director of Engineering which is my equivalent and he agreed heat pumps are NOT as economical as alot of the so called experts say. Phenomenal heater. Almost gave it Four stars for not aligning pipe sizing for gas OR water, but if you can't change that easily then you shouldn't be buying it and installing it yourself

I bought Hayward 150,,000 btu pool heater for my above ground pool 13,500 gallon . I installed the heater according to installation instructions and local codes. The heater worked for 4 hours and would start again the error code was LO . The company I purchased the heater from was In the swim which is owned by Dohenys Enterprises . The seller agreed to pick up the heater and they did on 7/2/25 and I’ve contacted in the swim twice last week through Amazon messaging and I still haven’t received a refund yet. Before I sent the heater back I contacted Hayward warranty service and all they did is give me the name of 2 companies that could fix my heater. 1 company said they don’t service above ground pools and the other company said that my location was to far to service. I read the warranty and it only covers parts only and pool companies in my area charges $ 225.00 an hour plus parts. I think Hayward pool heaters are junk and I will never purchase a Hayward pool heater again. Today I called Amazon customer service and they will issue a refund in 7-10 business days only because I used my Amazon prime Visa card. ... show more

Unit had an AO reading as soon as it was installed, faulty blower switch . Hayward ‘s warranty techs were booked 2-3 months out. This company did not step in to help, they tried to pass bill onto Delivery company . I ended up paying my own tech 250.00 to repair brand new unit instead of 150 to uninstall to return and 350 more to put in new unit. Unethical sellers , no help from Amazon here either. installed it last week, took a bit of work to figure out fittings required for the inflow and outflow lines and if you are running off 110 you need to make sure to swap the 240 plug for the 110. but the pool is warm and the heater hasn't had any errors yet

I installed myself. This is not difficult but it is a bit tedious. Run power (240), redo plumbing to pool (not hard) and connect gas line. This is an easy system to access and its operation is quite easy. I love that there is NO pilot light!
