Great tracking and anti-theft device

Peace of mind when we drive across the country with our stuff in the car. We always knew where our car was parked, whether there is vibration or movement from someone trying to break into it. A few false alarms when a Harley Davidson rode by but I rather it error on the side of caution than not alert me when someone breaks in. Didn't have any problems with mobile connection from California to Florida. High recommend if you're moving or travel with your stuff. Note, it does not sound an alarm in the car. Peace of mind for my Jeep Gladiator

My Jeep JT was stolen last year but I recovered it with a cheaper brand of GPS tracking. My one gripe was I wasn’t notified that the car was taken. Fast track to a few weeks after recovery/repairs and this system checks every box. I have pop up notifications if the system is unplugged, ignition started, or if the vehicle leaves the area all within the app. It also has vibration detection on the device to alert if someone gets in my cab. I placed the single role vibration detector on my bumper and winch if anyone touches that. One downside is if there’s heavy winds or big vehicles or loud motorcycles pass your vehicle when the system is armed it may trigger an alarm if they shake your vehicle enough. I did other upgrades as well including kill switches and locking hoods and this shouldn’t be your only layer of protection for valuable vehicles. ... show more

Awesome Device for Peace of Mind... when it works

I've had my CarLock device for almost 2.5 years now and overall I've been very pleased with the service and peace of mind it provides. Depending on where you live, you might experience a difference in reliability as far as connection and how quickly everything works. I had to contact Support a few times when I first began using it back in Pennsylvania. To be fair, I lived in a more rural area at the time, but even then after a few emails back and forth, as well as some remote triage and software upgrades, they got the device working consistently and reliably. The diagnostic process can be frustrating sure, but they were willing to credit my account with an extra month or two as needed to make up for the time when the device was not working properly. Seeing how the device needs to work in different locations, conditions, in and out of parking structures or garages, etc.. it was understandable that some tinkering was needed to get it working just right for me in my particular area. Fast forward to more recently, I have relocated from Pennsylvania to Georgia. Similar to before, I began having reliability and consistency issues with the device and service. Just as before though, Support was more than willing to assist. After several attempts and remotely triaging and updating the device, they came to the conclusion that I would need a replacement. They offered me a few different options to facilitate this. I chose to buy a new device from Amazon (to get it faster) and then to return the old device to CarLock directly. Upon receiving my old device, they promised to credit my account several months to offset the price of the new device. Additionally, just as before, they also added 2 extra months to my account to reconcile the time the device and service have not been properly working. I just replaced the unit today and will be sending back the old one tomorrow. It is clear that CarLock is a company that intends to continuously stand by their devices and service. There was zero hesitation in offering help and options to rectify the issues I was having. Great customer service is not something that I take lightly, especially these days. Problems can happen with any product or service. How the company chooses to assist the customer when that occurs is what makes all the difference in the world. I have confidence that in the next week or so, we will have my new device and the service working 100% as it should. If anything unexpected happens or my experience changes, I will then update my review at that time. That unlikely possibility aside, I have been very pleased with CarLock altogether. ... show more

Carlock is unreliable and tech support is close to non-existent.

