  • Great guitar for beginners and intermediate. Lots of features!
Style: With Bag
I am a guitar player from the 1980's. I haven't played my old guitar for a number of reasons. When I saw this guitar, I knew I had to try it. This guitar is what I call a "smart guitar". It never needs tuning. The strings are actually laid flat against the neck, and all I have to do is touch them with an easy touch in my chord formation and strum away. No more sore fingers! I will admit that this guitar is ideal for guitarists with much more ability than me because it can be hooked right into the computer with a MIDI and they can record passages and manipulate them. I don't do that. I play for the personal satisfaction, just basic chords. I use it mostly for church groups for song service. The guitar is rechargeable and holds a charge for a long time. The built in speaker is very good. I don't need any external amplification, although there is a jack for that! There is also a jack for a personal mic, positioned right where I would need it in order to lead songs. The neck clicks on and off and so the case is smaller than a regular guitar case. I love that feature. There is an app that I downloaded to my phone that allows me to do tutorials and learn features of the guitar, as well as provide lessons for many popular songs. I can also change the tone of my guitar. Fascinating! I no longer need to use a capo to adjust the pitch of the song, since this has a built in capo + and - button. That is so great! My only observation is that to turn the guitar on or off, the guitar plays a short 'harp' kind of power on and power off melody. If the guitar is unplayed for 15 minutes, it automatically turns off, with the musical sign off song. This is not ideal when I have the guitar sitting in church! If I wait to turn it on prior to using it, again, we have the pleasant, but distracting sign on song. I wish there was a way to silence that. I don't mind the lights flashing on and off. ... show more

  • Hopefully a review that will help

An updated review. First, the product: I thought is was a very nice machine. It was exactly as described - I was able to pick it up and start playing it. I was happy it made me sound like I knew a bit. I'm just a novice but have a little experience from 40 years ago. My son tried it and it sounded great (so, it's a great buy overall). One of the best parts was that I could play for a long time without my fingers hurting due to the nylon strings and the build which meant I could practice longer. I've played a guitar with nylon strings before but this one made it a lot easier. Overall it is excellent for playing. However, I did return it for a couple of reasons: (1) What I found was that playing this gave me the ability to actually sound pretty good and I could tell I was able to work on my technique without worrying about sounding bad and my fingers hurting (this is a +) but my issue was when I went back to a real guitar I was getting worse. This could totally be a "me" problem or it could be a "new/novice player" problem but, for me, I knew I would probably not play my real guitar if I continued with this. I would say that if my son was playing it or I have a couple more years of playing a real guitar then there wouldn't be an issue. (2) Maybe it was me (and my son) but although I could do a hammer-on (although there needs to be some more work done on this feature), we could not get a hammer-off to work. Not a real big issue and I'm pretty confident the company will have refined a lot of this upon the next version. So, even though I returned it I'm looking forward to a newer version. My plan is to find a vendor that I can test it out before buying it again because I really do think it's a great machine / tool for learning and playing. In addition, although having the various instruments was nice I found that it was way more than I wanted. If there was a different model that was set to, say, classical guitar for less I would have purchased that version - I know this is not for everyone but I think there's a population that would appreciate having less features for a more moderate price tag. Second, the company: I was getting a bit impatient waiting for the refund as the guitar was delivered to them on Jun 24th (I guess I'm used to refunds going through within a day or two) but, everything was processed and as far as I'm concerned, I'll work with the company in the future. And last - should you purchase? Well that's so individualized but all I can say is watch video reviews and what you see is what it can do. It does sound really good and it has a lot of potential. Yes, I returned it but, I fully expect to repurchase in the future once more development is done on the software - maybe version 2 or 3. ... show more

  • Pretty cool!

Not great for hammer pulls and tapping and/or rock guitar at all. But a cool travel option for practice.

  • Know what to expect and enjoy it for what it is.

It's fun, but just know what you're getting. If you're a beginner, you'll love it. If you're beginner to intermediate, you'll have fun. If you're above that, God knows what you'll think. Some like it, some hate it. I have played off and on for 30 years and have a few guitars. The weight feels great, much like a real guitar. The size is perfect, the sound quality is better than I expected, and it's just a fun thing to play with. But saying that, it's not like a real guitar, but it kinda is in certain aspects. You can use autostrum, have beats going, play notes, or just set it up to play chords while pressing anywhere in the fret region without hitting specific strings. You can learn songs with the app which I'm not a fan of in many ways. But it's fun. I'm not there yet, but I have noticed pains here and there in my hands occasionally, and I totally get why so many older players love this thing when they're in pain. It's just a tool that is enough of a guitar, enough of a learning tool, and enough of a crutch for a niche market. Just don't expect a 100% guitar experience. When I've described it to people while I was waiting for it, I called it a hybrid. ... show more
