This printer is a win from HP. I have been an Instant Ink subscriber for well over 7 years now (with the same medium-use HP printer!) Because of a lightning strike/power outtage I kept getting a bad printhead warning on the screen and decided it was time for an upgrade. Found this one with the free year (and $100 off!) up to 700 pages/mo and thought that had to be for new subscribers only but it's not! After 7+ years I get a free year of ink! I subscribe to their paper as well so I synced that up for the year and I'm good to go. Before Instant Ink half the time I couldn't afford Ink in my printer, or would only buy black. I killed one printer I bought once with off-label ink- I still remember the awful noises it made. Then I discovered HP and Instant Ink. Now I print freely - all I want and they send me supplies as needed. Anyways- the printer. It took less than 3 minutes to set up with the on-screen guide the walks you through. You need your WiFi name and password and maybe a couple other simple pieces of information. The app on your phone (recommended) makes it easy to print from your Drive, etc. It has its own email address so you can send docs while you're away from home and they'll be waiting for you when you arrive (you can change the beginning to something simple to remember.) I struggle to set up printers on computers, etc but this one literally did it for itself. I almost expect it to have my coffee waiting for me one morning it's so intuitive, lol. You won't be disappointed with this printer! Give the Instant Ink a try while you're at it- you'll wonder how you ever lived without it. ... show more

    • Setup can be easy for some

Ah HP. My love/hate relationship. So, I got the new 8030e printer today. It went fairly well for setup. For some reason any time I wanted to set up this printer on any of my devices on the network, the automatic scan feature did not detect the printer. So, a quick piece of advice: If you're attempting to set up the printer on your network, go to the touch screen of the printer after its initial setup and note the IP address. Then when you go to your various devices and computers in your home that you'll want to print to this printer from, and the setup says it can't find your printer, just search manually with that IP address and it will come right up. The next thing to know is the print cartridges on this printer are pretty small. If you're going to be doing a lot of printing, you're going to go through the cartridges fairly quickly. I did a couple test prints that happened to have blue in it and already the cyan cartridge is registering the ink level to be lower than full. I don't know this for a fact, yet, but if you decide to buy refilled cartridges, you might have less than perfect results, or the printer will not detect the cartridges as being legit HP and may not accept them as being installed. Just be aware of this. That said, I still can't figure out why my iPhone detects the printer yet my wife's does not. Again, love/hate. Once you get the printer set up, you'll find it's quiet and prints nice pages. The color looks good, dark and crisp. It's not going to be the fastest printer in the world. But it does the job at a fair price. ... show more

    • Paper tray is very flimsy and afraid it may break.

The quality of the printing is top notch. I dislike the paper tray's flimsiness and am afraid that it certainly will the part that does not hold up. Additionally within tray for smaller papers like 4 x 6 the clamps do not keep the paper from feeding evenly or properly.

    • Instant ink is a good deal if you don’t try to fight it

Some people rage against HP’s Instant Ink subscription service, but I think it’s a good deal if you understand it and don’t try to work against it. Instant Ink is a service which promises to ensure you never run out of ink for your printer. It does require you sign up for the service, and it does require your printer be connected to the Internet so the service knows how quickly you are going through ink. If those are dealbreakers for you, this printer is probably not for you. But if you’re willing to do that, the convenience of replacement ink just showing up in the mail is well worth it, and overall you will save money compared to buying ink cartridges at the store. (Plus this printer comes with a full year of Instant Ink service prepaid which is a fantastic deal.) The ink cartridges that come with the printer are low capacity and are meant to be a starter for the instant ink service. If you intend to buy cartridges directly instead of using instant ink, you will need to replace these starter cartridges very soon after getting the printer set up. By the way, it’s a good idea to make sure your printer doesn’t go more than a few days without use. Ink jet cartridges and print heads tends to dry out and clog if left unused for a while. Keeping the ink flowing even just a little bit will help your printer last longer. ... show more

I bought the previous generation of this printer, which I like. But this one is a big improvement. It’s more compact and works like a charm. The app has a great photo scan for on the go. Easy to print from phone, iPad and laptop. I love It.

This printer is fantastic for now. The installation was tricky, but I am a tech guy, so it was okay. The reason for the five starts is the great deal I got when I bought the printer with one year of free ink for up to 700 pages per month. That is awesome.
