Works great as a shock treatment without a doubt, 5 stars for the actual treatment part. But be careful of the granules. I didn't think (I usually buy the finer powder), and scattered my 1lb around the pool as normal, and went on my merry way. In the morning I saw where it touched/settled on the pool floor, the floor went black. It was a pretty permanent stain, that lasted months. I now feed slowly through my skimmer instead of pouring directly in, and only get occasional staining. Works well though, I wouldn't use less hyperchlorate % than this, and I like the brand, quality is consistent as is the product. I do prefer the powder version though honestly.
