  • What to Know - My Experience
Style: Wheels/Table Color: Hammered Bronze / SS
I ordered two of these heaters, which I had owned before and are top rated quality heaters. I checked everywhere and Amazon had very competitive pricing. The heaters were delivered with 24 hours so another positive. However, beware the packaging and handling can be an issue. Both heaters were delivered to my front porch and the outside of the boxes have clear arrows for which end should be up - one was delivered upside down. There is good plastic strapping around the heaters but the bottom of the boxes are not taped very well with gaps where parts can be lost. When I opened both heaters, I found that the nuts that are used for the wheel assembly were loose in the box but was lucky to find them all. However, the plastic base that attaches to the metal base has four screws and nuts holding them together. In both boxes, all of the preassembled nuts had come loose and in one box I was missing two nuts as the box was damaged and poorly taped allowing them to be lost in the delivery handling. I had to go to a local Ace hardware store to get two replacement nuts for about $0.40/each vs waiting weeks for the Hiland customer service to send replacements. Another thing to prepare for is that the plastic base is not filled with sand so I had to go purchase a bag of play sand to fill each base. I purchased a 50lb bag of sand and used a plastic cup and my fingers to jam each base full so that it adds safety and stability to the heater for windy days. Each base held 25lbs of sand. Finally, since my boxes looked liked they had taken a beating during shipping, I was concerned that some of the light metal parts mights be dented or bent. They were not as the internal packaging was adequate. Total assembly time is estimated at one hour, but tracking down missing parts, filling the base with sand and removing the blue protective plastic cover on the deflector shields will make assembly time longer. Make sure you get all of the micro blue plastic off the deflector shield before your first burn! ... show more

  • Effective
Style: Bronze Patio Heater Color: Hammered Bronze Finish
Easy to assemble, added the heat shield and it kept me toasty for cigar and scotch nights. One of the wheels is a dud though and I can’t find out how to contact the seller for a replacement wheel. Only 4 stars due to that. I bought this one: Hiland-HLDS01-CGT

  • Musing the weight bladder
Style: Bronze Patio Heater Color: Hammered Bronze Finish
This item is missing an important safety part, the weight bladder that keeps it upright. The bladder is described in the listing and even shown in the photos but it was not in the package. I’ve seen some say they got it, others say they didn’t, so I’m unsure whether Hiland changed this along the way, but please do make sure you get one; one on Amazon doesn’t fit this model well, but one on another site (if I name it they probably won’t run my review) was perfect and sold for under $50. Anyone who says the propane tank is heavy enough and the weight bladder isn’t needed is wrong; your propane gets lighter as you use up the propane. You will have to get the bolts and bits as well. Why Hiland stopped including this with the heater I will never understand. They should update the description and photos because it’s misleading. I bought two of these and the weight bladder was not in either one. Beyond that fairly to put together. 1-2 hours. Set up the silver discs for too on Floor to connect. The blue plastic protecting them was extremely difficult to remove on one side because it is rolled right into the rolled metal edge. I had to pull gently to try to get it to come out without tearing. Literally involved tweezers and about an hour of effort; that plastic should not go that far within the rolled edge line that. And most of the many washers are not mentioned or shown in Instructions, you just guess which side they go on I guess. In the end my two heaters look great and I hope all goes well come spring…it just was a shame I had to spend an extra $90 to get all the missing parts for them. Amazon shoukd make them update this listing to remove mention and photos of the weight bladders…because they are no longer included and IMO you do need them. ... show more

