Just used the 5CB Medium Chestnut Brown last night and it’s not exactly the color I wanted but I knew the risk I was taking going in and I don’t hate it. The formula for this is runny and does drip, so watch out for those white counters and rugs. The color result is redder than I wanted but the box does indicate it can pull red for redheads so that’s on me, I should’ve gone for a fully cool toned brown. Perhaps this was due more to the quality of my sun bleached hair and general dryness, but it was striking during application how much my hair texture became like straw. I expected to follow up with my usual hair repair methods (Amika RX) but to my surprise, the provided conditioner more than restored the texture to a soft state. Attached some pictures with side by sides, befores on the left. I think I’ll prefer the color in a week or two when it inevitably fades a shade. I have a handful of grays toward the crown and this fully covered those, however, I can’t yet attest to longevity of the coverage. **Update** I used and reviewed this dye in October, it is now December and I have added an additional update picture (roughly 2.5 to 3 months after application). I was correct that the faded shade is what I’m most happy with, especially once the ends lightened up, which happened probably by week 3 or 4. Gray coverage is excellent though my growth seems to already be showing so I’m spotting silvers again. Red tone is lasting very well and I’m happy, just gotta find some sort of root touch up now. Overall a recommend for the lasting color, but I will mention that my hair is much much dryer over the last couple months than usual - I feel my hair usually “bounces back” after a dye (I tend to dye my hair once or twice a year only) and after this box it did not. So if your hair is chemically treated or severely damaged, I would look for a potentially gentler dye formula if there is such a thing. I am using deep conditioner treatments or a quality conditioner in the shower, but what seems to help most is a post shower cocktail: light spritz of Pacifica Silk Rice detangle spray, dime sized amount of JVN instant repair mask, a pump and a half of JVN blowout styling milk, and then the next day or morning 3-4 drops of the JVN nourishing shine drops (I also use Ouai hair oil but I’ve run out - and occasionally IGK mistress hydrating balm on the ends and before I ran out I’d frequently use the IGK Antisocial overnight dry mask which I can’t recommend enough lol) Best of luck to everyone on their hair journey :) ... show more

Scent is a big deal in hair color. L'Oreal is listening to customers, because they've continued to make the scent of the color mix more and more mild, and blessedly, they got rid of the argan oil scent that used to be in the tube of conditioner. Now conditioner is VERY nice scent. This color also deserves a shout-out. I wanted to "blend in" my gray on my dark brown hair, and nothing was working. This does such a good job and looks so nice that I'm not having to color so often. L'Oreal simply does a good job overall. ... show more

I’ve been using this product for a couple years… It’s super easy to use… I like how it actually lightens some of my hair ~ while toning some of the lighter hair… It has never turned brassy orange … I like that it allows for varying shades of color ~ unlike salons where it’s all one color…. Just my preference… I get compliments on my color all the time… It works for me! ... show more

This is very easy to use. It is a beautiful color, not at all brassy. I just wish it stayed as brilliant after a few washes. It is still a pretty color, just not as vivid as it was at first.

I have been coloring my hair and also going to salons at rimes for 40 years. When I say salons, I mean some of the best salons in Manhattan-because my career was once very appearance oriented. I paid thousands. I got great haircuts but never great blonde-never. I know I have resistant pigment (which is crazy because my natural color was never darker than a level 5). I also have crazy red orange tones when lightening. I just got tired of spending thousands so I taught myself how to do pro color. Lots of burning and severe itching from the bleach but I learned to achieve pretty impressive results. Eventually, home hair color improved and I sometimes did that but never got a blonde that wasn’t yellow or awful. Based on another woman’s review with experiences similar to mine-I decided to give this a try and whoa, this is my holy grail. Zero itching or burning lime pro color and a GORGEOUS believable blonde on me!!!!!!! I would like to thank the people at L’Oreal and the lady reviewer who led me here. No more haircolor disasters for me. My mother said: “Who did that gorgeous blonde on you?” And when I told her box color she went nuts. If L”Oreal ever discontinued this I am going there with a megaphone and glue myself to the corporate headquarters in protest like a lunatic. Lol!!!! ... show more

I left it on twice twice as long as recommended, during a late night application. And I didn’t sleep well I guess all of the chemicals seeped into my brain and I had some very disturbing dreams, so I think I was just a tad bit ill from the PPD. It was just a shade darker than I had hoped for, so maybe next time I’ll go with the lighter color. And there was only of hint of reddish orange tones, but barely even noticeable. ... show more
