UPDATE… Rubbermaid eventually did reach out to me concerning the issue. After a bunch of emails and pictures they did send me a new garbage can and lid 😀 Also a plus was now my kids have a new giant box to color in! I LOVE this garbage can because it is an elegant white and very easy to work, but……it had arrived with a broken loop on the lid. I thought I could make it work because the other two loops were fine but that lid just did not like me. It would not stay secure without that end loop. I contacted the company so maybe they could just send me a new lid but no luck, I haven’t heard a peep. This sucks because not only was this can a little more than I wanted to spend in the first place but I did because it was pretty, but now I have go out and buy another garbage receptacle just to throw my garbage in 🤦🏻♀️ Make sure you fully inspect the lid loops before you have your kids color all over and inside the shipping box it came in‼️ ... show more

This is good in the sense that it's quality plastic, pedal works well, and lid seems stable. But one of the features I initially liked best about it turned out to be the one that broke it, and that is the handles on the inside of the can. These are made to help hold the trash bag in place and prevent it from sliding down into the can itself. Great idea, and very useful...until one or both of those handles breaks. Then it makes putting the trash bag into the can very difficult, and the bag is no longer held in place. When the handles broke on the one I purchased, I went to Target and bought a stainless steel one that I like much better. This is a great trash can as long as the handles are stable. ... show more

My family has had these trash cans for years, and they've never had any issue with them. They are easy to clean. There is a piece that hold that trashbag, and when the lid sits on top of it, it pushed the piece down to add extra security to hold the trashbag in place more securely. I've purchased this item a couple of times already. It's big enough for a 5 person family & the hands-free opening system with the step is a big convenience for me. The lid broke after a year or so and I just figured the kids were too rough with it & reordered another one since it meets my family's needs. The lid broke again in the same exact place as the first trash can after just a couple of weeks! It was so irritating that I took a closer look. It appears that the plastic piece (the loop) that holds the metal rod, which lifts up & opens the lid when the step on the bottom is engaged is VERY THIN. It broke without someone abusing it because it couldn't handle the weight of the lid. We went with a trash can without the hands-free system for a while, but then the little plastic pieces that stick out on the sides that actually hold the lid & allow it to open, broke & I now have a busted trash can, Which is disappointing because the trash can itself is in almost new shape. But every time someone goes to throw something out, the lid falls off & makes a lot of noise. Not buying this item again ... show more

My first one of these cans was almost by accident. I went to a local big-box store hoping to find a stainless kitchen trash can made in the USA or Canada to replace the one I lost in a fire at my former home. Sadly there were no metal kitchen cans on the shelf that were made in the Western Hemisphere, so I settled for this can which was the most robust looking of the available options that were made in the USA. After 7 years this can is still working well. It holds the liners well, the lid opens easily by hand or with the foot pedal and it remains in the open position if you want. It uses standard 13 gallon liners. The lid lifting mechanism has some metal parts, it pivots easily and stays connected to the can. I won’t detail all the ways a trash container with a foot operated lid can fail, if you’ve had them I’m sure you know well enough. If you want to support a USA based business and still get a can that will last a decade or more, this one should be a good fit. I recently bought another from Amazon because they aren’t available locally anymore. The new one arrived a little deformed from shipping and the lid didn’t fully close. After a few days in a warm room it looks and works just fine. ... show more

Why on earth do they send out this out without attaching the lid? There is no easy way to do it-I did find some guidance in one of the reviews but I still can’t do it. I am very disgusted with the darn thing. I will keep trying but I just don’t think it was the manufacturers plan for us to have this much trouble. Update. Got it on. Center in first, start working th right side, hold basket between your legs and pull the lid over to the left til you get it on. Don’t pull on edge of lid. 2 family members who use rollators can use this step-on to open bin while not losing balance or having to use both hands to throw things in- cant find review of delivery situation- driver left it under a sign that says DELIVERY TO BACK DOOR ONLY and tk a pic very close to box so sign wasn’t shown
