  • Jiobit work for cats BUT you must re-charge every day
Model: Jiobit Gen 2
Jiobit is a great device but one not intended for pets and certainly not cats even though they advertise it as such. The main issue is battery life. Do not believe for a second that the device will stay charged for a week or even a weekend. If your cat is not in the house so that the device is connected to WiFi it will completely run down within 24 hours and even that depends on the cat itself. Even at home in the house it needs re-charging every 2 days. One of my cats with medium length hair roams a little more than my other cat so whichever collar he is wearing constantly needs to be re-charged even if he never leaves the house. My other cat with short hair seldom leaves the "home" location but even then needs to be re-charged every 2 days. I have 4 devices for 2 cats and pay $36 a month and am constantly charging one device so I always have a charged device on either cat. It is a nuisance BUT it does work as far as location and that eliminates a lot of stress. I can bring up my app and immediately see if my cats are within 50 feet of the house or on the next street. One problem is the device goes to sleep if in one location for more than 15 minutes and can not be woken up unless cat moves or you are in bluetooth range. It will also show my cats crossing water to get to another street, which at first made me think they fell in the water. I bought two from Jiobit/Tile site and 1 from the Amazon site. The Amazon Jiobit does not work as well and I assume that the Jiobit one is being constantly upgraded by Jiobit but the difference is marginal. I bought the warranty on the Amazon one because it took me 4 months of complaining and sending screen shot after screen shot of battery issues and location issues to Jiobit to try and fix the software problems I was seeing and try to make it more usable for cats. Eventually I was sent two refurbished Jiobits which had more issues than the original ones. When I finally got the refurbished ones working with the assistance of the ever polite customer service, I was told it was MY cat's behavior specifically that were the issue and that nothing more could or would be done to help me with any issues I might have with the refurbished Jobit's. I know my cat's are in fact just cat's and roam far less than most cat's so I pressed the agent about it and they admitted that Jiobit was not made for pets and certainly not one's that left a trusted place. Which my question is, who buys and pays for such a device for a pet that never leaves the house? So my solution was to buy a 3rd Jiobit from Amazon, and then a 4th, solely because the replacement policy is not as difficult. I have also purchased a Tractive which I am carrying around to see if it would be worth using. I have driven all over and had it in my purse for 3 weeks and the Tractive is still on 80%. A marked improvement. The app is just not as user friendly as the Jiobit, so I will only use that one when I have a pet sitter there. One thing I wish I could contact Jiobit for but haven't since I was told it must be my cat's behavior and not the device. One of the refurbished Jiobit's will occasionally show on the app that it has lost connection and my app will start beeping and sending alerts to my phone telling me that the Jiobit is out of range! It only happens when my cat is calmly sleeping two feet away from me or the Jiobit is in the charger but continues until I tell it to ignore the Jiobit. I did not complain to tech support because even though it still has not been a year since my first purchase, and I am technically still under full warranty, what is the point? I was told in a polite email that they couldn't or wouldn't do anything more to help me further since my cat's behavior was the issue and not their device. I think it is an issue of the Jiobits were never designed for cat's/dogs. They were designed for people who are always in a Trusted Location. School, Home, Doctor, etc. The best indicator of this is the lack of pet friendly attachments. None of them are actually suitable for pets. Will they work? Sure with some creativity, but hanging straight down a cat or dog's neck is neither comfortable nor the best way to gain reception so as a pet owner you have to mitigate that. To make it truly functional there needs to be either an attachment for a break-away collar for cats or a regular collar for dogs or actual built in collars you can buy that are suitable for each pet. That way the position might be better. A pet pack giving you two on the same device you can switch out with the same app name or a way to change out a rechargeable battery would be even better. Along with continuing to be waterproof. All that being said the device does what it is supposed to. You know exactly where your pet is and that is a great feature I have come to rely on so I diligently charge my Jiobits daily, and change them out morning and night. I hope one day someone will figure out how to make these devices more cat friendly and therefore able to last at least an entire weekend before needing to be recharged. ... show more

  • Brilliant tracker with long battery life if used correctly
Model: Jiobit Gen 2
I bought this tracker to be able to track down my son, in case he should suddenly run away from us, when we are out. As the owner of a software company that develops software for transportation and data collection on the road, I know that small sized trackers are very difficult to make. On one side you need as a minimum a built in data cellphone module to be able to send frequent updated positions over the internet, and a built in gps receiver to be able to get the childs position from satellites. On the other side you want the tracker to be extremely small in size and light weight. We have used this tracker now for a month in 3 different countries with very good results and we have had a very long battery life between charges, at least a week. I am extremely impressed by the Jiobit, the free app and the battery life of the Jiobit. However, it is important to fully understand how this unnatural long battery life is achieved: - When the child is within proximity of your phone, the Jiobit switches to a power saving bluetooth technology. Obviously a small child like ours will be within our proximity most of the time. However in the app you can also invite other people into a "Care Team", for example grand parents, siblings etc. For bigger children the care team can even include the childs own cell phone. As long as the child is within proximity (30 meters or so) of a member of the care team, battery consumption is extremely low. If the child is suddenly missing in a crowded place, you can go to the app and remote activate a siren on the tracker, so you can hear where your child is. There is also an indicator in the app telling you how close you are to the child. This is efficient for indoor places where gps signals won't work and in also crowded places outdoor. If the child is to far away from you or any other member of the care team, the Jiobit automatically switches to the more power consuming cell phone data/gps system, where you can track the child all over the world, no matter how far away from the child you are. In this mode the Jiobit will work for about 1.5 to 2 days if no other power consuming settings have been made. However in the data cell phone/gps mode, there are also ways to save energy in the app: - You can mark Trusted Places on a map, so when the child is in kinder garden for example, it will save battery life until the child leaves the kinder garden area. - If the child is in the same spot for a longer period of time, Jiobit will inform the app, that it will stop sending updates until the child moves again to save battery. - You can teach your home wifi to Jiobit, so as long as Jiobit is within reach of your wifi, it will also save battery life. The tracker comes with a strong "claw" to put the tracker on clothes without it falling off. As an accessory you can buy a magnetic lock pin (a la shop theft tags on clothes), so the child won't be able to remove the tracker. All in all absolutely THE BEST small tracker on the market within the limits of todays technology. ... show more

  • Kept us at ease
Model: Jiobit Gen 2
We recently went on a trip to UNIVERSAL studios Florida. Taking our toddler for the first time. Even though we have 4 kids, you never feel completely OK. So as extra precaution we bough one of these, just in case. B3cause anything can happen. It really set our minds at ease. It was small enough that he didn't even notice it was attached. It has multiple attachment methods included. Step by step tracking. Super lightweight and easy to set up. It does have a subscription fee. I believe 14.99 a month. But that's totally worth it for my own piece of mind. And you can do month by month. So no needing to subscribe if you don't need it. ... show more

  • Just hope it works because no real support.
Model: Jiobit Gen 3
Probably the most suitable device for special needs persons. I will not give 5 stars because you will get zero support. I thought mine had failed but it was a problem with the app apparently that went away with a restart of the apple devices. But before it resolved itself I went to their support link. You’ll communicate with their program which will say ‘yes’ to your question about a repair ticket, along with yes if you ask about the weather. But no email response as promised. Nothing. So know that. No issues at all, even in the first few days, with battery life. We have the gen 3, so get that. They only sell gen 3 thru Amazon. A few oddball things about the app but so far nothing major. The device you set it up on is the only one that allows settings changes. Wonder what happens if I replace that iphone? ... show more
