  • Great except network difficulties with no USB scan option
Style: MF269dw Laser Printer
Love this printer when it works across the network - I have it set up to save to a shared print folder. Note that I also tried a couple of other options. When it successfully scans to the print folder it's awesome. When it does not (seemingly randomly)... it's very frustrating because it does not provide any way to scan to a USB (for instance) as kind of a super easy reliable alternative. So that can be frustrating. In all other ways this does everything I want very well. ... show more

  • Easy setup, great prints, very good scans
Style: MF269dw Laser Printer
I previously had an HP M1212nf home office multi-function laser printer, and it served me well for almost 6 years before a paper jam wound up irreparably damaging one of the rollers. That HP was a solid printer, with one exception: the auto-feed scanner never worked right, so I'd wind up having to manual-feed any scans that I needed to do, and then stitch the result together with PDF software. Luckily I never had to do it very often, but it was always a pain. This Canon MF269dw has just as good of prints and scans as that HP, with the added bonus that the auto-feed works flawlessly. I can put a half dozen sheets into the hopper, and it'll scan all of them and bundle them in to one PDF with the included software. If you follow the instructions, the setup is painless in Windows 10. I saw some complaints, but I'm guessing those users didn't follow the instructions--you need to install the software first before plugging in (for wired) or turning on (for wireless) the printer. I have it hooked up to my router with a CAT5 cable, and it works flawlessly on all of my desktop and laptop computers (it claims you can print from your phone, but I have not tried that). It's a fairly large machine, and is half-again as tall as the old HP, but it only takes up about the same footprint. The interesting thing about it is that the paper tray is internal rather than sticking out the side, so it actually looks like it takes up more room since it's roughly a 15" black cube sitting on your desk. In practice though, the HP took up just as much room--the printer only had a 10" or so footprint, but then the paper tray stuck out another 5-6" from the front anyway. Kind of either/or, but one benefit of the internal paper tray is that it's protected from dust (my printer sits next to a window that's pretty much always open in the spring and fall so there's a lot of that). Over all I'm happy with the purchase. Hopefully it lasts as long as the HP did. It's a little pricy, but if you do a fair amount of black-and-white printing then I think it's worth it. ... show more

  • Great printer if you can get the network or Airport function to work, and stay working.
Style: MF269dw Laser Printer
I love the printer; I just wish I could use it. I had a canon MFC prior to this which was a nice printer. It was about 6 years old so I decided to replace it. I would expect the newer printer to be better and in some respects it is better. For instance, it has support for Airpint, which is the ability to print directly from an iPhone or iPad, but damn Apple for having to have a seperate protocol that requires an AirPrint in the first place. However, the network setup, which I would have expected to improve in 6 years, has not only not improved, it has gotten worse. I am mad about it and if a Canon representative sees this by chance, they should do something to fix the problem because its absurd. I have been able to print from it on three occasions after spending over an hour each time trying to get the wireless to work. Today, I spent 2 or more hours working on it, only to get it to print, and then when I went to use AirPrint it isn’t working. I can’t think of any rational excuse for a printer having this much difficulty with connections. I finally set it up in the router configuration as a static IP, so now the printer is workign from windows, but now airprint won’t work. I am very angry about it as I’m a graduate student who wants to spend my day studying and not learning to be a systems administrator for a network because of a printer that doesn’t easily configure its own setup, and the instructions when you seek help from the manufacturerer are absurd. If you go to the wireless help section it gives you the exact same instructions as the installation program that you download (or for some copy from CD). Are you joking? Network printing problems—Try the default setup instructions? That isn’t problem solving for if the damn program worked, I wouldn’t be looking for network printing support. Fix it Canon so I can change this review to a positive one. I’m a very unhappy customer right now. Update: It’s a month later and I’m still having trouble with the networking, Windows and AirPrint. I’ve never had so much trouble with a network printer before. I am mystified and still looking for a solution. Ultimately, I may have to return it otherwise. I will update if I ever find a solution. Another update: I raised my review by one star. I still think that the network problems that I faced were absurd in this day and age , but for now, I think it is working. May 6 2019 ... show more

  • What we were looking for
Style: MF269dw Laser Printer
As with most printers nowadays, setting this up was a bit of a headache, even for this tech saavy person. We set it up from a PC laptop via USB. Downloaded the current software from Canon.com. That was ok. However, the manual says nothing on how to set it up for wireless printing. Had to go to Youtube for that. The menu readout on the printer is touchscreen. Most of what you need to do is on there. The software to download wasn't much help however I figure it added drivers for Windows. Just do a web search for "setting up wireless on Canon MF260 models." Pretty straightforward from there. After you get the printer on your wireless network, to print wireless from iPhone we had to install the Canon For Business app. The app they describe in the manual does not exist anymore. Once that's installed had no problem printing from email or the web. 4 Stars as I do love all the features of this printer. Exactly what we needed and probably a bit more. Dock 1 star for lame setup. By now this should be easier for most brands. A little patience and you'll be printing! ... show more
