  • I'm ready to welcome our Robot Underlords
Style: Roomba 105 Combo (y351)
We recently got this iRobot Roomba 104 vacuum and floor mopper, and it's our first experience with any type of home automation. I've got to say, I think we've been missing out, because this thing is terrific! It never occurred to me that having something like this would be such a time saver. We've set it up on a schedule so it does its thing when we're asleep or not around, and now we're waking up/coming home to freshly cleaned floors. Set up was a piece of cake--We took it out of the box, placed it in the corner of our dining room out of the way, and plugged it in. There was a piece of cardboard in the box with a QR code on it. I took a picture with my camera and it got me to the app store where I downloaded the Roomba Home app. The app guided me through the setup process, which took all of ten minutes; I created an account, connected the robot to our Wifi network (connectivity was easy), and it was ready to go. The first step was to have the robot map the first floor of my home (Sadly, it doesn't seem to be able to climb stairs--yet). It went off to do its thing, and it was actually sort of cool to watch it motor around the house figuring out where to go. Once that was done, the app had a map of my house. I took a few minutes in the app to separate the map into the specific rooms (which is very easy to do), and then I used the app to create a schedule of when the robot would clean a specific room. Now, our little robot goes about its business, keeping our floors nice and clean. We have yet to encounter any dirt it couldn't pick up, and it does it very quietly. Since it's connected to our home Wifi network, we can tell it to clean our floors from anywhere. I've used the app to get it to clean our floors while I was away just for the heck of it (and to get a rise out of the dog!) The Roomba really does a good job, and takes a tedious task off of our plate. The fact that we were able to get it on sale made this purchase an absolute no-brainer; it's a great robot at a great price. Now that we've discovered the world of automation, we're looking at other things to try. I've read that you can control the Roomba with Alexa or Siri, though we're still pretty new at this, so baby steps. ... show more

  • Cannot connect to base, discharges, loses WiFi . . . a Do Not Buy!
Style: Roomba 105 Combo (y351)
Oct 18, 2025 - iRobot Roomba 104 2in1 Vacuum & Mop Robot - Self-Empties for 75 Days Nov 03, 2025 - Too be fair - the robot did a great job vacuuming, but its tiny little bin filled up quick. Real quick. I have a German Shephard. Oct 19, 2025 Screw this. Won't dock. Discharges battery, loses setup. Auto-empty Dock does not evacuate robot bin. Total fail. Nothing in documents. Five times setup, five times lost. Good vacuum, but the software and "auto" doesn't work. I am returning. Oct 18, 2025 I am writing this as my trusty Roomba 690, which I have had for six years, is happily completing its job in the Master Bedroom. I purchased this Roomba 104 on the 9th, received it October 11th. I set it up as I have set up many robo-vacs before. I was disappointed that it had to "map" the house before it would vacuum. Seriously? It cannot vacuum and map at the same time? The map was a joke! All it mapped was the outline of my floor spaces, not in the middle. The next day was its first "work" day. It was programmed to start daily at 6am. It vacuumed a few days, but sadly, seemed to only do the "outline". Then, it could not "back up" to the charge / emptying base. Over and over, I found it at the base but discharged because it could not connect. Then, I discovered the base was not clearing out the dust bin of the vacuum! This thing does not function AT ALL as expected! Even at a 44% discount, NOT a VALUE! As many others have reported - it LOSES the WiFi! It does not start, then. I had to do a factory reset to connect to it again. BTW, why does iRobot need your phone to report the PRECISE location??? Why and what are you tracking, iRobot??? Of course, with the factory reset, it will have to map all over again, a complete waste of time! The map could be stored on the phone, in the Roomba app, but noooooo. I will give it another chance but return it at the end of the month if it fails again. ... show more

  • Surprisingly good. Highly recommend
Style: Roomba 405 Combo (g181)
I've used this vacuum for about a week now and let me tell you, its fantastic. I have cats, and the area in front of their litter box has always had some litter end up on the floor when they come out after doing their business so its an everyday thing to vacuum that area alone. I run the roomba every day before I get home from work and walk into a perfectly clean floor every time. The mop feature is tremendous and works surprisingly well. I was a little skeptical about the quality of mop the roomba could do but I was very surprised when I saw how good it actually did. I had 1 issue when setting the vacuum up, it got stuck in an endless software update and none of the trouble shooting tips worked. I eventually tried the last tip which was to remove 9 screws on the bottom of the vacuum and remove the battery to force a hard reset, which ended up working. Since then I've had no issues and really enjoy being able to come home to a clean floor every day. I wanted to update this review after having the vacuum for a little while now. I still love the vacuum, and I run it every day. I have noticed that it does not like pet hair all that much, I do find myself cleaning the pethair out of it maybe 1 time a week or so, but other than that it's great. I will take my standard vacuum and hit the areas where the pet hair seems to accumulate and that makes the vacuum much more carefree as far as cleaning the hair out of it. Overall I enjoy it, and think it's a great purchase! ... show more

