Summary: you’re better off going to a dollar store than getting this. I had the intention of using this with hooks in a multi tier cage so it hangs. I bought two of them for a friend and myself. They both came with different blankets. They’re cute but one was brown the other was blue. Neither of them came with hooks. I think that’s misleading calling this a “hammock hanging basket” the basket has the holes for it but no hooks to fasten it. For $20 this is a rip off for sure. You’re better off going to the dollar tree or 99 cent store getting a deep bowl and a small handkerchief. The quality of the basket definitely can be chewed through by a rat. I’d recommend putting a small piece of wood or something for them to chew on before they get ideas on the basket/blanket. I thought at $20 the basket was going to thicker/durable. Plastic cereal bowls are thicker than this.

Its funny, but my rats hate the liner to be in the basket with them. Even if its just one rat, they pull it out and drag it to another location in their cage, flatten it out, and lay on it like a bed. I've tried putting it back in the basket, but they just rip it out. The little blanket that it also comes with they allow that to stay in the basket if I put it back, but they also like carrying that around with them all over the cage. They do use the basket but they like it to be just them, and maybe their blanket.

This is easily my rats’ favorite place to sleep. They choose it over their hammocks and other beds they loved before the basket got introduced. The bedding seems to retain enough heat to keep them cozy, and they have the choice of hiding or poke their heads out to investigate. My only complaint would be that it encourages them to be lazy!

Approximately 45 seconds after hooking this up to their Critter Nation, my daughter's 2 young rats (approx 3mo old) were in it snuggling! I gave it 4 stars because the end of the hooks were too big to fit through the correct holes for installation. For now, I have them through the long slots, and we'll shave them down a bit to fit the correct ones this weekend Overall we love it, and so do Ronald and Toby!! 🐁🐀
