So, I got this because it was on sale for half off, and I couldn't pass the offer when I was already looking to get a robot vacuum. I just moved and was lamenting to a friend that I'd need to get a vacuum and actually do so. I'm disabled and that slight bend to vacuum/sweep/mop is agony. They recommended looking into a robot vacuum. Initially I was thinking a Roomba would be far out of my price range. And admittedly, this one would be without the deal I got. But I'm so happy I did. I have carpet. I saw mixed reviews on it's ability with carpet. It's been doing a fine job of it. It is a bit loud, as other reviewers have complained, but unless you want to vacuum at midnight, it's not a big deal and it's not THAT loud. It's mapping is well done. And I like being able to send it to a specific room. What's more, after a cleaning session, it shows you everywhere it vacuumed. It apparently will even tell you if it found a high dirt area, though I haven't really had any issues worth it mentioning. Emptying the bin is super easy, and I'm shocked at how much it gets. I also enjoy that it can go places I wouldn't get if I was vacuuming personally, such as under the bed. Another thing I love was this particular one came with a virtual wall. I'm very OCD and didn't want Roomba going in the bathroom. Of course I could just close the door, but this is more convenient. I also plan to get a pet soon, and the circle shaped wall will be great to go around the food/water dish to keep it from bumping into them and spilling water. The wall has two settings. Line or circle. A simple switch on the side will let you choose which. Though I'm wondering how to know when the battery is getting low. (It takes 2 AA batteries which it comes with. It also comes with a spare filter.) The app has estimated times for replacement parts. And the parts come apart pretty easily. (Roomba vacuumed up a piece of broken door stopper I didn't notice and made the most awful racket. Had to remove the rollers to get it out. Very easy process.) It also lets you know when the dust bin is getting full, though I empty it after each run. You can also activate the vacuum from anywhere with the app. Out of the house and decide you'd like Roomba to clean while your out so you don't have to listen to it, but forgot to activate it before you left? No problem. It also has the ability to pair with Alexa, but I don't use that feature. Overall, I highly recommend. If I have any complaints about how it handled pets on carpet (I definitely don't think I'd recommend letting a cat ride it on carpet. I imagine even in hardwood it's hard on the Roomba) such as not doing a great job getting fur, I'll come back and update with complaints. But so far, I highly recommend this. ... show more

    • Fails to Connect Daily
While this unit is still a better device than Neato, it has serious flaws. First off, I have hardwood floors, and the Roomba will clean around the base, pushing it all over the place and occasionally unplugging the charging base from the wall. When it's finished with cleaning, even if I put the charging base back in its original position, the Roomba will not find it half the time (I'll come home to find the Roomba dead under furniture in another room of the house). On the rare occasion it does manage to find the base and dock itself, it will not connect again the next time I need it to run. I spend 10-15 minutes EVERY TIME I WANT IT TO RUN just getting it to connect to the app, having to reboot it dozens of times before it finally connects. Contrary to what the company would like you to believe, the device WILL NOT RUN WITHOUT BEING CONNECTED TO THE APP!!!! When it works, it works great, but the pain in the ass of having to reboot the damn thing every time you want it to run is why it only gets 2 stars. If you contact customer support, no matter how many times or for what reason, their initial response is always, "This does not appear to be a warranty issue, we cannot help you." Every. Single. Time. Customer service is pretty much non-existent. EDIT: I have now dropped my rating to one star. For the past couple of months, I have had to manually place the unit back on the charging base, as it is simply unable to find it on its own. Now it has a new habit. Once on the base and halfway charged, it will turn on, back itself off the base, and sit 3" from the base while the battery drains. I have resorted to having to stack books in front of the unit to keep it on the base so it will be charged for the next time. I STRONGLY URGE YOU TO AVOID BUYING THIS DEVICE. Had this robot vacuum for couple days and quite satisfied with the results. Have used a cheaper one from another brand before which failed to impress me because it just runs around in random directions hoping all the areas will be covered eventually. Roomba's room mapping and sequential cleaning route is the gold standard to robotic vacuum. Do not waste money on one without these features. During the initial setup, the mapping option might not be available at first. It took a while to show up on the app probably due to software/firmware update. Do a room mapping first before you choose clean everywhere. It saves a lot time. I don't have pet so I don't know how well does it pick up shedding. Pros: 1. Sequential cleaning saves a lot time. Room mapping allows the robot to find the room from dock automatically. 2. You can schedule areas that needs to be cleaned weekly to have vacuuming done while away from home. 3. Pauses when human approaches which prevents accident. Cons: 1. Biggest headache is the cloud connection. When it works, it works great. When you lose connection, you have to reboot the robot. BTW, the robot only has 2.4ghz wifi so your phone needs to be on the same SSID to connect to the robot. Maybe a meshed 2.4 & 5ghz wifi also works. 2. It failed to detect one room during room mapping. Maybe it's because the dock is too close to the door so robot turns around before entering the room. Instead of remapping, I just drop the robot in room and choose clean everywhere in the app. This is not an issue to me. I am willing to deal with the spotty wifi connection for a carefree vacuuming exprience. Highly recommends this vacuum. ... show more