  • Roomba 104 does decent job at vacuuming our vinyl plank flooring - a real time saver.
Style: Roomba 105 Combo (y351)
Overall, I am pretty happy with this Roomba. Its a pretty cool unit. It has some quirky behavior when running and doesn't seem efficient at using the map it generated but it does a pretty good job at cleaning. The rotating brush gets stuck under carpets sometimes which causes the robot to backup and/or curl the carpet up going over it. At least this one doesn't bump into everything and get stuck under furniture like the older one did. This unit returns to the base to recharge and then resumes cleaning after recharging if it didn't finish the cleaning job. The brush and the vacuum tend to push small debris onto areas already cleaned so it doesn't get everything up. Emptying the dust bit is NOISEY. My wife really dislikes that, although I like not having to empty the dust bin. We do not have pets so can't comment on pet hair. Overall, though I am pretty happy with this Roomba model. We use it in between professional house cleanings. I have not used the moping feature. It was a bit cumbersome to edit the map that was created by Roomba and it is not clear to me why it left several areas out of the map when there were no obstructions in that area, e.g. a 2ft wide strip along the sliding patio door. Perhaps the LIDAR detected the door closer than it was. Out of the box, the unit was easy to setup and get working. WiFi connectivity was easy to configure. Though I did not like the fact that so much information about you home was/or could be sent to 3rd parties. I almost returned the unit over privacy issues. Unfortunately for me, the new app for this unit doesn't control the older unit, so I have to have two apps if I want to keep the older one. However, Alexa is able to start either of the robots or both of them, which was entertaining as they bumped into each other a lot even though I waited 30 minutes before starting the second robot. I was able to get my unit to complete vacuuming in one battery charge by picking up most obstructions, turning the chairs upside down on the table, picking up shoes and small stools and most carpets, laundry baskets, waste paper baskets etc. ... show more

  • Malfunctions constantly.
Style: Roomba 105 Combo (y351)
I needed to replace my last roomba and and I was so impressed with that one I decided to stick with the irobot brand instead of the roborock I was considering. I wish I would have purchased the roborock instead. I received this roomba in October but we didn't set it up until late December as we were doing some remodeling and she had to map the house. So once we set it up it worked great for two days then it started malfunctioning. It would say "put roomba on the floor and press the power button." Now she won't even start when she is programmed to because she wants to be put on the floor when she already is on the floor. We have her on a tiled floor so no carpet under her docking station. Something that was supposed to make life easier has become a source of frustration. We programmed her to start every day at 9 because it takes her forever to clean with running back and forth to empty and recharge. She doesn't always make the charge connection correctly so she needs constant supervision and attention. We have 2 dogs and I read reviews saying she did very well on pet hair but this hasn't been the case for our rooms. She is cleaning approximately 1100 square feet and her battery really should be more extended. Over all I am not happy at all with this irobot roomba. The fact that everything has to be done through the app only is also frustrating. Pros, when this vacuum works properly she cleans in nice even rows, not missing any areas. Cons. Pretty much everything else. Also the replacement bags do not last very long and they are not cheap to replace. I wish I could get a refund but since we didn't set her up right away, I think its been too long. ... show more

  • Mislabeled and lesser product contained in box
Style: Roomba 405 Combo (g181)
Ordered a 405+. Outside packaging was right. Different product was in the box. I think Amazon was conned. Someone probably ordered a 105 and 405 and put the 105 in the 405 box and returned it as a 405 while keeping the more expensive model. Amazon never verified the contents. Reordered, got the right model. Navigation is good, vacuum function is average, edging is only so so. Spinning mop functionality is convenient but only good at maintaining a clean floor. The spinning mop head will foul on any exposed wires. The unit identifies and avoids mopping carpet very well. Water wells in central unit have to be refilled/drained after about every 3000 square feet far short of the 50 day claim. It is fairly quiet. Battery life is good as is the auto emptying of the of the vacuum ... show more

  • Smart, Hands-Free Cleaning That Truly Feels Like an Upgrade
Style: Roomba 405 Combo (g181)
he iRobot Roomba Plus 405 (G181) 2-in-1 Vacuum & Mop Robot with AutoWash Dock has completely changed how I handle cleaning at home. From the first setup, it’s clear this is a well-designed, high-end device built for convenience and performance. The combination of vacuuming and mopping in one unit makes it incredibly efficient, especially for busy households where time is limited. The vacuum performance is strong and consistent. It does a great job picking up dust, dirt, pet hair, and debris from both hard floors and carpets. You can see the difference after just one run—floors look noticeably cleaner, and it reaches areas that are easy to miss with manual cleaning. The navigation is smart and methodical, so it doesn’t just wander randomly—it actually maps and covers the space efficiently. The mopping feature is where this model really stands out. The dual spinning mop pads provide a deeper clean compared to basic drag-style mops. It actually scrubs the floor rather than just wiping it, which helps remove stuck-on dirt and leaves floors looking polished. It’s especially useful in high-traffic areas like kitchens and entryways. The AutoWash dock is a huge convenience factor. Not only does it empty the dustbin, but it also handles cleaning the mop pads, which means less maintenance and less mess for you to deal with. This truly makes it feel like a “set it and forget it” type of system. You’re not constantly having to empty, rinse, or reset everything after each use. The smart features and app integration are also very user-friendly. You can schedule cleanings, customize areas, and adjust settings right from your phone. It’s easy to set up routines, and the robot reliably follows them without needing constant supervision. It integrates nicely into a daily routine without becoming a hassle. Another thing I noticed is how quiet it is compared to older models. It’s not completely silent, but it’s definitely less intrusive, making it easier to run during the day without disrupting everything. Overall, this is a premium cleaning solution that delivers on both convenience and performance. It saves time, keeps floors consistently clean, and reduces the amount of hands-on effort needed. If you’re looking to upgrade to a smarter, more automated way of cleaning, the Roomba Plus 405 with AutoWash dock is absolutely worth it and feels like a true step forward in home cleaning technology. ... show more

