  • This is a beefy machine!
Style: 7.4 AT
This is a great machine and the company has amazing customer support! This is my 4th treadmill in 37 years. I paid twice as much as I did for my last machine but after researching for 2 years I was very confident that the Horizon would meet my needs for a long time. The box arrived in rough shape but the packaging was very strong. I assembled by myself with no problem, just needed my wife to hold part of the console while I fit it. There were a few problems with the treadmill, probably caused by rough shipping but when I contacted Johnson Fitness they immediately shipped out replacement parts and arranged for a tech to install them. I wanted a treadmill with a powerful motor, long and wide belt and with a strong frame that can stand up to the thousands of miles I’ll put on it. I don’t need a. “smart” machine with bells and whistles and subscription type apps that I won’t use. I either watch YouTube or run with Zwift which is very easy to connect to using my phone. I use a y adapter and hdmi cable to connect to a tv to watch. Bottom line I Strongly recommend this treadmill. ... show more

  • Solid Treadmill, one minor shipping problem but hopefully resolved in 15-30 days
Style: 7.4 AT
I just finished putting this treadmill together. It was simple enough to put together with really only 4 steps. You will probably need someone to help you with the console when putting that one but other than that its a one person job if you can lift 50lb easily. The treadmill when received looked fine, after pulling everything out I found the pallet on the bottom broke from probably being lifted. I never saw that on delivery. But the pallet ended up pushing into my console and cracking it. I called Horizon and though the console is on back order until end of November, it doesn't sound like any issue getting a new one. Horizon also offered to send out someone to install it but its only a few screws and maybe 30 minutes top of work. I read other reviews that they had a broken console issue as well. I think its partially the shippers fault but you could also put some blame on horizon I guess based on the placement of where the console is and the padding around it. For a 340lb treadmill I think overall they did a good job packaging it, its just part of the shipping game. As said above this is a 340lb treadmill so when you get it if you live in an apartment or a place without a garage make sure to have someone there with you and so lifting straps and a dolly if possible. My shipper brought it right into my garage and then me and another guy lifted it first with a dolly then down stairs with lifting straps. I wish these treadmills came in seperate boxes one for the console, one for the motor, and one for the frame. Not even sure if that's possible but would make moving it so much more easier. The trick when putting it all together is keeping everything lose, don't tighten anything down until the end. Everything fits snug so to make it easier to put things together its good when there is a little give. Horizon gives you all the tools to put it together the only thing extra you need is a pair of scissors and a spot to put all the cardboard and wood for packing (there is a ton). After putting it all together I was able to move the treadmill with some ease. This thing is a beast and when folded up you can lean it back and use the wheels to move it around you just have to make sure you have wide enough area. If I could change one thing with maneuverability it would be to add larger wheels. It does move I just think bigger wheels might help a little more for moving on carpet. After getting it situated I had know problem loosening the belt and lubricating it. They include a bottle which you have to use half a bottle every 150 miles. After lubrication the treadmill ran smooth, I ran a quick mile and had no issues. I haven't messed with any more features but after I get my new console I will update my review with things I have learned. ... show more

  • Rust Out of the Box and No Response from Support
Style: 7.4 AT
Let me start with this. I write very few reviews on Amazon. If you look at my past reviews, I don’t think I’ve written any. Almost all of my Amazon orders have arrived as expected, and if I’ve ever had an issue, I’ve contacted the company or Amazon and it’s usually been resolved in a timely manner. This is the first product I’ve ever had a negative experience with. First, my family runs a lot. So I started searching for a decent at-home treadmill that would be close to an industrial standard, but not cost $6,000. I found a couple options and ended up picking Horizon because I liked the dial controls and the simplicity of the screen/monitor setup. I don’t use any fancy programs, I just wanted something I could run on, do intervals, and have a simple display. Full disclosure, the treadmill does do those things. It met all my expectations in that regard. My issue started when it was delivered. While putting it together, I found that the frame had rust all over it. I still assembled it to test it and decide whether I wanted a full refund or a replacement. I assume it sat in storage for some time, because the rust was significant and the deck was extremely dry. Even after using the full bottle of included lubricant, I couldn’t get it lubricated enough to function properly. It would not go over 3 mph, and the belt would heat up and eventually stop after about 5 minutes. Realizing this was clearly defective, I emailed the company asking for next steps. After receiving an automated “we got your message” email, I waited a couple of days with no response. I then called the company and was told it can take several weeks to respond to emails and process returns. At that point, I was very frustrated and started reading Amazon reviews to see what others experienced. I found that many people had similar complaints, but were able to get help through Amazon. So I went that route. There’s a lot I could say about that process. Amazon made several mistakes and even gave me incorrect information at times, but in the end, they made it right and provided credits to my account, so I won’t go into all the details. I decided to try a replacement to give Horizon another chance, thinking maybe I just got a bad unit. Amazon did get me a replacement in a reasonable timeframe. Unfortunately, when I unboxed the second one, it also had some rust, although it was much better than the first. I was able to assemble it, properly lubricate it, and actually use it. I’ve been using it for a while now, and it seems decent, so I decided to keep it and accept a partial refund (through Amazon). WITH THAT SAID, when I received the replacement, I noticed some major differences. In several areas, it was clear they had swapped out metal components for lower-quality materials. For example, the feet on the first (heavily rusted) unit were steel and encased in hard rubber. The replacement had brass feet with a cheap pad on the bottom that tore off when moving the deck. That’s just one of several differences I noticed. My overall impression is that Horizon originally made a good treadmill that received strong reviews, then started cutting corners to reduce costs while continuing to benefit from those earlier positive reviews. The core components, the deck, belt, and motor, seem to still be solid, but many of the smaller parts feel cheaper and lower quality. If I could go back, I would have purchased a competing treadmill instead of this one. It seems like they’ve lost their way, at least with this model. Oh, and for what it’s worth, the entire process, from receiving the first unit to finally having a functional one, took over a month. I’m also still waiting on a response to that original email from the company. Their support is essentially nonexistent, and they don’t seem to care about their customers. ... show more
