  • Requires HP Account?
Model: HP+, M209dwe
Setup requires an account through HP's new app. They wanted a ridiculous amount of network access and personal information, and a commitment to buy supplies only through HP. It's a $150 printer. I just wanted to plug it in to a desktop and print stuff. Returning it and choosing a different brand.

  • A privacy nightmare
Model: HP+, M209dwe
Requires an hp account, constant internet connection for drm, and doesn't work with after market ink.

  • QUALITY
Model: M209dw
I am 75 years old and electronic gadgets (printers) don't usually like me. I plugged in a USB cable between my computer and the printer and plugged the power cord in. All of a sudden a message appears on my screen . . . INSTALLED. What? It scared me, it's so much smarter than I am. And it works!

  • Extortion by any other name...
Model: HP+, M209dwe
Setup is a nightmare that starts with odd button combinations and ends with a forced HP account setup that, if you skip, prevents you from using the printer. Also, STOP TRYING TO SELL ME INK IN THE MAIL, HP. Edit: Follow-up. Client has had to reconnect this printer numerous times over the past two months and now it simply won't work at all. Connected to network/Internet, but computers can't find it. Two IT consultants spent hours attempting to connect, no go. A call to HP Support produced no results. This printer is a disaster. HP has become a bottom-of-the-barrel company. Going to replace it with literally any other brand. This office will no longer be purchasing Hewlett-Packard. ... show more

  • buy a real printer like a m404
Model: HP+, M209dwe
nothing about the limited docs remotely provided what is needed to connect this printer. with no display, you have only a couple buttons and some lights to decipher why it is not connected. to do ANY config, you have to download the HP smart app and use it to try and find your printer. after 2 hours, I gave up and call the support number in the box. I was ask to connect a USB cable, when there is no port. Next I was told to reset the wireless on the printer and wait 2 hours... yes, 2 hours to allow the printer to find and auto connect. I wanted to use the actual ethernet port and a wired connection, but NEVER found any way to do that. It would never obtain an IP address. Finally gave up, packed it up and returned. bought an m404 and had it up and running in less than 15 min. If you enjoy painful customer service experiences, this is the printer for you. Otherwise, pay the extra $100 and get a real printer. ... show more

  • Worst printer ever
Model: HP+, M209dwe
This is the worst printer I have ever had. Setup is terrible and printer prints light. I don't like have to have an app or join this and that and give all kinds of information to do so. Then your cartridge deal is not good either. Who prints 1500 copies a month, especially with this printer. Every time I try to print something, it doesn't print so I have to go unplug it and plug it back in and then 2 sheets of useless paper prints that I did not ask for. It is terrible but I have waited too long to return it. Do Not Buy This Printer. ... show more

  • Will not print without constant internet connectivity
Model: HP+, M209dwe
Got this for my son in college to use in his dorm room. I started to use the HP Smart app to set up - and when I got to the point where it was asking to connect an account I bailed out. Surely this is optional I figured... It has a USB port on it - with a sticker covering it (to discourage USB printing ?). However USB connection did work and he was able to print a test page. We said our goodbyes (this was move-in day) and headed home. He called us a few days later saying that it wouldn't print at all. I went back down to his dorm - and sure enough it refused to print complaining that "setup was incomplete". My solution was to buy him a small Brother non-wifi laser printer - and this works perfect. I sold this HP on Craigslist (at a big loss of course). There was even a Reddit thread recently on one of the IT subs ranting on this. It seems that new HP models that have 'e' in the model number are subject to this behavior. So exercise caution in buying those models if this is an issue for you. ... show more

  • Awesome Laser Printer
Model: M209dw
Massive upgrade by miles from my old HP Laserjet p1102w. I never would have replaced my old one until it lost WiFi connection upon upgrading my modem. Old one has single band wireless connectivity and USB. That’s it. If you run into connectivity issues, all you can do is connect via USB and try to reconfigure its network connectivity via its built in web interface that totally sucks. Spent two nights attempting to reconnect it with no success. With this new printer, setting it up just took me 10 minutes, including the unboxing steps. Now I got faster printing that prints double-sided, dual band wireless 802.11b/g/n with Bluetooth, Ethernet connectivity (if needed), and USB. Totally worth the upgrade because of the new features I gained and how easier it is to set up. Highly recommend it for home office use. ... show more