After 30ish days with Carlock and countless hours troubleshooting two different units I can say with great disappointment that the product just doesn’t really work as a car alarm and GPS tracking product. First the good: It’s a really neat idea that packs both car alarm, GPS tracking, and mobile notification into an easy to install and easy to use mobile smartphone interface for a low acquisition cost and reasonable monthly fee. Now the bad: The product is just not reliable. I went through two different Carlock units and a Carlock bluetooth tag (which never worked either). Neither Carlock unit I had could reliably detect vibration short of directly tapping on the units case. No manner of attaching it to multiple parts of the vehicle frame, repositioning, tape, zipties, etc. would allow it to reliably detect any sort of vibration short of having access to the physical plastic carlock device case and tapping on it. At times if it was tethered to the car frame near a door it could be set off with a really exaggerated door slam. Neither unit would reliability track a vehicle in any meaningful time frame either. Best case scenario you are at least a mile down the road before it starts tracking its first GPS waypoint (or sending an alert). This means geo-fencing is worthless as you won’t get a geo-fence alarm signal prior to your car being stolen and at least a mile away from where you left it. The first unit I received would randomly lock up and was unable to record any information about 5 minutes into a drive. So you could go for a 30 minute drive, the unit would lock up shortly after recording the first GPS waypoint. You could continue driving and the unit would never record another data point (GPS, Battery Voltage, Alerts, etc.) Eventually you would come home and about 4 hours later you would get all the updates and alerts that happened over the past 4 hours. During these 4 hour freeze period the Carlock would usually show my car somewhere in the middle of the street about a mile from my house even though it had been in my driveway for hours. This makes the unit worthless for GPS tracking as if your vehicle is stolen and it takes 4 hours to update its location what benefit does that provide. The only way to get the unit out of this frozen state (other than waiting hours) was to remove the Carlock device from the vehicle, open the carlock device case, remove the SIM card, reinstall the SIM card at which point all the cached alerts would come streaming into my phone based app and the web portal. After troubleshooting with Carlock for a week I returned it to Amazon and bought a second unit thinking…maybe the first one was just bad. I was wrong. I received the second unit and it seemed to work a bit better. It wouldn’t freeze up for hours on end like the first unit did into a drive, but would still sometimes take upwards of 10 minutes to record its first data point once I started the vehicle for a drive That meant the Carlock unit could be armed, I don’t unarm it, I get in the car (which it should vibration detect and alert), start the car (which it should also detect and alert), drive the car away, leave the geo-fence zone (which it should detect and alert) and Carlock would report none of these actions in anything close to real time. Roughly 10 minutes later Carlock will finally report, car started, but wouldn’t ever show the 10 minute test drive I took. Again an alarm system that goes off 10 minutes or more after the vehicle has been started and driven away and never record that it left your driveway doesn’t’ buy you much. Mind you this is with Carlock reporting a lock on half a dozen GPS Sats and 4 out of 5 bars on the GSM meter via the app. Now let’s get to Carlock tech support. Carlock tech support has no phone number so you will never talk to a live human. Carlock doesn’t appear to have many support reps and my guess is that the few they do are not in north America. Any inquiry to tech support takes at least overnight to respond in the best case scenario. In the worst case it can be days before you get a reply, especially if your response was sent to carlock toward the end of the week. (Carlock has no support on weekends) so you can reply on Friday morning and not hear back until Monday evening. The Carlock tech support responses always comes in the middle of the night or early AM US time. The result is trying to troubleshoot with tech support stretches on for days as every inbound/outbound communication is significantly delayed.. My efforts also seemingly never went anywhere other than “we got your ticket”, or “we updated your unit try it again” or “we need to research that further” to which the unit would still not function properly. Here is the bottom line from what I can tell. This is a basically a feel good security product that gets sold to people who want the illusion of security for $50 upfront and $9 a month. It’s the equivalent of the little sliding chain link lock that old hotels put on the door to make guest feel safe when they open the door, when the reality is that little chain link lock provides nothing but the illusion of security and will most likely fail when pressed and it counts. The unfortunate reality is that Carlock so unreliable, so slow to notify you of alerts, and the GPS and geo-location so slow and spotty the odds that Carlock would ever alert you prior to your car being broken into is slim much less let you ever find your vehicle. Carlock provides a thief plenty of time slim-jim open your vehicle, cut away your steering wheel lock, program a new key, start the car, etc. and drive way with your vehicle before you ever get an alert any of this was happening. Once your can is now stolen, Carlock’s slow and spotty GPS tracking means you could probably never track your car in any real time to find and potentially recover it. The internal Carlock device battery is also so small that once Carlock is disconnected from vehicle power or a thief just removes connection to the car battery carlock will cease function in under 30 minutes. If you needed Carlocks help to troubleshoot your Carlock alarm once your car was taken you may be waiting literally days for them to even acknowledge your support request (and then getting a meaningless reply). I wanted to love Carlock. It seemed like a great product based off the marketing without spending $1000 on a traditional car alarm, requiring a car alarm tech cutting all sort of wires in your vehicle to install it, and an even more expensive monthly fee for cellular monitoring. After 30ish disappointing days, two carlock units and one carlock tag later, I am now returning the second unit, the same as I did with the first one (and tag) as I have no faith the product will perform when it counts. BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK

I was in the market for getting a GPS Tracker with an alarm. I am old school, I was looking for an alarm that sounds loud and everyone can hear it. This is NEW technology, when you buy the (motion sensors ) extra. They go off as soon as the car detects any movement and the APP on your phone goes OFF LOUD. There is no excuse I did not hear the alarm. At the car there won't be any sounds. This is good because the person messing with your car will not know. Giving you time to act in which ever way you decide is safe for you. The app gives you GPS TRACKING depending on the subscription you purchase. The subscriptions are the most reasonable on the market at this moment. It also lets you set an alarm at any top speed you want. Anyone driving the car goes over that speed the alarm will go off on the APP on your cell phone. It also rates the way you drove your trip letting you know where you were speeding and where you did hard stops. The app also shows you how many miles you have driven on a monthly basis in case you want to keep track of your milage. Trips you have taken and length in time of each trip. Many more features, I just want to give you an idea on what you will get with this unit. As far as the Unit I purchased the OBDII extender and placed the unit away from my OBDII. No one knows I have the unit installed except me. Plus it leaves the OBDII open for any time you might need to access it. This unit also activates the alarm on a timer. The app lets you set up the time you want the unit to activate after you have turned off the car. I purchased the unit I also purchased sensors for each door of my vehicle as well as the tag. The TAG is one of the greatest add on I highly recommend. What the tag does is activates and deactivates the alarm automatically when you come close to your car automatically. This way you won't have to do it with your cell phone before you open your car. All in all if you want something that will not break the bank and will give you a piece of mind I will highly recommend this unit. The only thing is that in order to make this GPS ALARM work the way it is intended to don't SKIMP out on the add-ons. Buy the add ons you need because you will save on the monthly subscription and have a piece of mind. How much is a piece of mind worth it to you? I have a lot of experience with GPS car alarms. I've been running the 103B china models in two of my cars for 10 years. The negatives of them is they need cell phone plans, they pull a decent amount of power (30mA) which made my car batteries only last about 2 years, and the signal strength wasn't very good. I decided to switch to Carlock after good reviews from my friend. Overall I am very impressed. It has amazing service, even inside my garage. I love how it shows the vehicle battery voltage and will even alerts you if it drops too low. The power draw is very small at just 2mA. That's 15x less than my old alarm systems. The vibration sensor seems to have a good degree of sensitivity. It's not to sensitive, but also triggers my phone app within about 2 seconds when I open one of my doors. The one negative is the Tag to automatically arm/disarm the alarm. It appears to activate on motion (such as when you are walking). It does arm and disarm my car every time. The main issues I have probably wont affect most people. For the car I drive to work, I like to take lunch break in my car. As I'm sitting there listening to music, it will arm again. Occasionally since it's armed the vibration sensor sends me an alert from the music bass. I wish it was a little better at checking if it's near the car before it arms again. I'll get half a dozen alerts or more in just one 30 minute lunch break. I bought my seconds alarm for my show car. I'm probably not going to use the smart lock feature with the tag because it will most likely keep arming when I'm sitting by my car, then disarm if I stand up to talk to someone. Maybe that will change in future updates. Overall I'm very happy with it. It's great peace of mind knowing where my cars are at all time and if one gets hit in the parking lot or broken into, I'll know immediately. ... show more
