I did a lot of research for a laserjet that would work for my mothers ipad. It had to be simple and reliable. It needs to be fairly small as she travels to her winter home often. I could not find one that definitely fit this based on descriptions. I purchased this one based on some weak indications it would work. I can report it works quite well for iOS devices. It has a couple of ways to print, direct printing via wireless when on the same wifi network, and eprint. Eprint is a free service HP offers which gives you a customizable email address to send an email to. The server auto sends the email to the printer when on and connected to a wifi network. This is very handy when out and about and you want to print something for later review. The server will hold emails for 30 days before discarding. Installation was very simple, the enclosed cd was not needed. Once the unit was powered up and USB plugged into a computer it started to auto install. Based on some reviews I read I selected the first option to have it installed for wireless operation. Once install is complete I printed out the settings sheet. This is important as it has the IP address of the printer. You need it to change settings. It can be printed later if needed however. Unplug the printer and test the computers wireless printing capability. Once installation is complete it will ask to set up an eprint account. I recommend it. It is useful. Put the IP address into a web browser and go to settings. Here you can make any adjustments you need and change the eprint email address. Once set up you can test the iOS printing capability. Any app that has a printer option in the action menu should see the printer. Again you can email anything to the printer if no printer ability exists. If you have trouble with inkjet printers clogging from non use or are tired of paying $7000/gallon for ink. This little printer seems to be a very good solution.

Update: If you program this printer as a wireless and latter want to use the USB connection you will not be able to do it. Since it is a small and compatible printer I want to share it with my Surface Tablet and upstairs computer but also be able to use it at my office. I had to reprogram it after installing it as a wireless to work with a USB connection. It seems it can be a wireless or a used with a USB connection. The DVD that comes with the printer works well and is easy to understand. You can set the settings through the USB connection. Original feedback, The printer works great, a absolutely wonderful deal if you can get it installed. I have it working wonderfully with the Microsoft Surface RT. However you might want to take the instructions provided with the printer and burn them. They do however have a great PDF manual on line from HP. I went to the control panel and through the add printer got the printer to finally install. The device settings were HP setting plus the driver name; HP LaserJet Mono PCLmS Class Driver. Several Amazon user feedbacks gave instructions how they installed the printer but there results didn't match what was actually happening on my Surface RT. You can tell it is installed correctly by running a test page.

Good price, prompt shipping and as described. After forty something years working with computers and printers, I learned a few things about Hewlett Packard. Keep it clean, dust is an enemy, use only new cartridges, and it's really the one thing about printers and it's really quite simple. Re-built, re-filled , re-stocked, re-anything cartridges is not a good idea I don't care how cheap they are. Contaminate the printer with toner dust and you never get it clean. A game of chance. Especially the Laser Jet Series from Hewlett Packard. And any of the Epson head in inkjet printers. Save a few dollars on a cartridge and lose the printer, makes no sense. I fix these things...I used three of them tom create new invoicing stations for a customer. The price, shipping and getting what was ordered was spot on. Yes the negatives were true, it is slightly noisy, but one half the size of the machines it replaced and ONE TENTH the price. Capacity of 1600 sheets is acceptable and the toners are quite reasonable. Other than paper thats all you need. Setup was nothing, took about two minutes and worked perfect right out of the box. One of my clients In one week lost a HP color printer to three out of four cartridges that leaked out and contaminated the machine, and two B&W printers in an attorney's office with cartridges that dirtied the paperwork. The same series, (the 4000) a printer I own an HP 4100 circa 2002 has 212,000 prints runs like new because it has never had rebuilt toners, gets cleaned, replaced on simple parts and prints like new. The price was right, the shipping on time and works as needed for a budget priced printer cartridge.
