Unlike many boxed hair colors, Loreal in the pink box works the best for me. It's made for gray hair so it doesn't wash out easily but it does lighten a bit over time. I color my short hair every 4-5 weeks. Frequently my local department store sells out of my color, so I buy 2-packs online and I don't worry about running out. A 2-pack cost 1/5th of the price I used to pay at the salon.

I had a VERY hard time trying to get back to my natural hair color, I wanted something that came in the mail quickly, long lasting, and had a great color match. I was debating between L’oreal and Schartzkopf and came to pick L’oreal since they had a great color match. I was hoping the most that this brand wouldn’t wash out and matched the closest to my natural hair color. I had to get 2 boxes since I have very thick hair and the shampoo and conditioner gave it a good look as well. I usually don’t mind the smell of hair dye, but for those who are wondering about the smell, it was very strong and it smelled mostly like chemicals. The fumes did stay in my bathroom after I cleaned up as well. The first photo is my hair BEFORE I dyed it, it had orange in it and my goal was to get rid of it. The second photo is my hair AFTER using the dye. The color didn’t look very ashy and exact as my natural, and it looked a little more redish, but it dried pretty well. The third photo is my dyed hair dried and styled, the photo after that is my hair a week later after a haircut. The color lightened a bit but I will be using Keracolor conditioner to get rid of the red and darken it. Other than that I am happy I was able to go to my natural hair without it washing out too much like what happened when I used Garnier. The only reason I docked off 1 star was because my hair turned a little redish and the shade match wasn’t very well.

I was disappointed that my usual pick of Loreal Preference would take over a week to arrive. I ordered Loreal Excellence instead. It arrived 2 days later. At first I was annoyed because after you color your hair and rinse it, you have to use the shampoo they provide, before you use their conditioner. With Loreal Preference, you rinse out the color, then apply the conditioner and rinse. I followed the directions. What other choice did I have? Totally worth it! The color is amazing! Covered all of my gray. Not only that, I went out with friends to a popular place for music. I felt like a celebrity! All eyes on me when I walked in! ( It was my hair). I wear it long and this color made it look fantastic! It felt amazing when women much younger than me came up to compliment me about my hair! I definitely prefer Excellence over Preference. I usually don't leave reviews but this color is still awesome after lots of shampoos! I'll be ordering it again...

Honestly, the hair color is good, and lasts a long time. The thing that irritated me is that in two separate boxes, the conditioner tube split along the whole side, making a huge mess and rendering the conditioner hard to use and wasting a lot of it. I've never had that happen before, and I just bought another box at the drug store, and the conditioner tube was actually a different color, and did not split. It's not like the price is so much better here, so I might just stick to my local drugstore going forward....
