  • Looks cool, build quality could use a bit of work
Color: Black
Wife got this for me as a V-day present at $180 shipped from another online vendor. Packaging is fine, that other reviewer needs to get a clue. Everything is separately boxed inside the main box, styrofoam blocks keeping things from moving. Nothing was damaged upon unboxing it. Pros: - Very large. It has a presence - Flame tube looks sweet. - Pretty inexpensive for how big it is - Door magnet seems to hold pretty well, glass tube seems to be in there pretty solidly Cons: - 4 different screw holes were badly threaded, as well as two different holes on the side plates not lining up correctly. - This thing puts out basically no heat. I just assembled it and tried it tonight; it’s 40 degrees out, and the only heat you feel is the heat at the very top…enough to warm your hands - Flame control assembly is a bit cheap. The ignitor cap came cross threaded and doesn’t screw back on fully…luckily it still gets tight enough to make full contact with the battery so it functions - Wheel assembly is a bit flimsy - I can tell this thing is going to rattle when it gets windy outside I like it but it could use some improvements. I wanted it more for the fire feature than the heat, so I’m not overly disappointed in that aspect. If I wanted it mainly for heat, it would be going back – that said, anyone rating these 1-star for lack of heat need to do their research; none of these glass tube heaters put out any appreciable amount of heat. ... show more

  • (1) Terrible instruction manual
Color: Stainless Steel
I researched a number of heaters ranging from ~$200 to ~$1800. Unless you want to spend significantly more for an all-weather outdoor unit that you can leave out in the winter (and having not had one, who knows if that really will hold up), the "sweet spot" in terms of price/performance appears to be in the $350 - $450 price range. This unit weighs 65# vs. the much thinner sheet metal units you can buy at Home Depot and Lowes that weigh ~45 lbs. The issues as noted before are: (1) Terrible instruction manual...be patient and you can assemble in ~2.5 focused hours, but wear gloves as the aluminum sheet metal edges can cut; if you buy two units, use the first one as your template to assemble the 2nd and it will go faster then looking at the photos in the manual. (2) Make sure you get the triangular and not square AZ cover which fits the triangular glass tube unit. Use duct tape and tape the inside seams of the top part of the cover so the triangular reflector head's sharp aluminum edges won't cut through the plastic. Suggestions for AZ: (1) Improve your manual, the order of instructions and photos are not always in sequence and have a native English speaking person proof! There is no excuse for an American company not to do this regardless if the unit is manufactured in China. (2) Bevel the sharp edges of the aluminum sheets, esp. the reflector top (3) Reinforce the triangular top of the plastic cover so it is not easy to cut through (related to no. 2 above) ... show more

  • Patio Heater
Color: Stainless Steel
This heater is quite impressive to look at. Although, I did not realize the height of this model. It is definitely too tall to store under our eaves or our gazebo. We have concerns about the inclement weather tipping it over and shattering the glass. The patio heater was delivered in really bad shape. I took pictures of the beaten, ripped, and torn box in case there were any issues with broken or bent pieces. Luckily, it was securely packed and all pieces were intact. Although it was missing the two wheel assemblies. I called the 800 number and was directed to a website to report the missing pieces. The directions indicate 90 minute assembly time.... no way. This is very inaccurate. It took me hours!! Most of the large pieces had protective coverings on them. These all needed to be removed before assemblying. In several cases, the protective seal left a sticky residue which I had to remove with Goo Gone then was each piece. Some of the directions were not specific enough or the terminology wasn't in sync with the directions. Eg: In the first step they mention attaching the "hood" to the plate. Product list does not have a hood listed. Labeling parts with the letters A,B,C..etc from the package contents would be helpful. Fortunately, the pieces fit exactly: holes were perfectly set. We may have to sell this heater to a restaurant because it may be too tall to keep on our deck. Yet I hate to give it up because it looks so awesome. ... show more

  • Good but not great!
Color: Black
Three things keep the heater from being rated higher. First there was no assembly /owners manual in the box which necessitated a serch on the good old internet for it. Once in hand the assembly was quite easy. Second the heater uses a “silicone” gasket at the top ofk the quartz glass tube which is then packed with a piece of fiberglass/ceramic rope between the silicone gasket and the steel retainer at the top to further insulate the glass. However the silicon immediately burned to ash during the first use on high dropping onto the burner. Now the glass is loose at the top must be held when moving the unit. It does not appear to affect the operation of the heater but still a poor design. Third the heater provides less heat than expected from our experience/history with others of this type. It does seem to cover about 80-120square feet of area, roughly 4-6 feet on any side. It is generally well built, and very pleasing to look at on the patio at night. It is fairly heavy in the box and the box was quite beat up and torn when recieved but since it is well packed nothing was damaged. ... show more