  • What An Upgrade From an i7+ UPDATE DOWNGRADE TO 2 STARS What An Upgrade From an i7+ UPDATE DOWNGRADE TO 2 STARS
Style: Roomba 405 Combo (g181)
Read reviews of folks saying how loud this was, how it didn’t get things sucked up, etc, and all I gotta say is they need to have lived with a Roomba i7+ for 3 years THEN they’d know what loud was and the upgrades to this version. My home is 3 levels and our i7+ was for the bottom floor; a mixture of carpet, travertine and hardwood plank flooring. Took advantage of Prime deal to snag the 405 with its mopping ability for the trav and wood floors and relegated the i7+ to the entry level flooring (carpet/hardwood plank). 24 hours after spooling up the 405, I wish I’d have bought two to put another on the entry level and boot the i7+ to the bedroom level. The biggest difference (aside from mopping) is the LIDAR capability. The older i7+ maps by bumping into things then creating a map (of sorts). It still ran into my baseboards/furniture and I was always disappointed given it has so many damned cameras on it. I thought the cameras would prohibit this but LIDAR is a game changer. Instead of taking 20 min to map the floor, it essentially makes a pass down the middle and gets it about 90% correct. The LIDAR also keeps it from tearing up baseboards AND it perfectly aligns with the room axis. The i7+ bugged me b/c it was always oriented about 5 deg off room axis. This one nails it (axis meaning perpendicular to the wall its pointed at). The app that runs the i7+ won’t run the 405 so now I have two apps to take care of business. What’s cool about the 405 app is that it shows where the device is during its cleaning cycle and the path it traveled up to its current position. So you can see how it covers the area and makes fine tuning the room zones easier. The 405 is noticably quieter than the i7+ as well so that’s a bonus. The 405 also has 2 speeds: one for cruise when it is traversing to get from the base to the cleaning area (fast), and a slower pace for actual cleaning. I also noticed the edge brush turns a bit slower than the i7+ and no longer gets screwed in. Great use of magnets all around on the 405 (brush attachment, debris bag door closure, panel above dirt trap). The mop feature is interesting…we’ll see how it holds up over time (mechanically). The two mop pads retract whenever it believes it is going to roll over carpet during a mop event and the video kind of shows this. Where this may be a detriment is in our dining room where there is a plush rug beneath the dining table. The pads do retract, but they’re wet and still drag a bit on the light colored carpet. We’ll see long term if this room needs an exclusion zone while mopping and only vacuum the rug area when the pads are dry. Still doing handsprings over the major improvement to the i7+ and, as mentioned, now I wish I had bought 2 of ‘em. Cannot compare to other brands as this is the only brand of smartvac that we’ve owned. Wanted to stay with same brand so the consumables would be interchangeable and as it turns out, only the bag appears to be the same between the two units. Oh, and I did buy the Roomba cleaning solution as I don’t want the device ‘cleaning’ with only water. Seems to me that would just spread the dirt around. We’ll see how this unit holds up; the i7+ is going strong at 3 yrs 3 mos and counting. UPDATE Looks like I may have received one that takes the short bus to school. This piece of s*** cannot figure out how to stop trying to go thru a chair opening that is about 3/4” too narrow. Just keeps going back about a foot, then tries again…and again…and again. See last photo. What a shame. Down to 3 stars out of 5. Update 2 Well, now downgraded to 2 stars….looks like the app/robot interface is glitchy as hell. The robot somehow ‘forgot’ where it was and where to go to next and I could hear it going back and forth from my office. I opened the app and the progress feature was inop. It wouldn’t show where it was and the robot had completed one room, but failed to progress to adjacent and was just going back and forth at the transition area. I phoned for customer support (technical) and was told it would be > 30 min. I got a call back 90 min later but I was in a meeting and couldn’t pick up the call. Today, the automation was for 2 rooms but the robot proceeded to clean the entire floor instead of just two (even though the progress feature was restored after a reboot, reconnect to wifi, router restart and phone restart). Update 3 Got through to a customer service rep who could see my robot’s problems on her end (read: yes, they can see your house map/robot history/etc…guessing they can see thru any robot’s camera while they’re at it). They are sending out a new unit at no charge with a return label to send the one that came off the short bus home for diag/refurb. I will post another update after giving the new unit a chance to perform to spec. ... show more
