  • Good starter coop. Best for small chickens
Pattern Name: 118" x 54" x 50"
It’s certainly very study, weather proof, and pleasing to the eyes. The wood is not so thick as to be too heavy, nor too thin so as to be flimsy, and it’s weather-treated. The assembly instructions are easy to follow, and all of the screw placements are marked. I’d estimate that it took me about 5 hours, but I’m also slow because I’m disorganized and distracted. My chickens like and consistently use the nesting boxes and the perches. It’s easy to access the inside and underneath because there are doors in the front, back, underside, front and side of the run, and over the nesting boxes, and all of them lock securely. I built it over top of some hardware cloth, put bricks around the base, and glass panes on the top of the run to keep the chickens dry, and neither raccoons nor foxes, nor aerial predators were able to get to them (and they certainly tried!) The coop’s size makes it easy to keep warm, and the little run was very useful in sub-freezing temperatures, as I covered it with a clear tarp and put the heated waterer inside, and it kept the water from freezing and the chickens congregated in there for warmth. Now that the weather is warmer, the chickens like to hang out under the coop in the shade. There is adequate airflow and ventilation with the windows at the top, and you can adjust the width of them with the sliding doors, which is nice. I also like the pull handle for the sliding doors so you can open and close it without having to go in the run. However, I wouldn’t recommend it for more than 4 adult or full sized chickens; there isn’t enough space for them to roost, and you’ll definitely need to build a bigger run eventually. I had 8 adults in the coop at one point, and while this kept them warm, several resorted to sleeping on the floor in their droppings. The drawer on the bottom that has their bedding/droppings would probably pull out with a minimal amount of chicken sand, but it does not work well with pine shavings or if you’re doing the deep litter method. The slot under the sliding door need to be cleaned regularly to keep it working, as litter and chicken poo clog it up and prevent it from closing all the way. (But I don’t think that can be avoided.) I covered the roof with a tarp to make it easier to clean, as the chickens like to jump and roost on it. It’s a good starter coop if you have young chickens or bantam breeds. I’m moving my adults into a shed-sized coop and using this one to raise my next batch of chicks. I think it’s a good price for what it is. ... show more

  • DO NOT BUY
Pattern Name: 118" x 54" x 50"
DO NOT BUY!!! Way to small to fit chickens more like a coop for quail. The roosting bars in the coop are to low not enough room. I do not recommend anyone to buy this

  • NOT for 8-10 chickens
Pattern Name: 118" x 54" x 50"
The media could not be loaded. Being new to the chicken world, I thought if a chicken coop was listed as housing 8 to 10 chickens, that's what it meant. I have eight chickens and they do not fit in this coop. They hardly have any space to walk in the run and don't fit inside the chicken coop itself. While I waited to purchase a second coop, they were fighting a lot because of the limited space. I had to buy a second coop off of face book so they could have somewhere safe and could go inside at night. When we were building the coop, we noticed right out of the box that the sliding door (the one that goes up and down where you can install a timer) was cracked. Eventually, it won't be usable. I reached out and asked if they could replace the panel with the broken wood - it's not that big, just one piece - and they said no, but offered me forty dollars. I didn't want it. If they'd given me the money, I'd feel obligated to give them more stars because that's nice and all, but I shouldn't have to spend over four hundred dollars on a coop and then go buy wood glue and staples to fix it. This isn't good customer service. I'm not sure if they have a quality assurance department, but I'm guessing they don't. The quality overall isn't great. There are six nesting boxes and my chickens broke one, which wasn't a big deal since I wasn’t expecting solid work to begin with. It has one roosting bar up high in the nesting box area where you can only fit one chicken, and then three roosting spots on the floor about 2 inches off the sliding tray. Also, cleaning this thing sucks! Sure, it has a sliding tray for the nesting area, but this thing is so short and tiny that it makes raking or scooping poop hard. Even though the measurements are given in the description, the video and images are pretty deceiving. My toddler who's two cannot stand upright in there. Would I recommend this chicken coop? it looks nice on the seller's page, but I'd only recommend it to someone who has two chickens. That said, at this price there are better options. If I had two chickens, this would be wonderful for them. I'm just not sure how long it would last. I gave it two stars because if It keeps my two large chickens secure at night. But my other 6 have to sleep somewhere else. ... show more
