I was looking for a recumbent bike that was fairly heavy (This is 77 lbs.) and with a solidly built steel frame for strength and stability, with a somewhat heavy fly wheel (This is 29 lbs.) for smoothness, more than 8 levels of magnetic resistance ( This has 14) , a real time LCD display, and a sturdy place for my tablet. I just wanted a good basic recumbent at an affordable price. The price was made even better with the discount offer if one is a Prime member, even a trial member. I did not need to plug in my machine to change the resistance levels at the push of a button or have pre-programed workout routines, or 30 levels of resistance, or plug in my USB stick or have built in speakers. I am not an avid enthusiast that needs a thousand dollar or better machine. I just wanted something to provide a good reliable workout that allows me some growth. This is what the Harrison HR b8 provides. I can see why it is an Amazon Choice pick. I was home when the Amazon truck delivered it, and they brought it right into my house when I asked. Since it is nearly a 100-pound package that helped me a lot. The packaging was perfect. Each piece was individually wrapped and there was not a scratch or ding on any piece. The directions are clear and concise with a picture for each step. If you pair that with their excellent online assembly video, which I think you should watch first, the build is straight forward and not too hard. I have never put anything together before that was beyond adding a few screws, but being careful, there was little difficulty. Although it did take a while. Everything works and is secure. An extra pair of hands is helpful at times. Now that I have ridden it for a while, here are some of the things I think stand out. It is solid, secure, and the craftsmanship is excellent. There is a wide opening that makes getting on and off so easy and the hand grips give extra support if one needs it getting up and down and in and out. The seat is relatively easy to adjust and stays secure. Tightening is a bit awkward when sitting. Mine had no trouble sliding. The vented back has just the right amount of support for me. The seat is a little hard, but I added a small square couch type pillow and now it is perfect. It is really quiet and smooth riding, It is easy to turn the knob to increase the resistance. The display is good although I wish it was backlit for easier reading in some lighting and for the small print. The tablet holder is sturdy, and I use it for workouts, rides or music that I have found online. Reading is difficult as it is pretty far away, and one has to really bend forward to swipe to turn the pages. The on-line warranty was easy to fill out and I did have a question about something minor and got an answer in a day. I was a bit hesitant when I ordered it as this is not one of the larger well- recognized companies or the most advertised, reviewed and videoed recumbent. But the 30 day no question return put my mind more at ease. At this price, especially with the Prime discount, I think it would be difficult to do better for a solid mid-level workout recumbent.

I decided to wait a while before writing a review to see if any problems arose during use of the product. They have not, and I have now ridden it almost 300 miles. (Yes, it has a digital odometer, although it resets to zero after each 100 miles.) This bike was not as easy to assemble as I was led to believe - it took my wife and me about 5 hours to put it together and when it was over we had one leftover part which was not specifically called out in the instructions. I contacted customer service and sent a picture of the part and they actually sent me a video of where that part should have been installed and how to put it in. (This led me to believe that I was not the only person who had experienced this problem.) The video was narrated in Chinese but the narration was really unnecessary as the visual was quite clear and the bike is now whole! What is most remarkable about this product is how quietly and smoothly it operates. The engineering is simply outstanding. My wife commented early on that she couldn't tell I was actually on the bike unless she came into the bedroom where we have it and saw me sitting on it and pedaling. The seat is comfortable and the entire rig is very sturdy. (I weigh 240 pounds.) The digital display offers, in addition to the odometer, readouts for speed, distance, time, calories, and heart rate (which is read by sensors in the handles on either side of the seat.) To be honest, there is no way that the calorie calculation could be correct since it seems to be based entirely on distance pedaled and does not take into consideration factors such as my age and weight, which are not input at any point. The bike is not programmable (offering different workout regimens, setting goals, etc.) as the display tells you only what you are doing or have done, but bikes that are programmable cost hundreds of dollars more and that wasn't worth it for me. The only negative comment I can make is that there is an iPad holder (which also can hold a beverage or water bottle) affixed to the top of the handlebars, but it is of no use if you actually need to touch your iPad (for example to scroll pages in a digital book or newspaper) because it is too far from the seat to reach comfortably. This is not a big deal, because I can hold my iPad in my hands, but I do need to set it somewhere to get a pulse reading. Of course if all you want to do with your iPad is stream a movie or TV show, that would be fine. In any case, it seems odd that it would be designed this way where a normal sized person can't easily reach the iPad holder without leaning forward awkwardly. I have attached a picture to show the position of the iPad holder. On the whole I am very pleased with this product and happy that I selected it from the many offerings on Amazon of exercise bikes. For the price, it is a sound product, well engineered and manufactured, and the customer service was satisfactory apart from the Chinese narration on the video they sent me. Given what I know now, for the same price I would buy it again.
