It has one job to do and it fails. Compared side-by-side with a Midwest Hearth thermometer that appears nearly identical to this one and a non-contact infrared thermometer. This one read 400 degrees while the other two about 320 degrees. Again, side-by-side on the flat top of my wood stove. Swapped location and the result was the same. If "hot" or "not hot" is all you want to know, this may be a good value for the price. ... show more

Magnet doesn't hold the unit in place. For a chimney thermometer it becomes pretty useless if it won't stay in place on the chimney.

Its a little on the small side compared to my old inaccurate guage but it looks really nice and has a magnet to stick to the pipe or you can use the hanger thats installed on it. Worth buying!
