Description

Kingston’s DataTraveler 2000 is designed to be secure, with an alphanumeric keypad that locks the drive with a word or number combination, for easy-to-use PIN protection. Its auto-lock feature is activated when the drive is removed from a device, and it deletes the encryption key after 10 failed intrusion attempts. It features hardwarebased, full disk AES 256-bit data encryption in XTS mode. Encryption is done on the drive, not on the host computer, and no trace of the PIN is left on the system, for an advanced level of security. DataTraveler 2000 is OS independent and can be used on any device with a USB 2.0 or USB 3.1 Gen 1 (USB 3.0) port. It’s compatible with Windows, Mac OS, Linux, Chrome OS, Android, thin clients and embedded systems, and the drive requires no software or drivers. Its durable design protects the drive from everyday elements such as water and dust.

  • Secure data stick
Size: 32GB
Works well. Easy to use. What more can I say?

  • What is your privacy worth to you?
Size: 64GB
I recently lost a USB memory stick I had purchased over ten years ago. It was sold by HP and the most reliable memory stick I had ever owned. Unfortunately, it was an extremely small stick and as things go, it made its way from my pocket to who knows where. It was used for transferring and storing work files, but it wasn't a secured memory device, so its going missing has caused me a lot of concern (not to mention the inconvenience of coming up with a work-around until I could come up with an answer to avoid getting into this situation again. This brings me to Kingston's Digital 64gb DT2000 Keypad USB memory stick. It starts its securing of information by having an actual keypad on the stick, that you can set with a password or number sequence up to 15 characters long (I settled for 8 characters, so I don't forget it). Then the information stored on the stick is in an encrypted format (hardware based AES 256-bit). In researching secure memory sticks the Kingston is almost unique in having the keypad hardware method for controlling who gets access to the information. (There are a few others with keypads, but some are much larger in size, and the Kingston is also moisture and dust resistant.) Most secure sticks use software encryption, and that means for it to work the different PCs you use the stick in must have software on them for the stick to work. With the Kingston you can use it on any machine and all of the security features are within the stick, nothing is placed on the machine or left behind when you are done. This was important for me because I cannot put software on the PCs on our office network. So if you use a memory stick where you work, unless you own the place or you run the IT department, this is the way to go. While the Kingston Digital 64gb DT2000 might seem to be overkill for a lot of people, how much is your personal privacy or work records worth to you? Oh, Kingston does offer the DT2000 in smaller memory amounts for less money. It is USB 3.1, so even with the encryption taking place as you use it, in a USB 3.0 capable machine the stick is fast. I highly recommend this secure memory stick if your data is important to you. ... show more

  • Great Secure USB Drive
Size: 16GB
I purchased this Drive with the Apricorn Aegis Secure Key 8 GB FIPS 140-2 8GB Level 3 US Drive and have used both for the past 6 months before I wrote this review. I was not given a discount nor an incentive for this review. I needed a portable secure storage solution for limited amount of data. There is an identical review I wrote on the other product. Both are really well built drives and I have used both to back up secure data at least 4 time a week for the past 6 months. I have not encountered any problems with unlocking or drive failure so far in either drive. The most important thing is that you should not forget the code to unlock the drive. Which to buy? Well the Aegis is larger and more solid in feel 92mm by 23mm and 12mm thick and weighs 45 grams. The Kingston is more compact (but not flimsy as its smaller--it only appears less robust) 80mm by 20mm and 10mm thick and weighs 25 grams. Both are very well made. I only have used the locking mechanism for both drives and not the other special program features so I cannot comment on them. But if you need to store secure company or patient data (the drive is HIPAA compliant) its very useful and give you peace of mind because if the drive is lost or stolen , its unlikely to get hacked. Which drive do I use more? Because I have smaller hands, I tend to use the Kingston slightly more as its lighter (but the difference between the two is minuscule) (I also tend to back up the same date on both drives), if you have larger hands the buttons on the Ageis is larger and so you may not be as prone to enter in the wrong code--as the code can be many numbers. If you need secure storage, and peace of mind, cannot go wrong with either drive. ... show more

  • Great drive use daily on Mac, Linux, and Windows great security, very dependable
Size: 64GB
Hope I didn't jinks myself BUT this drive has been great! I have used it daily for almost 2 years, with daily backups of this drive. It is great to have access to my data and know it is secure if it is lost or stolen. Highly recommended if you work on multiple platforms like I do. I reformatted it to NTFS for comparability across all my machines. Since all the encryption is done by the drive itself it is perfect for me. Will definitely buy again. ... show more

  • A good option for keeping secrets safe
Size: 16GB
Works as advertised. I like not having to fuss with encryption software. There is a little delay just before unlocking, which can throw people off. It is worthwhile to practice unlocking the stick until it is second nature, because the device will wipe itself after too many failed attempts!

  • I am very happy with it
Size: 32GB
I've had it for only a couple of days. I am very happy with it. I purchased the 32GB version and came with a FAT32 format already. I chose this version because I use special instruments and printers that can only read flash drives up to 32GBs and they must be formatted to FAT32. This flash drive has no problem connecting to the devices or printers. The drive is well built. It's easy to change the password and I like the other features like timed lockout. ... show more

  • Best Secure USB Drive
Size: 64GB
I've had several secure USB drives, but this Kingston model is the best yet. It has the same small numerical keypad that the others have, but the buttons are much easier to use--there's a helpful tactile click so you know you've positively entered the number, and the buttons are easy to access. This drive makes it easy to store all your sensitive info in one secure, yet portable drive. It's also very fast. ... show more
