I am fascinated by the science and history behind the super precise atomic clocks that are accurate to within one second every 300 million years. Having this La Crosse UltrAtomic that is synchronized with the WWVB in Fort Collins appeals to my appreciation of scientific principles. I have other La Crosse products that have been high quality and this clock is no less than what I have come to expect from that company. When I set my desired time zone and DST option I inserted the batteries and the clock immediately advanced to the default 4 O'Clock position and within 20 minutes had received the WWVB signal and proceeded to the correct time, I compared the sweep second hand to my computers clock which is also synced through the internet to the atomic clock and the both the clocks advanced each minute to the second at precisely the same time. I opted for the La Crosse clock with C batteries and eco mode switch to give me a 5 year battery life before having to change batteries......I am very Happy with this La Crosse UltrAtomic clock and I also like it's stylish modern sleek look. ... show more

    • Acquires signal super quick, accurate to the second, and easy to read!

I purchased this huge wall clock for my elderly parents, who needed a way to tell time outside of looking on their phones. Once the clock arrived, I read through the manual, which took like 20 seconds max, and adjusted the settings on the back of the item (e.g. time zone switch and DST switch). You can adjust other settings like turning on/off Eco Mode and a few other things, but I left that off. All these adjustments are made on the same small panel on the back of the clock. Very easy. Then, I insert the four C batteries and the clock worked as instructed in the manual (e.g. clock goes to 4pm and stays there while trying to acquire signal). The real test was how quick a signal could be acquired in my old residential home that has all types of furniture and knick knacks everywhere. I was anticipating maybe 24 hours. Lo and behold, less than ten minutes later, the clock picks up a signal and moves itself to the correct time. I double checked the accuracy by comparing to my phone, and the clock is accurate to the second. So works great! Cannot attest to the longevity of this device but seems solidly built as long as you're not throwing around everywhere. Recommended! ... show more

It worked almost immediately, setting the correct time! The “Eco” mode also worked as documented, with the “second hand” stopping at “12”, for 6 hours each day (11PM to 5AM). This will supposedly make 4 C cells last for 5 years, but you can also use only 2 C cells, if you wish a lighter clock, or if you only have 2 C cells handy. In case you’re wondering (speaking of “light weight”), the “plastic” (probably polycarbonate …?) is PERFECTLY CLEAR and the clock “hands”, which are PERFECTLY SHAPED, therefore, show PERFECTLY CLEARLY! I especially liked the fact that ALL the settings were available AND CLEARLY MARKED, as switches (on the back, of course)! There were no “press this while you press that” controls that you can never remember. The only exception to this is if you need a time zone outside of North America. This, itself, is VERY EASY to set to ANY time zone, ANYWHERE AROUND THE WORLD (24, or perhaps some other number, depending on how it all works). There was even a “Pause” switch, to stop the clock, in case you wanted to leave batteries in the clock while shipping! This could also be used as a way to “check the clock”, by moving the switch from the “correct time zone”, to “pause”, and then back again. This is the ONLY thing that I wish it had: a way to tell if the clock had correctly received the time signal. I was going to knock off a star for that, but decided it was NOT that big of a deal! ... show more

Updated review. I initially ordered the 404-1235UA-PL, but I didn't like the plastic lens. I noticed slight imperfections like a wavy surface. To be honest, most people will not notice it but I did and decided to return it and get the 404-1235UA-SS instead. The 404-1235UA-SS has a glass lens so it didn't have the same imperfections. With the exception of the lens, both models were practically identical. The Good. The UltraAtomic is able to find a signal during the time of day my other atomic clocks couldn't. But your results may vary depending on your location. Time is always accurate. And with C batteries, the clock should run for years without the need to replace the batteries. The bad. This is not a silent sweeping clock. The ticking isn't obnoxiously loud but it isn't exactly quiet either. On a scale from 1 to 10, I would have to give it a 3.5 for ticking loudness. And lastly the one thing I don't like is how small the numbers are for a 14 inch clock. I wish they were bigger and darker (bolder). I can barely make out the numbers from 25 feet. In addition, the small thin numbers makes the clock look kinda ugly, but that's subjective. Is it worth it? Yes. It's a good clock. ... show more
