The HF96 thermal camera delivers usable thermal imaging and the laser pointer helps target hot or cold spots accurately. Image clarity is fine for general inspections, and the interface is straightforward enough for DIY or light professional use. That said, the battery life is noticeably shorter than advertised—it drains faster than expected, making longer sessions frustrating. Even more concerning, the camera arrived with preloaded images from a previous user, which makes me question the quality control or whether this was a return sold as new. That could also explain the battery issue. It’s functional, but those issues prevent me from giving a higher rating. Pros: •Clear thermal imaging for basic inspections •Laser pointer aids targeting •Simple interface Cons: •Battery life degrades quickly or mine came used and that is the cause? •Preloaded images suggest prior use •Not ideal for extended projects without extra power. Also wish the laser could be utilized without a capture function. Bottom line: Works for casual use or short inspections, but the battery and possible prior use make it less reliable for serious or professional tasks. Edit: the seller has reached out with a resolution I find fair, updating back to 5 stars.

Great cheap thermal reader. Works like you want even at 100 ft range has only ~4% accuracy difference from point-blank. Would recommend for medium-rough temp measurement. Gripe is trigger taking picture. Too easy to bump.

Thank you project farm (Youtube). This thermal camera is priced so well for its performance that I was able to justify buying it. The resolution is good enough that I can see studs in walls in some instances, find cooler than average exhaust ports on engines to help diagnose a miss, and see breakers/wiring that have heated up. It has been a great tool so far.

Being a Realtor, I have seen my home inspector use this kind of device in home inspections and wanted one for myself. After looking online and comparing models, this one gave me all that I was searching for at a reasonable price. I have used this in my home and my RV. It is comfortable to hold. It is not bulky nor top heavy and is pretty easy to use. The clarity of the large screen works handily with the hot and cold sensitivity receptors such that you can isolate the exact problem spots.

Got this from Amazon for my primary contractor (also electrician) after reading some reviews online. It was delivered very fast. The price was uber affordable and the device itself packed with all the needed features BUT more. I had to learn how to use it first and then introduced to my contractor which took no time for him to get a hang of it and the lightweight of the device makes it easy for him to carry around. He likes the real-time viewing function, as well as capturing images. He does electrician works for a ton of new constructions as well as old apartment buildings in South Bay and he's very well equipped with tools but he certain appreciates this handheld thermal device that comes with built-in laser pointer for help him locate the object in the dark environment. It says the batter lasts 8 hours but so far he's gone 2 days w/o having to recharge. The built-in flash memory seems to be keeping a lot of thermal images he was taking on day one playing with this device. Overall, great device at this price. He may get a few for his workers too.
