Just put it up, so the initial impression is that this is a nice fan. First time hooking it up, it worked as advertised. The instructions are pretty clear and I had no problem understanding them. The light is bright and the remote works good. There is little to no delay from the pressing of a button to it’s response. It’s a good looking fan, too. This is a heavy fan and you should really have a hard point to hang this from. The cable that is attached is good for a safety measure in case the hanging point fails. This thing pushed AIR MAN! Holy smokes! If you need a cheap and ineffective fan, like the one we replaces with this one, then don't get this one. If you need a fan that works well, what cools you off on a warm summer night, get this one. My only hiccup was the fact that the battery that it needs is REALLY weird. I had never seen one before, and did not know if it was gonna even be available in stores. I found one at Albertsons (a USA national chain of grocery and household goods store-kind-of-a-place)... Anyhoo... This was one of the easiest things I've been able to with the help of me and my son to assist. We used two 6' ladders to do the whole thing. First we turned off the circuit breaker outside. DO NOT TRY TO SKIP THIS STEP!!! Then we unscrewed the old fan in place and replaced the mounting bracket, (which you NEED to replace due to a little piece that helps the whole thing not come off and kill someone...) and then wire up the wires according to the manual... it was super easy. My ONLY frustration was that the only way to control the fan was to use the remote and the battery that it came with, was DEAD. For a few hours we thought we had gotten a broken fan... but it was just a battery issue. Once we got it replaces--- it was all good. We've had the fan for just over a month, and absolutely LOVE it. If you are looking for a quiet and quite beautiful fan, this is the one! Oh... and we discovered if you hold the light button on the remote, it will cause the light to dim or grow brighter... so that's cool! ... show more

After installing a 54in fan in my great room, and being very unhappy with how it looked - I went searching for something more....significant. This fan is fantastic for a larger family room. It fills the space, and looks classy. It kind of bridges a gap of "modern farmhouse". My only real complaint (after installation), is that the fan has a slightly above average hum from the motor. Maybe its due to the size. Install - it was actually pretty easy as fans go. My only complaint was that the remote receiver isn't integrated into the fan itself. You have to kind of shove it in above the mounting bracket...it just feels dumb. Also - the listing shows "close mount/flush mount" as an option - but its says explicitly in the instructions that this fan CANNOT be flush mount. Looking at the parts and pieces (compared to other flush mount fans I have), I agree with the instructions. This fan cannot be flush mounted. ... show more

    • A nice fan but it doesn't move as much air as my older Hampton did. One missing part.

First, this is a high-quality fan. I did have a Hampton Bay before and the internal transceiver died. Hampton Bay didn't have a replacement part, so scrap one fan. I was looking for an upgrade and this Xerces model is what I chose. The Pros. It's whisper quiet, easy to install, and has a nice finish to it. The remote takes some getting used to but it's compact and 1/4 the size of my old fan remote. The transceiver is also a separate unit and can be replaced without taking the fan down, which means a failure-prone area of these newer ceiling fans is avoided and I can just order up the parts to fix it. The light is fully dimmable The Cons. I had a missing part, the piece that goes down over the mounting pole to the top of the fan. The fan puts out about 75% on high that my old Hampton Bay did. I also have fiddled with the balance at high speed but I still have a little oscillation in it. That means I'll have to get some small weights to get it to be dead still. It's not a big oscillation may be less than 1/4 inch? Overall I'm happy with it and it was a good value for the money. ... show more
