  • Intex 1 1/4 owners do this first
Buy your hose from harbor freight. 24 foot roll 13 dollars . The heater comes with a 1 1/2 connector hose which is way to short. They give you a couple reducers to make their 11/2 hose hook up to 11/4 but it leaks. Hasn't warmed my pool yet it's a 12 foot by 30in deep. Hoping the 48 feet of hose will heat up too in the sun . When I got my package it had a hole in the box, their hose was cracked and looked like a returned item. Will let you know update when a couple hot days go by. Day 3 with 90+ sunny days. My 12 foot by 30 inch pool which is in the garage because thats the only level place, plus it keeps the kids from getting sunburn. The unit will work with the correct flow rate of water. My pump is 660 GPH which is way to fast for the water to heat up. I left the pump off for about 30 mins and the water did get warm but it only holds about 3 gallons. After the 3 gallons runs out I get cool water again. I'm going to try a small pump around 290 GPH to see if the slower flow rate helps. I think you will need 2 or 3 units hooked together to get constant warm water. I will try the small pump first and report back. ... show more

  • Above ground solar heater mixed results so far
So I built this manifold to make it easier to divert the water flow. I can route part or all of the flow through the heater. At this point I only have one of these solar heaters but today is bright and very sunny and I can feel an appreciable difference in the temperature of the water coming out of the return. Unfortunately one of the hoses it came with has a pinhole leak. If you can't tell from this photo I am not a fan of hoses to begin with. In any event I need to contact support for a replacement because that is not acceptable that it arrive with defective parts. Ultimately I could see picking up two more of these next season and extending the array of heaters, if this one shows measurable promise. ... show more

  • Great Value
The cons first. With my pool, this solar heater hose was a little short so I had to buy a cinder block to prop it up on so it wasn’t hanging. Not really a big deal just something to note. Also, the first time I hooked it all up fairly easily but there was leaks around the connections so I had to take it apart and reconnect it with the tape. Then it was good to go. My advice is to use the tape from the start. I will add, it not the most attractive thing, but honestly, neither are above ground pools in my opinion. The pros... IT WORKS! We live in NE Ohio so I was certain that we would not be able to get away with just one heater but I wanted to try with just one and I’ve been surprised at the temperature we’ve been able to maintain. Not bath water but certainly feels up to par with most inground pools with regular heaters. For such a great price you really can’t go wrong. I would certainly recommend this item to anyone who wants to take the chill off their above ground pool. ... show more

  • Get panels
It works a little but you would need several to heat the pool up enough to swim in it before June. I have 2 and have a 16×48 prism frame pool and they probably brought the pool temp up by 4 degrees if that. The main problem is the price. I paid $130 a piece for these. If they were $50 it would make more sense for the simple fact I would need 5-7 of these to make a difference in the pool temp. The only reason I got these was because all the reviews on the panels said they leaked but I bought 2 huge ones and as long as you hook them up properly they don't leak. Don't waste your money on these unless you're willing to spend several hundred dollars. Also I forgot to mention I live in Mississippi so take that into consideration. ... show more

  • Hoses are cheap, crack and leak. Domes seems to best up water though.
We have a permanent 30 x15 above-ground pool. We bought 4 of these (probably need 2 more.) It seems to work. The problem is the 4ft hoses that are included are of poor quality. Almost everyone has leaked. They get a few pin holes and water squirts out every where and the holes get worse. Today we noticed the water level had dropped a few inches and sure enough, major leak from a hose that had split. We are a going to have to spend more money on better quality hoses. It's disappointing to lose all that water. ... show more

The thing either has missing parts or doesn't come with everything you need to install it.

  • Need 3-4 of these for a decent sized pool 5-6k + gallons
Looks cool. One unit claims approximately 2000k worth of heating… would need to run 3-4 of these in series to be totally effective on a large pool… Let’s say these are $159 each x 4. A guy could easily build one himself for about $60 that would equal the btu’s of 3-4 of these
