This is pretty much the only hair lightening kit I'll use. I have fine, straight, dark hair and this gets it to a beautiful pearl white shade. I will admit to using purple shampoo as a toner along with their conditioner, but nothing else has gotten my hair to the right color with as little damage as this does. It's really easy to use the kit as long as you follow the instructions, and it comes with a pair of gloves (though I use my own nitrile gloves). Everything you need is there. If you have longer hair, you're going to need quite a bit of this stuff. To get my desired lift, I use one whole bottle on my hair, then do a second round using another whole bottle. It does have that bleach smell- so if that bothers, you, you may want to look into alternative lightening options. But if you're going for that really clean platinum look- this stuff works without destroying your hair.

I’m unemployed, the salons are closed, and this product and my experience with are a major bright spot in my year. I used to get my hair done almost platinum with platinum highlights at the salon so I feel like I sort of have experience watching the right way to do blonde and knowing what “good” (and by “good” I mean “not cheap“ and expertly applied) blonde should look like when it’s done. Check out my review and tips below. Section your hair evenly before you begin. Start with dry hair. Wear the gloves. I used a dye bowl and brush to apply. The smell wasn’t bad, in my opinion. Yes, it’s hair bleach (it promises 7 levels of lift, which a stylist would probably tell you is not actually realistic for one application—but yes, this kit is bleach, dunno why other reviewers are surprised by that). Anyway, I even forgot to add the Step 3 liquid (twice) and it still worked. Apply it slowly and carefully. Buy two boxes so you will get enough coverage and enough lightening. If you have dark hair, orange is a normal outcome—you just need to use more and to do this more than once. Apply in two (or more, if needed) rounds so you don’t have the product on your hair for more than 60 minutes at a time. Keep it moist while it cures (put plastic on your head), because it will stop working when it dries out. Don’t be surprised by any orange tones, they don’t mean it didn’t work, they mean your hair is too dark to go platinum in one treatment. The conditioner included smells like roses and makes your hair soft but doesn’t have enough color in it to really help brassiness. Buy a good purple or blue conditioner to counteract any yellow or orange tones (my stylist uses Shimmer Lights, so I do, too, and I mix it with a 3-minute conditioner to get the shade I like). Overall, this worked well for me and I am one happy quarantined blonde. If you’re not super familiar with doing your own hair blonde, watch some YouTube videos before you start so you don’t make mistakes that are easily avoided. It’s hard to do your hair yourself and have it come out perfect but now at least seeing my own reflection is a joy again and anything I may have messed up can be fixed in the salon someday if needed. Highly recommend.

There's no odor and it works well. It takes two applications, (about a week apart), to fully transform my beard for Christmas.

I have ash dark brown hair. It does take the full 30 minutes to achieve the desired results. It’s a 3 part mix with the bleach packet and gel. I’d prefer a 2 part mix. I find the bleach packet a little challenging to get all into the mixer. The black ink label on the bottle tends to transfer during coloring to hands and skin. As this is a bleach it’s not particularly problematic. Understand the result can be essentially clear with little to no yellow or flaxen. It really has an extremely neutral scent as there is no ammonia. You may experience some mild burning which usually disipates during processing. My hair is past shoulder length and sometimes I don’t have enough for my full head although I like to be generous. I always keep a second bottle on hand in case needed. Of note is that despite the 7 levels the product offers I have not experienced damaged hair. Don’t get me wrong you still can expect lift and some coarseness but damage is minimal. I would recommend, these are the best results I’ve experienced with an off the shelf product.

I didn’t end up platinum, but I’m not mad about it. I actually really love golden blonde and I think it looks best on me. But as a medium brown, a golden blonde barely lightens my hair. This took me right where I wanted to be. I used two boxes since my hair is long and thick. It was just enough. It looks incredibly natural with lots of variations. It’s better than the cut and color I paid $200 at a salon for a few years ago!

Good value for pack of two. I only use feria hair color for years. Was received with shrink wrap so no open containers inside to break and make a mess. This is my summer color and I go down two shades in winter. Love that I don't have to worry about orange toned hair. I try to take decent care of my hair as I have been coloring for 45 years at home in shades of blonde. I don't have breakage afterwards as I finger comb it first and slowly comb from starting at the ends. My natural color is dark brown. And is below my shoulders. One box is plenty for coverage especially when I use more near my sides to cover the gray I have. Don't leave it on longer than directions. Nice that I always have one ready to use, so no rush to a store to get another. Don't leave the conditioner in too long as you may get a greyish pieces of hair. Remember it really takes any brassy tones out. Feria has been my go to for hair coloring after not finding any other inexpensive hair color with no brassiness.

It works. Long-lasting. Always follow-up with future shampoos using purple shampoo and conditioner. Color can be brassy, otherwise. Gee, I sound like a L'Oreal ad.

Makes hair yellow. I had dirty blonde hair and now it's light yellow. I buy this product all the time, it's easy to use but I've never achieved "platinum" from it...best it gets is light yellow.
