I usually buy the Iris Koshihikari rice from Niigata prefecture, but it has been out of stock much of the time lately, so I decided to try the Nanatsuboshi rice from Hokkaido prefecture, and I am so glad I did! This is delicious rice! I think I like it a more than the Koshihikari even. I have hesitated to review Iris rice for a very long time for fear of a glowing review having the effect of increasing demand, lowering supply, and thus increasing prices (LOL), but this is so good I had to review it. Yes, this is quite expensive rice relatively speaking, but I eat A LOT of rice each week. I love rice, so for me, it is worth it to buy top quality rice, and this is it. I prepare rice in a Zojirushi induction heating rice cooker, and it comes out perfect every time. If you invest in top quality rice, I strongly suggest you invest in a good rice cooker, i.e. spend at least $200 on a good rice cooker because I promise you that it will be the perfect compliment to your high quality rice and give you perfectly prepared rice every time. Rice cookers are an essential appliance in most Asian homes, and rice connoisseurs do not think $200 is a lot of money to spend for a rice cooker---many cost hundreds, even thousands more. I hesitated buying a good rice cooker for several years, and now I could kick myself for having waited so long. If you eat a lot of rice, and if you love rice, then I promise you it is worth it to buy top quality rice and cook it in a better than $30-$50 rice cooker.

I honestly never had rice that is delicious. Rice that actually has a flavor so good it doesn’t need anything else but this rice is that rice. It cooks up perfectly every time. I AM SOLD! I will only buy this one from now on. It’s more expensive than others but definitely worth it. I highly recommend it. You won’t be disappointed. I use it with my kimchi fried rice.

This is my new favorite rice. I am trying to use up my other stuff at present, but I'll definitely buy more of this. It is measured into little bags which are measured exactly for two rice cooker cups. The consistency and flavor is great for anything you would use glutinous rice for. I'm looking forward to trying the other varieties as well from this brand.

The media could not be loaded. I mainly like the size, not just to minimize food waste but cleanup is simple as it's only a 4-qt bowl. It comes with dozens of recipes built in, and there's an app for it to help plan and get groceries. It has an auto-off feature as well as keep warm. I had previously a 6-qt cooker, and found I was wasting much, despite leftovers. So now, no leftovers! I sat on the fence a long time over the handful of small pressure cookers. The woodgrain touches and black metal really adds a touch of class to my kitchen as well. Very Zen LoL.

This rice is so good you really can't screw it up. It was picked last April and is good until this April 23. It's Jan 5 23 right now so. I will use this well before then. The price is high though. Costs about 4 dollars to make 3 to 4 rolls. Works out ok if you just want to make your own cheap sushi without a protein but add in "sushi grade fish" costs and you might as well just run out for some sushi. My sushi rice vinegar is 10 parts rice vinegar, 5 sugar and 1 salt. I cooked up 300g of this stuff, and had to toss the bottom layer that browned in my cooler leaving about 450 grams of cooked rice left and I added 55g of my mixture to the rice and gently folded it in for about ten minutes. Turned out awesome.
