Started malfunctioning after warranty expiration, contacted company and they immediately sent a replacement. The replacement had some malfunction as well, and so they sent yet another replacement and didn’t require me to return the first. Excellent customer service and a very good product.

The good: very good sensor detection. It is so convenient to just wave your hand in front of the sensor, and the lid opens. The feature of manually opening the lid by touching the open button is nice as it keeps the lid open for a longer period of time. The bad: If operating on batteries, you will be putting a set in about every 3 weeks for alkaline C cells. We switched to using NiMH batteries, which last about two weeks with the downside of a slower lid opening (like when the alkaline cells were getting low. If we were able to use the can with the supplied AC adapter, I would have given it a 5 stars, but we don't have an outlet near where we want the can. If it had a provision for a 5th battery if using NiMH, that would have solved the reduced performance on rechargables. We have owned the can for over 2 years, no other issues.

UPDATE: I am updating from 4 to 5 stars. After about 18 months, the auto-sensor control started malfunctioning. The lid returned to the open position (instead of parked position "closed") and stayed open. Unplugging, turning on-off, manual close button did not fix--it always returned to open. I called HomeLabs and within 5 minutes without a lot of fuss, they honored the 2 year warranty and are sending a complete new unit. Never forget the value of customer service! Original Review: Stainless is of good quality, moving parts and sensor works fine. Even after a year, we are a little confused on the length of time the top stays open. More than once, I've thrown garbage on it just as it snaps closed. (Yes, there are countdown lights but somehow it's tricked me more than once.) A few tips: 1. Definitely get 18 gallon or bigger bags. It says 13 gallon size but you'll have to fight with it to force them on. Buy 18+ gallon size bags. (We have some trouble finding the larger size in our local supermarkets and even big box stores.) 2. I see some complaints that sensor requires you to be within 3-4 inches. I have a 3 year old grandson and a 125 lb Great Dane. The boy likes to watch it open and close and the dog triggers it if he walks too close. So for me, I don't want the sensor to be more sensitive at a greater distance. 3. We originally had the can under a center island counter overhang where there was no electrical outlet. It was pretty well hidden but when open, the flaps under the under counter top restricted access so we moved it against a wall. 4. When we moved it (as above) to a spot more convenient, there happened to be an electrical outlet right behind it. The sensor sensitivity seems to weaken and it also opens and closes sluggishly as the batteries drain. If you plan on placing the can convenient to an outlet, you might want the AC adapter. It takes 4 C cells -- we replace about 3-4 months and are now ordering the adapter.

I recently opened this item from a new box just to find that it doesn’t work. When plugged in, I noticed a burning smell coming from the touch panel. I contacted both Amazon and the manufacturer and thankfully Amazon was able to refund my money immediately. The manufacturer stated they could not assist due to Amazon refund and I asked for a link to purchase any spare parts to avoid this new bin becoming an environmental waste. They simply stated they could assist as the warranty was now voided on a brand NEW item! Avoid this purchase at all cost as this company clearly doesn’t care about their products reputation or their environmental footprint! Do NOT buy! And thank you Amazon for providing better service.

This is perfect size for our small bathroom, the butterfly door no longer banged against the toilet paper like our last trash can, and the opening is fast and quiet. The arms for holding the our oversized (4-gallon) trash bag is a bit tricky to keep the bag folding in the middle, but after some fitness it held fine. So far it is a great little trash can.

At first I absolutely loved the looks of this garbage can. I like that I can hide the garbage bag. I had one problem with the lid not working unless my hand was practically on top of the sensor. I decided to email the company and tell them about my problem. They emailed me back very quickly and my problem was fixed. They are an exceptional company and a five star review is just not enough. I wish they could give lessons to other companies on how to treat and respect people that use their business. Anyway, the garbage can now works perfectly and I would definitely recommend buying it.

I have two of these trash cans. PROs: Great swivel of changing the position of the sensor. Nice size. Excellent AC adapter included as an option. CONs: Expensive. VERY easy to get food around the lid from splatter, crumbs, etc. in the crevices of the frame around the lid. CANNOT wipe with a Lysol wipe to get such food off because it will rub off the paint on the lid. Lid and inside bag holder is cheap plastic feeling. It is VERY annoying to put a new bag in because it has an additional black holder with two clamps that broke off BOTH of my trash cans. Opening and closing of the lid automatically is very loud especially at night in a quiet house. More than once the lid has gotten stuck open and stayed or didn’t even open even though the sensor was lit up like it did. Overall the cons far outweighs the pros especially given the price point.
