It worked well for that, but I really started liking it when I was using the cast iron griddle on the indoor gas stove to make pancakes! Works well enough. Must hold very close (within a couple inches of banger) to get an accurate reading. The IR temperature sensor works like a flashlight beam, the closer you are, the more focused of a reading you’ll get. the farther away you are, the beam is spread wider and gives a less accurate reading. ... show more

    • Not sure if it's working right, maybe I replace the crappy batteries for brand name
I have 2 very good quality meat thermometers, that I know work well and are accurate. How do i know? because a 145-ish degree F reading gives me steak that's done, but with a little pink in the middle so it's not well done. So I used both my meat thermometers in conjunction with this, as my moka pot coffee maker brewed. I know from years of experience that the bottom pot is between 195 degrees and 205, that's where I keep it by feathering it on and off the heat on my glass top stove. I shot this thermometer at the bottom pot when my meat thermometer said it was the ideal temp and this thing said it was 70 degrees. Then 120. Then 40 (and yes I double checked that it was on farenheit). Umm no, not even close. I have not put better quality batteries in it yet, because I need to go buy some, but unless that fixes it, it's completely inaccurate crap. ... show more