  • Nice heat, Easy to lite, needs more infrastructure and SS hardware.
Style: Bronze Patio Heater Color: Hammered Bronze Finish
Packaging: Nicely packed and arrived undamaged. Assembly: It took me better part of 1 hour to assemble. The hardest part was filling it with sand, then taking the blue film off of the 4 SS metal reflector pieces. (I assume they are SS) Function: Puts out a lot of heat and lighting it got getting used to. There is a pilot light that has to stay lit for about 10 seconds before you turn it to low and let it burn for about 30 seconds .. then crank it up. It's hard to see the pilot light at first so that was confusing. I know where to look now. Build: The tank cover with door is held in place by to the heavy base (filled with sand) by four screws making it somewhat flexible when tipping it on its wheels to move it. I found dragging is a better option - there is a lot of flexing and I don't want it to bend. There should be metal supports that go from the base to where the hollow rod attaches. (I think the amazon version-branded has this.) The rod that hold the burner it not vertical because the tank-cover is so flimsy. I needed to shim with washers to get it to stand up straight. But that's ok, just a little more work. The little table that comes with it is extremely difficult to tighten - good luck with that. The two holes in the "tank-cover" can be used as handles but realize that the base is heavy and ... again ... it needs more internal support. Finish: Very nice. Would I recommend this ... well somewhat ... it's just ok due to flimsy build. Update: I just got a Amazon Basics Commercial to compare it to. THIS ONE WINS! The amazon basics is about 4" taller is it looks silly out there with this one. See my review on that piece of junk. This one has a nice little table to whereas the AB doesn't. ... show more

  • Great patio heater! Read below...
Style: W/Table Color: Hammered Silver / SS
I've used this heater once for a party and it worked great. After I assembled it did take me a good 30 minutes to get it working but that was my fault. I bought a new 20 lb propane tank from Home Depot to go with this heater. The new tanks will not release gas simply by opening the valve at the top. It has a sort of automatic check valve which won't open unless the regulator (hose) on the heater is screwed all the way on. I mean ALLL the way. It looked like it was screwed on good and it was very tight and wouldn't turn any more but after taking it off and on a few times I was able to screw it on even more than the previous times. So it must be aligned correctly or else you'll think it's on all the way but no propane will be able to leave the tank. The table is a very nice addition for drinks or food or anything. It is easily adjustable in height with large black plastic nuts. Looks great. I ordered a good $40 patio heater cover as well and I first thought the cover was not going to fit due to the table but then I realized I could just lower the table all the way down to store it in the cover and raise it as I please on the next use. The heat output is great! Standing close to it really warmed the top of my head a little too much for comfort but sitting next to it would be perfect. Again, the heat output was awesome, however, if some wind picks up it really takes away the heat. I'm betting it will perform better if situated near a wall and I'm positive there will be no lessened performance if shielded from the wind. I plan to buy a high-center pitched tarp canopy with enclosable side walls to shield from the wind and have a nice warm space in my backyard for the cold nights with guests. I'm a 3-ft clearance from a flame-retardant (not fire-proof) tarp should be sufficient. The first time I lit the pilot I used a stick lighter thinking my ignition button was a dud. But later that night the ignition button lit it right up without a problem. Maybe it just needed to get warmed up. Overall, I've received compliments from my guest and I am happy with the quality, look, and price of this product and would recommend. ... show more

  • Aside from the price, Excellent Heater Performs Quite Well
Style: Bronze Patio Heater Color: Hammered Bronze Finish
Recently had to replace our prior patio heater due to issues pertaining to parts and repair. This Hiland HLDS01-WCGT model seem to be an excellent choice. It was relatively easy to assemble save for peeling the plastic off the hood pieces. Having actually read the directions, I was able to get it through the purge process and get the pilot to light on the first try. This pilot feature seems to be a good idea as it appears to enable the heater to fire up more reliably and safely. We've used it consistently since purchase on chilly evenings. My only complaint is the cost. It appears that amid the current pandemic, many vendors have taken opportunity to jack up prices in an egregious manner. A relative who owns this model purchased earlier paid half of what I had to. If it wasn't something I needed to use frequently, and have been for years, I probably would have passed/waited. I want make it clear that is not a reflection of the heater itself, which is a top notch device. If a reliable heater is a necessity, this one is the model to get. ... show more

  • Great heater!
Style: Wheels/Table Color: Hammered Bronze / SS
Very effective and functional heater, but the automatic lighter stopped working the first week. Now lighting it with a manual lighter. A pain, but dependable.
