There are so many uses for a hotplate. I would have loved to have had one in college. Sure, we had sulphurated matches and good hickory kindling, but when you had a mac and cheese attack at midnight, it was a lot of time and work. My use will be dinners that take more burners than my range has, and that occurs often. If you dye your clothes, this hotplate in the laundry room will make short work of that vat of boiling dye. This hotplate looks great and heats well. I tested a liter of water on this hotplate and on my range. The time to boil was about the same. The very long time to cool the burners was about the same. The difference was that the Karinear burner reached over 700 degrees, while the range burner was at about 500 degrees. The long cooldown on the range isn’t much of a bother, but the twenty minutes that the Karinear took to cool until the fan and warning message turned off was over twenty minutes. At that time, the burner temperature was 140 degrees. That’s still a burn temperature. If you yank out the plug, you could possibly cause the glass top to break due to thermal shock. You would certainly have a burn hazard. If you are going to use the hotplate for more than one process, don’t turn the power off. It will not allow you to use any controls until the cooling cycle has finished. The heat controls aren’t going to be helpful right off the bat. They are menu items, or wattages. Not good old one to ten or good old low, medium, or high. Consider the barbecue button to be medium, the steam button to be medium high, and the stir-fry button to be high, and you will be fine. BIG pots and pans fit just fine on this cooktop - that was the first criterion I had to test. The owner's manual says the maximum size is 24 cm (~9.5 inches) but I was able to cook with slightly bigger pans without a loss in heat distribution. The controls are easy to see and easy to use. I wouldn't normally use this electric cooktop right next to my gas stove - I just wanted to show what happens at Thanksgiving and other big family gatherings - 4 burners just isn't enough but 6 will get the job done. I have stainless steel, cast iron, and tempered glass cookware and they all work just fine with this 2 burner cooktop. To keep it clean, I plan to use specially formulated glass cooktop cleaner and a soft cloth whenever spills get stuck, but otherwise, a damp sponge was all I needed to get the minor spatters. ... show more

This is nicely made. I have easily cooked 4 meals on this already. I like that it indicates it's still hot when off and the fan is cooling down (I took off a star because the "T" in HOT is messed up on the digital display but I still know what it means. I wish it had a protector you could add while it cools down but the digital display is very helpful to know that the cooktop is still hot. ... show more

This is a very nice and lightweight electric cooktop. I love the handles on it, and it is easy to use, carry, and store. It is very attractive and isn't too big either. Plus, it works great. The dial has wonderful "clicky" action when turning it, and it even has a fan that runs to help cool it during operation and after you turn it off. This can draw an output up to 1800W, so don't use anything else on that circuit when cooking at max, or you will surely trip the breaker. This is especially true if you only have a 15-amp circuit. That's the absolute maximum a 15-amp circuit can handle. If you have a 20-amp circuit, perhaps something else small could also be on it. But don't push it. But truly, this thing is great and will surely come in handy. If you are looking for something portable like this, I would definitely recommend taking a look at this one! ... show more

This is so straightforward to use. The electric stove is perfect for hotpot nights when you have your friends and family over and need something to keep the pot boiling in the middle of the dining table without issue. I like that this avoids the mess of using candle fires or something else that uses gas. Electric seems cleaner and way better at temperature control so you don't overcook the raw vegetables and meats in hotpot. The Karinear Portable Electric Stove looks promising, but after plugging it in, the controls don't respond at all. The burner won't heat up, making it completely unusable. Disappointing performance for an 1800W appliance.

I ordered this not for cooking but for crafting and metal restoration, electroplating and chemistry purposes where I need a finely adjustable hot plate with a glass top for easy cleanup. This product is great for all of those things. For crafting, specifically marquetry, I can heat sand in a small cast iron skillet to get the exact temp I want to brown my veneers as desired. For electroplating and electrolysis, I can heat the temps in glass containers just slightly, which is convenient to raise my liquids to about 80° in an unheated winter workshop. The base is large and sturdy and this unit allows me to finely control my temps based on my needs with whatever I’m working on. I can strongly recommend this product for industrial home shop purposes. ... show more
