I suppose we purchased this heater for the same reason many others have: it looks nicer than a big industrial looking commercial type. Our patio is relatively small and this fits in nicely. It only took an hour and fifteen minutes to assemble, with 15 of those minutes spent decoding the instructions but they weren't the worst I've ever come across. I just hope the Chinese military gives clearer instructions to those who handle their nuclear arsenal. First night on the patio I was dissatisfied. Despite what others had written I was sure it would provide more HEAT. However, in the evenings since, I have learned to appreciate the glow of WARMTH that it emits, up to 4-5 feet. (My wife says its more than that but she's not writing this). Obviously, the closer you are the more warmth one feels. Together with our fire pit we feel we're in good shape. We don't plan on being outside when the temperatures dip into the 30's. On a crisp/chilly evening it does the trick and I'm giving it my blessing. ... show more

time will tell. The Bad: 1: NO assembly instructions. It was not too hard to figure out. But for some people it might be tough. Two people would make it easier to put together. I did it by myself by leaning the unit upside down into the corner of the room with carpeted floor to protect the top. Minimally the drawing they supply could be better. 2: There is no grab point or handle on it to move it around easily once it's assembled. It's heavy. 3: It's expensive. The Good: 1: It is well made as it should be for the price. 2: Operation is smooth and quite. 3: I haven't had a chance to use it on cool night yet. It seems to kick out a decent amount of heat. So hopefully the heating element is of good quality. I'll report back when I have used it some more... ... show more

I just finished set up for the SLOHT42 outdoor heater and itโ€™s doing a fine job keeping me warm on my deck. You have to sit within 5 ft of it to feel the warmth. Set iup was easy after I read the Amazon review titled Tips on Assembly so definitely check that out. It was very helpful in getting the correct screws in place. This is taller than I realized when I bought it!โ€ฆ almost 5 feet so it gives great coverage! Super warm, just right for our patio. The instructions were not great. It uses drawings and there are 4 different screw sizes but it doesnโ€™t tell you which size to use for each piece. Each pair of screws is a very different size so I figured it out from the drawings. Now that I have put the heater together, it works quite well. The heater has 3 levels of heat and it oscillates. I bought 2 heaters and the remote will change the settings on both heaters. The only issue is that it took me hours to put the heater together. The problems is that there are 5 different types of screws. The User Manual shows a picture of where the screws go, but it does not indicate which screws go where. I called for help and the person who answered said that I would get an email regarding my problem. I received an email an hour later with the same picture that appears in the User Manual. Once I tried all 5 screw types in each area, I was able to put the heater together and the process for my second heater was much easier. ... show more

Looks great, heats quickly and evenly. As others said, the instructions left a lot (mainly, labeling of the screws) to be desired, but assembly wasn't actually that bad. You'll need two AAA batteries and a screwdriver (not included). I'd recommend laying it horizontally across two chairs to assemble rather than upside down, and have a second person handy to hold the weighted base in place while you screw it on. Also, tips on the screws/bolts: the black ones go with the black plastic cover at the top. There are 4 sets of silver bolts for the base. The very short wide silver bolts go on first to attach the first small plate. Save the long skinny silver pair for last. You'll be left with two sets of larger silver bolts, one slightly longer than the other. Use the shorter of these two next, to attach the black bar to the first plate. Then use the longest of the large bolts and the two washers to attach the weighted bottom plate. Finally use the long skinny silver bolts to attach the small plastic "camping board" that holds the electrical cord in place. Also make sure to remove the foam pieces that are cushioning the glass bulb inside before turning it on! If any of them arrive stuck inside the metal grate (second picture), I found a pair of tweezers did the trick to finangle it out. All in a high quality heater that looks great, with a small footprint. Just what I was looking for. ... show more
