  • Worth the hassle see below
My first delivery was a previously used item and was missing a piece. Not so great but I was able to get Amazon to very quickly ship a replacement. My second delivery was a brand new item and I'm very happy with it. The overall construction, fit and finish of the door and parts are plenty good for the price. The controller feels sturdy and is easy to navigate. It's even got reminders written on the outside of it to help navigate the menu. The battery pack is covered with a fitted rubber lid and the whole thing looks like it'll withstand the elements. The door tracks have to be screwed together but you can see in my picture that it's a very good fit. The controller winds up a string to lift the door. The string is pretty thin but it looks like it'll hold up. It attaches to the door with a fishing swivel which is hilarious but actually works really well. It looks like it would be possible but difficult to replace a string if needed. You calibrate the opening and closing yourself so if you were to replace it he shouldn't have any trouble. Something to be aware of is the gaps under the threshold and behind the door. You will have to have some material to fill that in if you want to prevent drafts. Ask for measurements you might be interested in, The door tracks are 23 1/2" tall, The controller needs to be a couple inches above the door tracks to operate properly. My setup that is pictured is 30 in tall. The space in between the tracks that the chicken can walk through will end up being 9 3/4" ... show more

  • Its awesome
We had previously purchased a different coop door opening and it was awful. I finally got tired of replacing batteries and resetting it so I BOUGHT THIS ONE. It is amazing and has worked flawlessly since day one. It was easy to install and program. I love that is shows the battery life.. i have had it set up for a few weeks now ( batteries are still showing 100%) its not eating batteries and has been exactly what my chickens and turkeys needed. Its so nice to know I can go out to dinner and not have to rush home to put my chickens away (we have a major coyote issue) and this has been such an awesome door opener. 1000% buy it, you won't be disappointed! ... show more

  • Works well, only one issue
I love the device. Nice instructions on how to install and set the software. My coop is in the back of a barn with the large opening to the northeast and therefore the difference in light is not great. Therefore I use time for open and close. Works great for that. The chickens have no problem going in and out. The only issue is that there is no override for open or close if you want to move the door outside of the set times. I like that the door is opened with a string that winds up and down. no smashed chickens! The bottom of the door is protected by an angle bar that shields the bottom of the sliding door from prying little hands. ... show more

  • Worked great, until it stopped.
We bought this 26June 2022. When we moved we left it off the door from November until April due to a severe winter. So it has been used continuously for about 1 year. It worked great up until a month ago. Stopped working while we were out of town and trapped girls inside for 2 days in summer heat. When I got back I thought it was the batteries. I’ve changed them out 3 times to ensure it wasn’t an old battery issue. This door no longer works at all. I’m not sure if it is a weather issue? The battery compartment is supposed to be weather tight, and the door is partly protected under a roofline. It’s worth the money…but not if it only works x1 year. ... show more

  • GREAT door-11 months so far without issues
I waited a couple of months to write this. I have an OverEZ chicken coop and had purchased their door which costs 3x as much as this one—and it never worked right. After a year, I stopped trying. Even plugged into the electric it would malfunction constantly. So, I purchased this door after reading reviews. You will have to alter the install a bit if you have an OverEZ coop because the coop door opening is bigger than this door—I just added a piece of wood. My coop opens into a run that is closed every night and nothing except maybe a rat can get into it. That being said, this door might be a little flimsy if it’s the only thing between your chickens and the great outdoors, but, in my case, it works. I need it as an extra layer of protection and to keep the heat in in the winter when I have their heater going at night. 2 months of use and the 4 AA batteries didn’t fail me even once. Door went up and down like it was supposed to for the past 60 days on the same batteries. I just changed them today to be safe bc I didn’t want to risk it. Also—I installed my door inside of my coop, so, it’s always protected from the elements. Will probably increase the life span, I’m sure. ***UPDATE—it’s been 11 months and this door is still going strong! I just changed the batteries for only the THIRD time in 11 months. I’m thinking of buying a 2nd one of these to configure to my run. ... show more

  • Lasted 2 years
Got this door March 2021 and it worked great. I changed the batteries every 4-6 months. I noticed about 3 months ago the battery pack was starting to show corrosion. Last week I changed out the batteries and now it won't work. This is in my covered chicken run (there is a gap above the unit where rain does still hit the until) I'd imagine it wouldn't last as long if it wasn't covered at all. Pros: -Not hard to change batteries -Has time and light opening/closing options -Worked great for 2 years -Cost effective Cons: -While it was easy to get to the batteries they were hard to pop out of the battery pack -Door does not lock in place -Had corrosion from weather -Had to reset clock and time everytime I changed the batteries ... show more

  • Works as expected
Been using for 6 months and haven’t had any problems with it The original batteries are still at 23% Relatively easy to install just have to line things up right Only fault is it didn’t manually close So I can’t lock the chickens in the run when I need to clean the coop or add feed Overall I’m very happy with it ... show more
