I absolutely love this shade. I have been using it for years and it's the only copper tone I will ever use! It stays in my hair for an extremely long time considering it's in the red family and the fade out. Looks very nice in every stage. I go a long time between dying my hair so I rock the root look for a while. I only bleach My roots at the very top of my head so I get a nice ombre look between bleaching the roots and putting the red back in. I usually wait about 4 to 5 days after bleaching so my scalp and my hair has a little bit of a break between chemicals being thrown on them. The photos I uploaded go from freshly being dyed all the way down to decently long routes and end with roots being bleached to start the whole process again. I do not use any special shampoos. I do not use any touch ups or color depositing conditioners. I do not tone my roots. When I bleach them, I leave that natural coppery tone in my hair after bleaching. ... show more

I used R48 Red Velvet on natural medium-brown hair that had not been dyed before and the initial effect after dyeing was that it was much darker than before (but this lightened back to medium after a few washes) but the red color is brilliant and attractive. It has a slightly blue sheen undertone on brown hair which is a gorgeous contrast to the red color. It's very lovely in natural light, but it can be hard to see indoors depending on the lighting. I have seen some reviews voice concern about how dark it looks after dyeing but it will lighten up and just show the color after a few washes, so fear not if you don't like that! Another positive aspect of this dye is that it's very easy to clean up off of countertops and the tub. It will lift very easily with only cleaning vinegar. I was pleasantly surprised. Hit or miss with this one. The Cool Amethyst is my favorite color- I’ve been using it for about 5 years now. I’ve noticed that if it mixes up a pale yellow color initially, it doesn’t dye my hair. I then have to buy another box & try again in 3 days. If it mixes to a darker yellow initially, it does a great job. Idk if people are selling old bottles or what. This dye has jumped from $9 to almost $16 in the past year, so taking a chance that it won’t do the job isn’t acceptable. I already have to recolor every 3 weeks or so. This did exactly what I hoped, just darkened it a bit to what I would call a light bronze, sort of auburn but not too dark and not too red. Looks natural and covered my grey completely. Really shiny and healthy looking. I followed the directions exactly and left it on for 25 minutes. It cost a few dollars more but that doesn’t matter at all when you can get it right the first time.
