  • Boy, Is This Shade Hard to Find
I love this strawberry blond shade, but is it ever difficult to find! I don’t know why L’Oreal decided to take it off the drug store shelf. I’ve used L’Oreal hair color for many years and have depended on it as a product that provides shine, improved hair manageability and, of course, shade options. Please, please bring this shade back for increased availability. ... show more

  • Best hair color for damaged and weak hair. Assists with growing out hair.
Color: 10N Very Light Natural Blonde
This hair color really spared and repaired my severely damaged ends. I use deep conditioners and leave-in conditioners to maintain the health of the hair shaft and ends that are damaged, as healthy hair grows out, after years of bad bleach jobs. I use Feria rebel pearl blonde at the newly grown dark, medium and light brown to lighten it as bleach does, but without bleaching damages. I then wash that out and wait a week to I use L'Oreal age perfect 10N very light neutral blonde to further lighten the root area and use 9N Light neutral Blonde to blend the color to the rest of the hair, giving it a natural blonde silver look and strengthen the hair ends. The reason why I would lighten first and then wait a week later after washing it out is that one should never mix and blend two different dye series together. Hair color of the same brand and series are ok to mix together to get the effect one wants, but never different series and brands together. Anyways, I succeed on maintaining my silver blonde color as it grows out healthy using this brand (L'Oreal) and series (Age Perfect). Age perfect 10N really helps to lighten my hi-lift hair further, yet 9N thickens the hair ends as darker color dyes do. I love this series! This is what I do... I first use Feria Rebel series color pearl blond to lighten my darker roots to a nice light blonde. After the hair was lightened, I wash out that dye, use a conditioner and then wait a week later. After, the week had passed, I then use Age Perfect 9N Light Neutral Blonde mixed with very little ash toner and ash protein filler at the ends first and wait ten minutes. After ten minutes, I then add Age Perfect 10N Very Light Neutral Blonde mixed with normal amount of ash toner and ash protein filler at the roots to lighten it further and wait another 30 minutes. Total time of coloring should be 40 minutes for full effect. After washing all of the dye paste out of hair, I then apply the deep conditioner that came with Age Perfect series. I leave it on for ten minutes for extra moisturizing treatment. I then wash that out of the hair. This helps to keep a silver blonde color longer, till the next hair coloring treatment. For me, it is once a month. Though with this hair color brand and series I could wait longer than before. I do coloring treatments one every two months due to this brand keeping color in the hair ends longer, keeping it thicker for longer time till next color treatment to maintain color as hair grows out so that I could cut out the damage ends to maintain a nice hair length. The texture of the cream is thick yet easy to spread through. Though I recommend to those with thick hair that is passed the shoulders to get three boxes. Two isn't enough to get desire effect of thicker healthier hair. I tend to saturate my hair in hair color to get the full effect and benefits from this series. The smell is ok. it's not as strong as other dyes that of other L'Oreal series, though it isn't a nice fragrance as the Garnier brand. The deep conditioner smell could be better, but acceptable as I use a leave-in conditioner to mask that deep conditioner smell. The deep conditioner doesn't feel thick, but acceptable and does the trick to moisturize the hair and seal the hair shaft to keep the color in. Overall, this is a far better dye for older hair than Clariols' series Age defy. When it comes to blondes, I trust L'Oreal more so than any other brands and this series (Age Perfect) is no exception. L'Oreal has out done itself with this series. I would also state that this series is highly recommended for severely damaged, weak, brittle hair, because it will thicken the shaft with the keratin molecules that are in the cream. It will not "cure" or completely undo the damage, but it will spare the hair ends from scissor happy hair stylists who are obsessed with making women bald. Seriously, what is up with these ladies' scissor obsession? Anyways this box dye is possibly the best one out there for weak, brittle, breakage hair. It will minimize the brittleness, minimize the breakage and minimize the clumps of hair falling out, factors for positive hair growth. ... show more

  • The color is excellent, but the ammonia odor... yikes!
Color: #5 Chestnut Brown
I bought this to even-out my roots when another coloring product didn't seem well-absorbed by my roots and recently dyed hair. This product worked okay. Not great, but my haircolor is more even. The dye is easy to use, but - oh my - the smell of the ammonia was horrendous. Even halfway through applying the color, I could barely see what I was doing. My eyes were watering that much. I'm pretty sure this product has been discontinued, and - if so - that's for a good reason. However, next time I color my hair, I'll spend more and use a product that's ammonia-free. My experience with this haircolor was enough to make me swear off all L'Oreal Excellence products for the foreseeable future. It improved the color of my roots so my hair is more even-toned and natural-looking, but that's all I can say in favor of this product. (My advice if you're in a similar situation: Spend more and get a top-quality product without ammonia.) ... show more

  • Love this haircolor - but you have to use it in a particular way.
This hair color works more like a glaze or even the way that a semi permanent hair color works except it's permanent. It doesn't seem to lift color, it only lays down color. I think that is why many people complain of it being too dark. But if you use it in the right way it is great! The trick, especially if you have less than 70% gray and up to medium brown hair, is to use a blonde so that your grays are highlighted and your natural color is only darkened a little bit. On my medium brown and gray hair the 8G Medium Soft Golden Blond works great. It doesn't look like that box at all because of all the darker hair that I have, but the finished result is exactly what I wanted - a kind of highlight/low light look. The transitions between tones is nice and the blonde highlights are sparkily. One tip that I think helped with the final result is that I first used Color Oops on my hair to remove as much of the old hair dye as possible to aid in my hair not turning too dark and also to get the nice highlights too. When you use Color Oops on medium brown hair that's been dyed, afterwards you end up with reddish hair from the previous lifting of color. But when you put this hair dye on afterwards, the red mellows out to a very nice golden blonde/brown. The bottom line - if you still have some of you natural color you will not get the super blondey blonde that's on the box because this hair color doesn't lift, but if you like the highlight/lowlight look, this can be achieved with this hair color. Just make sure you choose a blonde or you are likely to end up with much darker hair than you expected. ... show more

  • Color True To Box Color!
Color: 9G Light Soft Golden Blonde
First of all, the box states it is not recommended for those with dark hair. IMHO it probably would not take or color would be way different from expectations. Having said that, I have been coloring my dark blond hair from medium to light blond for years. It’s also very thin with lots of gray so I look for products gentle to my scalp yet able to cover gray. This turned out better than salon I spent $$!!! Originally I wanted to try the medium soft golden blond but was concerned it may turn out orange so took the chance and tried light golden blond. Now I have the confidence to try the medium golden blond! As long as the integrity of the product is not substituted with other cheaper chemicals and the price stay reasonable, this will remain my new go-to hair coloring. I love it! It means a lot to me to trust a product to work as designed and not have to spend hours looking and debating so many other products. You could it saves $$ and time especially compared to what you would spend at salons. ... show more
