Now this is the vacuum that my heavily carpeted house needs! I wouldn't say it's lightweight, but the suction is excellent, and it seems very well-built. It's a powerhouse that is built for deep cleaning; it leaves my carpet properly fluffed. It isn't very versatile in terms of going under furniture or doing detail work, and the hose is a bit short for the attachments. I'll keep my old Shark Navigator to use as a supplement for corners, under furniture and the upholstery. But I'm very happy to have this and it's much stronger than my Shark Navigator. It is heavy and might not be great for people with limited mobility or multiple floors (though, I have 4 levels in my house and can manage to take it up and down, but it is a workout). I was nervous about getting a used vacuum, but this is practically new, very clean and in great shape. I think it was labeled 'Used-Very Good'. If you have a smaller space or a lot of furniture it may not be right for you but if you have a lot of carpet or dust, I highly recommend it. ... show more

This vacuum is built like they should be, solid. This craze about bagless vacuums is ridiculous as a cloud of dust disperses each time you empty the bagless. I am a strong proponent of vacuums that use bags as dust and dirt is self-contained. This vacuum is a smidge heavy but when the roller is moving and you're into "the zone" of vacuuming, weight distribution kicks in and this pushes/pulls wonderfully. We have extra think carpet padding and extremely high pile carpet and this makes vacuuming a joy. We were a bit concerned before purchase due to our high pile carpeting and not destroying the twist of the carpet fiber. However, this has surpassed our expectations and has not disturbed the carpet's twist memory. It also gives you the option to stop the roller and only allow the suction to occur. So you can vacuum shag carpet without the roller moving and only the suction present. This is advantages for multiple carpet scenarios. Dyson and Shark have their niche with some household layouts and users but if you have bare floors, medium carpet, high pile throw rugs and plush extra-high pile carpet, then this vacuum can solve all your problems. This thing is sturdy and powerful when you need it but also allows you to incorporate gentle and delicate, like a good washing machine. ... show more

    • Great for getting hair out of carpets

It's a great vacuum and we got it at a good price. We wanted something heavy duty for our carpets and wanted a bagged model so our research led us here. Pros - It does do a great job of cleaning carpets and hardwood floors although it's not that good for corners or edges until you use the special attachments which are a bit of a chore to set up and tear down. - We have been using it for months and a single bag has lasted us this far. Seems durable. - Does a good job of picking up human and cat hair everywhere which was our main goal. Cons - The pipe is really too small and gets to you. - Its quite heavy so maneuverability isn't great. We get tired after doing our 2 bed apartment so can imagine it'll be worse for a larger house. Can't imagine carrying this up the stairs. - People mentioned it not being loud and that's just not true. It scares our poor cat every time. But that's a trade-off we made for a clean house ... show more

UPDATE - I have had this vacuum for 4 years now, using it daily in a large home. It runs and operates as well as when I first bought it. Still a beast, has great suction and gets the job done - I have 2 dogs who shed, it does a better job at picking up the pet hair and dander than any other vacuum I have had over the years. It's very durable and built to last, and after 4 years it certainly is lasting. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Have had it for a week, got it when my Dyson Animal Ball V2 needed repair again. This vacuum is a beast, with much more suction than the Dyson, and just works better. The ability to adjust carpet size is awesome. Trying to do a high pile carpet with the Dyson was work, hard work and it just didn't do a good job -- not so with the Kenmore - I can maneuver the vacuum and it gets the dirt and pet hair up. The attachment works great, it gets the dog hair off my couches with one pass - whereas with my current name-brand vacuum, it took several passes and a bit of work. The hose could be longer for the attachments, but nothing I can't live with given how good of a job it does. Very pleased with the Kenmore overall. update - 11/29/23 - have had this for nearly 2 years, and it is still running strong.
