🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The Raypak heat pump receives mostly positive feedback for its heating efficiency, with users experiencing significant temperature increases in their pools in short times. Installation feedback varies, with some users finding it straightforward and others encountering difficulties, particularly with the electrical hookup costs and setup documentation. The unit's quiet operation is praised, though there are concerns about internal features and compatibility with additional pool equipment.

Pros

  • 🌡️ Quickly heats up pools to desired temperature
  • 🤫 Super quiet operation
  • 🔌 Some users found easy installation and setup
  • 🔒 Manufacturers' support in part replacement when needed

Cons

  • 💼 Electrical hookup can be expensive
  • 📘 Setup documentation lacks clarity
  • 🛠️ Compatibility issues with other pool equipment
  • 🚧 Some installation challenges reported

Should I Buy It?

If you're looking for a pool heat pump that can heat your pool water quickly and operates quietly, this could be a great option. However, be prepared for potentially high installation costs and carefully consider the compatibility with your current pool setup. If you're comfortable handling potential setup hurdles, the product has a good track record of performance. Consulting a professional for installation might be advisable to mitigate these issues.

  • Easy install, super fast pool heat up to temp
Size: 140K BTU
The media could not be loaded. This is a big unit - maybe bigger than a clothes drier! You may need equipment to put it in place. Find a location so the the in and out water lines are a straight shot. 220v - the wire is pricey +- $600. I put a disconnect on the house then ran an SOOW cord to the heater so I can unplug in the winter time. I’m in Maine. When installed the 18x36 pool was 68 and in 1 day it was 82!!! I use a solar blanket so not to lose pool heat at night. The unit is super quiet. I should have done this years ago. ... show more

Size: 140K BTU

  • Very huge with a pretty high cost for electrical hookup
Size: 140K BTU
I only had this unit for a couple of months when the weather was already pretty hot so I really can't comment on its efficiency or warming power. As the month of September approaches I should be able to comment on these qualities. The electrical hook up in the Northeast cost me 5500 which included an Amp Service upgrade to 200 AMP. The documentation is really not too clear in the overall setup. The unit continued to run after my pump shut off. The manual did not help. Upon web research one person mentioned a flow switch in the unit which, I believe, comes set for an inground pool where the pool surface water is lower than the input and output of the heater. Since I have an above ground pool the surface level was higher than the heaters in/out causing the small low flow into the heater to think that there was flow. This flow switch/valve is located in the panel on the left close to the bottom. There is a locking mechanism that prohibits the spinning of the flow switch to make it less sensitive. Once I figured out how to unlock the adjustment I spun it to the higher value and replaced the lock. Now the unit goes on and off based on the pump being on! Hope this helps ... show more

  • Great unit just don't buy from In The Swim Pool Supplies they are a joke to deal with.
Size: 140K BTU
Heat pump is awesome. Just got it going after a month of delay due to the seller In The Swim Pool Supplies a horrible third party. Raypak stood behind their name and sent us the parts to get it going. We have it installed in a 15,000 gallon in ground and it's heating about 1.5 degrees per min. Can't wait to jump in tomorrow. Thank you Raypak!!! Customer service has been superb!!! ... show more

  • Raypak does not transfer warranty
Size: 140K BTU
This is a wonderful heater, when it works. We purchased a home that had the 8450 model installed 2 years prior. It developed a low pressure trip alarm about 2 months after we began using it. We had an HVAC company top up the refrigerant to specs assuming it was a one off issue. It ran fine for about 2 weeks, and then had another low pressure trip error. All the coolant had leaked back out. We called Raypak, as it was under warranty, which they confirmed. They asked for my name, which I gave them, and then told me that it wasn't covered as I was not the original purchaser. This is an item that a pool company professionally installed (which Raypak was able to see) on a concrete slab that hadn't been moved. They wouldn't even offer a discount of any type to help out with the issue. It's interesting that every other new item in the home had a transferable warranty: AC, Range, Hot Water heater, etc. Heck, even automakers provide transferable warranties and their products travel down a freeway at 70+ MPH. Needless to say, I did not purchase another Raypak product. ... show more

  • Buyer Beware - Elimination of Bypass Feature means low water flow
Size: 103K BTU
First, these are tagged as Rudd now, not Raypak. And the Internal Automatic Internal Bypass that these are advertised as having - they NO LONGER have this feature. This is very PROBLEMATIC, as the flow through this heater is only 30 - 60 GPM, vs 120 GPM for competitors models. Also, while it has 2" plumbing connections, the piping in the heater is only 1.5". Once my model 5450 was installed, my 1.5 HP pump pressure increased to 20 psi vs10 psi with my previous heat pump. On top of this, my Polaris Vac WILL NOT WORK with this heat pump - there is not enough water flow. BUYER Beware - you will incur additional cost to bypass this heater. ... show more
