This makes the WD-Series an ideal choice for recessed installation, premium outdoor heating applications, and spaces with 7' to 9' mounting heights and large scale coverage areas. Infratech is 90% energy efficient, UL listed for outdoor and indoor use and are easy and inexpensive to operate. This heater is ideal for use in fine homes, restaurants, hotels and more. How Infratech Works? - Heated quartz elements emit a safe, clean wavelength of light that is only absorbed by solid objects, transferring heat directly to a person, table or floor rather than heating the air. - Infrared heat doesn't 'blow away', making it ideal for breezy areas where air cannot be contained. - Medium wave quartz elements operate with no harsh glare or odors. Lasting Energy, Efficiency and Value - Easy installation requires a lower capital expense and minimal labor. - Infrared heaters require no refillable gas tanks and very little maintenance. - They are 90% energy efficient and provide energy savings over time. Note: Infratech Comfort heating products are NOT "plug in" heaters. This top-of-the-line residential heater turned my backyard into a cozy oasis! When mounted 8 ft above the ground as required by code, it covers an area of about 10 ft x 10 ft. It mainly warms the skin when it is directly exposed. Do not expect it to warm the air as much as a gas-powered heater does. The infrared heat emitted by this heater mainly warms surfaces rather than the air - without the smell of gas and without the hassle of failing igniters. The heat comes on at the flick of a switch. This Inftratech dual-element 6k Watt heater turned our once unusable outdoor covered patio into a year round paradise. Nevada winters are chilly, who woulda thought it! But now our outdoor patio is used daily for drinking coffee, having lunch, dinner, and evening cocktails. If it's windy the radiant heater is not perfect, but I knew that going into it! I am super happy with this purchase. As you consider purchasing a similar unit, bear in mind the cost of running another dedicated 240V switch, depending on where it's located it could cost upwards of 5x the cost of this heater to get installed by a licensed and certified electrician. I haven't really seen a large increase in the utility costs to run this heater, online articles say its pennies per hour, but not 100% sure. ... show more

    • Twice the wattage is not twice the heat

I previously bought 2 Infratech 3000 watt heaters and liked them but they were not quite enough for my 9 foot high patio. I upgraded to two 6000 watt models. Honestly they produce not much more heat than the 3000 watt models. I have an older 6000 watt at my cabin and I feel it put off more heat but I have no way to compare them. After 2 electricians checked the wiring and one placed a call to product support I have to accept these 6000 watt options are also not enough for a 16 by 16 foot patio in north Louisiana. I think I would have been better off getting two more 3000 watt models. I have the smaller units mounted in a different spot now and can see both models run at the same time. The elements get much brighter orange on the smaller ones.... product support told us the brightness of the elements does not have anything to do with heat output. Whatever the technical explanation the large ones are at best only slightly warmer than the smaller models and at twice the energy use not my best solution. I like the 3000 watt models, but I am disappointed the 6000 watt are not twice as productive. ... show more

Four stars instead of five because it’s too warm at times Mounted on our covered patio. I was concerned it wouldn’t be warm enough, but in fact it’s too warm. We had to have a 220 V additional dedicated electric outlet added by an electrician. Please check on controllers. We have not come up with a solution for controlling the amount of heat. At times it gets too warm, and we just have to turn it off. Hoping we can have an adjustable high/low heat setting. we called Infratech and they do not sell a controller with the capacity to control the heat output on this particular 6000 W heater. We probably could have gotten a lesser wattage unit with controllable heat output. ... show more

This is a awesome item...if you are electrically inclined to do so...however you will need to run #10 thhn wire...use Leviton 5622-2W 20-Amp switch
