  • A high-quality professional tool for a reasonable price, useful for amateurs
Style: Gen 3 iOS
I bought an IR camera awhile back, and returned it because it was too hard to tell what was going in just the infrared spectrum. I can't say enough good things about this device. It's a little tiny light box that attaches to the end of your cellphone, so that you can see on your screen the infrared image with what is basically a line drawing of your visible light image superimposed so you know what you are looking at. You can walk around a space and, in real time, see what's hot and cold. There is a point in the center of the image that tells you the temperature of whatever it's aimed at, in Fahrenheit or Celsius. So, for example, you can see right through your walls to the studs and braces, and whether there is insulation or not. The other day, I thought I smelled smoke--I took out the FLIR, and within seconds, spotted some equipment behind some stuff on a shelf that had accidentally been turned on, with other stuff blocking the vents. It was over 100 degrees--which I could see immediately on the screen. I doubt it would have caused a fire but it would have ruined the equipment had I not seen it instantly because of this device. When I installed a window air conditioner, I was able to see immediately where the exhaust was going in a meaningful way so that I didn't have to guess. I can see just how much heat different appliances radiate in "vampire" mode. The uses of this thing are unlimited. The price has finally come down to where it's possible for the average consumer to own one. I'm in love with this device. It's very easy to use, too, no real learning curve. ... show more

  • Good basic thermal imager for household use.
Style: Gen 3 USB-C
The range on it is pretty short, and it tops out at 150C so this is strictly for household/casual use. It's helpful to find pets in the dark, and if you ever smell pee, it will show up as a dark spot on thermal making it super easy to find. It also indicates insulation issues, like when I look at my front door I can see a bright ring around it, indicating that there's a lot of heat coming in from the edges. The downside, it takes a long time to load up. Sometimes after several minutes I'll give up, restart the app, and then suddenly it connects in 10 seconds. (which for it, is fast) Frame rate is very choppy, and the image is prone to just seizing up for a couple seconds every now and then. Also even though there's an adjustable knob on the camera, if you use an Otterbox or any heavy-duty phone case, it won't fit. You'll either need to remove the case every time you want to use the FLIR, or get a USBC extension cable and hold the camera in one hand, phone in the other. Also I've noticed it does not handle reflective surfaces very well. As an example I had a pot on the stove and the FLIR was telling me it was only 22C. I pressed an instant read thermometer up against it, and it was closer to 50C. That is a HUGE discrepancy, and the only thing I can think of is that it's shiny and polished. So it was probably picking up the heat from whatever was reflecting off it, which would've been ambient light from the room, and the room was about 22C. So while it was interesting to see how thermal imaging differs from visual light, it does show off that this thing is prone to making mistakes. ... show more

  • A Game-Changer for Thermal Imaging
Style: Gen 3 iOS
I recently purchased the FLIR ONE Gen 3 - iOS - Thermal Camera for Smart Phones, and let me tell you, it's a game-changer! This little gadget has transformed my world into a colorful, thermal wonderland. At first, I was skeptical about the capabilities of a thermal camera for my phone, but this little gem has exceeded all of my expectations. The MSX Image Enhancement Technology is a game-changer, allowing me to see things in thermal imaging that I never thought possible. It's like my own personal superpower! One of the first things I did with my FLIR ONE was to take it on a ghost hunt with some friends. We were exploring an old abandoned building, and the FLIR ONE picked up all sorts of strange heat signatures. We found out that the ghost we were looking for was actually just a raccoon living in the attic, but it was still a fun experience nonetheless. I've also used the FLIR ONE to investigate some strange noises coming from my attic. I was convinced that there was some sort of monster living up there, but it turns out it was just a pesky squirrel. Thanks to the FLIR ONE, I was able to see exactly where it was hiding and evict it from my home. But the real fun with the FLIR ONE is just exploring the world around me. I've used it to see where my cat likes to sleep during the day (turns out it's on top of the fridge), to see which of my houseplants are getting the most sunlight, and to check the temperature of my coffee (because who doesn't want to know that?). Overall, I give the FLIR ONE Gen 3 - iOS - Thermal Camera for Smart Phones five out of five stars. It's a little pricey, but it's worth every penny for the endless entertainment and utility it provides. Plus, it makes me feel like a superhero, and who doesn't want that? Here's a comparison between the FLIR ONE Gen 3 for iOS and the SEEK Compact Pro Thermal Imaging Camera: FLIR ONE Gen 3 - iOS - Thermal Camera for Smart Phones: * Thermal sensor resolution: 80x60 * Temperature range: -4°F to 248°F (-20°C to 120°C) * Field of view: 55° x 43° * Minimum focus distance: 0.5 meters * App compatible with iOS devices * Battery life: up to 1 hour SEEK Compact Pro Thermal Imaging Camera: * Thermal sensor resolution: 320x240 * Temperature range: -40°F to 626°F (-40°C to 330°C) * Field of view: 32° * Minimum focus distance: 15 cm * App compatible with iOS and Android devices * Battery life: up to 4 hours As you can see, the SEEK Compact Pro has a much higher thermal sensor resolution than the FLIR ONE Gen 3, which means it can provide more detailed thermal images. It also has a wider temperature range and longer battery life. However, the FLIR ONE Gen 3 has a slightly larger field of view and a shorter minimum focus distance, which may be useful in certain applications. In terms of compatibility, both cameras have apps that are compatible with iOS devices, but the SEEK Compact Pro also has an app that is compatible with Android devices. Overall, the SEEK Compact Pro is a more advanced thermal imaging camera with higher resolution and better features, but it is also more expensive than the FLIR ONE Gen The choice between the two will depend on your specific needs and budget. ... show more

  • My Flir One Edge Pro is working great!
Style: EDGE PRO
I just got the Edge Pro model and connected it to my IPhone 15 Pro Max. I couldn’t be happier with it! I don’t understand the negative reviews citing connectivity and latency issues. Mine stays connected, looks great, and has a latency of maybe half a second at most. Maybe app and/or firmware updates have fixed previous problems, or maybe the newer phone operating systems work better, but I have no problems at all. The overlay of the visible image with the infrared image has been right on and fully automatic for me so far. I especially like the mode that shows the center temperature along with the hottest and coolest temperatures in the frame in real time. Nice and rugged, too. Good battery life. What a great tool! ... show more
