After almost a year of using this, I have come to a final conclusion that this thing sucks! Not the unit itself, but Garmin and their 'programmers' who program this thing with SUPPOSED truck routes! It AVOIDS routes that trucks ARE ALLOWED to use, and sends you down roads that trucks ARE NOT supposed to use! I use this in the northeast, mainly NY and PA, and it's all but useless outside of main interstates! I don't know why it's so hard to accurately program a GPS with truck routes but apparently it's beyond the capabilities of the geniuses at Garmin. I mean if you can't trust the leader in GPS navigation, who CAN you trust? I've had even worse results with Rand McNally. Is it that they just don't care about the northeast? Or is it this way across the whole country? I have completely lost faith in Garmin, this wasn't cheap and now I'm stuck with it. Gee, sure looks pretty though... I left my original review below, which was initially positive, but having used this for a while now, Garmin has shown their true colors, even with the latest updates! Below is my original review. I do NOT feel this way anymore. Let's face it, trucker GPS's primary purpose is to make money for the manufacturers. Hard truth but it is the truth. I have had many over the years including trucker navigation software for my laptop. Most have been horrible, even if using for a car! I recently used CoPilot for my cell phone, and though it seemed almost ok, it was not very easy to use and lacked many features you'd expect to be available. In 2014 I bought a Rand McNally tablet truck GPS and was highly disappointed. Then I tried a Garmin Dezl 770 with marginally acceptable results, basically it was good enough to remind me of a turn coming up on the route that I had to 'build' to the point of just not using it anymore, the mount sucked (couldn't be tightened, wouldn't stay straight), another disappointment. I had no idea what direction to go for my next trucker GPS and did a lot of research and read and watched many reviews on the OTR Series tablet GPS units for trucks. Most people are still saying avoid the Rand McNally's, they're still junk both in quality and functionality, which really surprises me since they publish the Bible of a truckers atlas. Apparently the atlas division doesn't speak to the GPS division... So after MUCH intense research well into the night, I decided to take a chance on the Dezl OTR1000 model. The good: almost everything! You can now FINALLY update the thing without hooking it up to a computer! Magnetic mount (stroooong too), can use in portrait or landscape, the mount is heavy duty, well made, the unit is quite loud (many complained about this so they must have fixed the issue), the screen is amazing and it processes routes quicker than any GPS I've ever used. There's just too much to add. It works, got it this morning and spent all day (it's now 2:30 am) running it through my tests. It actually knows where to go! So far so good. I'll update this review in a month or so after I've actually used it in the truck. I love how you can send directions (I use actual coordinates copied from Google Maps) directly to the GPS in seconds. The bad: it runs Android 6...really? 6? This means good luck finding any apps that will even download onto it. And WHAT GPS DOESN'T COME WITH A CALCULATOR? Most of us aren't mathematicians but we don't have to be, but come on man, we DO use numbers daily. Overall, at this point, I'm very happy with it and I think it actually knows where my truck should or should not be. I'll update this later. For now, while pricey and no, I don't think any piece of plastic is worth that kind of money, I would recommend this.

Great product.

I have a small trucking business. I use this GPS for the 18-wheeler truck. I have been around a company GPS and this one by far is a great GPS. I have used it thus for 3 months and this GPS has not led me wrong. Especially rolling over the road. This GPS has not brought me down roads that I I would regret later. It keeps you on the familiar trucking routes. The night time lights on it is very visible. You can adjust your route and so many other things. It will let you know where all of the rest stops are all of the popular rest stops are. I have no complaints as being a owner operator with this GPS.

I'm not much of a reviewer. I'm just a truck driver. Honestly if you are on the fence about buying this gps, don't be. I watched a few YouTube videos on this one and Rand Mcnally newest unit. I bought this Christmas time 2020. It works great. Easy to use. Screen size is a big bonus for me. Especially for people with older eyes. I've hit some pretty hard bumps and the magnet has yet to drop the GPS. It is very strong. It is on a Google platform. This thing has so many features I thought I would never use but I actually do from time to time. I have a 579 Pete and I put it at the top middle of my window. See picture. So it also works great at blocking the sun. Lol I've been driving semis for 27 years. So I understand the roads. So use commonsense when driving don't always depend on a GPS. So far it hasn't put me somewhere I shouldn't be. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS GPS.

Feels like.an incomplete gps but it works

I have used it for two months. I like route editing. There some adresses it cannot find but does the rand. I go aroud thos problem by using google map and getting the adress infront or on the side of the actual adress i am i traveling to. I mounted it on top side of wimdshield. The soction is excellent but if the glass is dirty or if the suxtion rubber it will fall somount it clean. Ive gone through the i80 76 and every bad road in which i thought it was impossible for the mount not to fall but it didnt. As long you properly mount it youll be good. There things that can be added to make this an excellent gps but i only need iy for city travel. It also would be nixe if it can show gas prices or focus on the truck stops that i lime the most to better trip plan.

A driver's tool

My 1st GPS was Rand McNally. It completely failed in less than 6 months. My 2cnd was a Garmin. Absolutely fantastic. I moved up to dezl 1000 for the larger screen size. My eyes are getting old and this is easier to see. The improvements from old device are greatly appreciated. Everything is displayed without having to change screens. This is well worth the money if you're a long haul OTR driver. You can pair it with a Garmin adapter and use as your ELD, get traffic updates when pair with your phone, weather etc. This beats the days of phone banks and an atlas. Not that I rely solely on it, but if forced to I'm confident it would do the job. For the rookie driver eying this....never follow a GPS blindly, always plan your route and use common sense.

IT SUCKS!!!!!

Misleads me 1-2 times per week! Has all the latest updates. Has a TERRIBLE forecast of truck stops & parking! No way to make it better because of how inefficiently it’s programmed. Makes every end of the day a nail biter! Sometimes won’t take addresses. Mine is defective but they will only replace with a refurbished unit. Tells me they have LOTS of refurbished ones and that many new ones need FIXING RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX! STUPID is built into this device so getting one that works won’t help me. I’m now using a RM TND and it works much better.
