A few years ago, I stayed at an air bnb which had one of these automatic open trash bins & it liters changed my life. I got home & ordered one. Used it for a few months then sent my siblings each one for Christmas. My in laws, who stayed at the air bnb with us, also went home and purchased for themselves. It seems like a simple thing, for a trash can to just open. Yes, I had one that had a step on lid-this is one step easier. I had one with a swinging lid. This is much cleaner. I had an open lid trash can. This is much less smelly! I was devastated when my last auto trash can broke. I got this one to replace it and am so much happier with it! The shape fits better in the space where I keep it. I use the version with a plug so I don’t have to buy batteries. The trash bags never sleep down no matter how much I smash down into the can. Could not give this a five star for odor filter. When the top automatically opens for me, there is a definite trash smell. This is not a big issue with me. I have bought a second trashcan for recycling items.

This trash bin caught my eye at first due to its size. It was going to work perfectly for my space. That space being an under counter slide out. The auto openning lid was a bonus. This item arrived quickly and packaged very well. It's simple to assemble. I am using batteries since I have no available outlet. After installing the batteries, I tested it out and everything functioned fine. Sensor seemed reliable and fairly sensitive from a good distance. This is perfect if using in an open area as suggested by the manufacturer. However, I am not using it in an open space. So, my first issue with this item is that it doesn't seem to have a sensor disable feature. Would have been nice to turn off the sensor and just use the open and close buttons. I could turn it off all together and manually open and close which I would have been fine with just to have a bin this size but I was determined to make it less sensitive. The top of the counter when the tray slid in, trigerred the lid to reopen each time. So, I came up with an idea. I had some vinyl tint around that I use for tinting head and tail lights. I took a small piece, placed over the sensor and tested the sensitivity. It did lessen it. I continued to place another piece over the first one, tested again and so on until I got it where I needed it. 5 pieces was too much, 4 was the sweet spot. I had to wave my hand much closer but the counter no longer triggered the sensor. Problem solved. Overall, quality seems good. Hopefully functionality will remain solid as well, only time will tell. ... show more

My cats are barbarians. They have killed two trash cans now-including a plastic one that had a pet lock on it. This trash can has been a TANK. I got the version with the cord for a substantial discount (yay for waiting on it for over a week!). It came super quickly and worked straight out of the box. There's a way to sort of 'hide' the trash bag so my jerks don't just shred the bag to pieces. I'm about three weeks in and there have been a couple of times where i can't get the motion sensor to register. I ended up just opening it manually and when i came back again a few minutes later, it was working again. I'll keep this updated in case it continues to act up. But for now - 4 stars for the ability to keep the trash INSIDE the trash can. ... show more

I bought this trash can because my parents have a battery-operated one and I thought it was the coolest thing ever. However, dealing with batteries is not. I am happy to have stumbled across this trash can as it definitely suits household needs, but there are a few things I'm on the fence about. Odor - It doesn't seem to hold odor in very well, even with a new charcoal insert. I smell odor a lot sooner in this can than my previous lever-activated receptacle. Size - It fits the 13-gallon bags we regularly purchased, but the shape of the can itself should be a bit wider, I feel. I can't seem to find a happy medium with this shape; I always have an overstuffed or under-filled bag, and the former proves quite difficult for me to remove. Motion detection - Motion detection is the fun part, but sometimes it can be a little unpredictable. The best spot for us to have the trashcan still sees quite a bit of activity, so the lid opens frequently when we aren't trying to use the receptacle. However, sometimes it also takes a bit of assessing range of motion detection before being able to throw something away. Durability - The can seems to be durable enough for pets and general wear and tear. We are currently in between pets so I cannot attest to how well it stands up to them, and do not have children in the household. However, so far it has held up well to me attempting to remove stuck bags, so I think it should be good. If you are concerned about pets or children - there are several ways to control use - an on/off button, an open/close button that allows for longer time than the sensor, and a lock. Overall I'm glad I made this purchase, and haven't had problems in the 2 months it has been used. The list I have above are minor nuances that do not detract from my purchase, but seeing these things improved would definitely be a bonus. ... show more
