  • Did what I wanted and more.
Size: 12" Chainsaw (4.0Ah)
Product arrived quick and intact. And off to great start. Battery was included and charger. Charged with no problems. And even this one had the usb if needed. Hence for emergency maybe to power a light, or such. Everything went together. The key is to know what the equipment was designed for. Helped to clear a lot of small limbs for elderly neighbor and older roots and such in/around the yard. Only thin is you might have to keep rechecking the chain tension. After ever limb or two. And it works better when you can of course have a good angle on whatever being cut. And give it second or two to spin up. I ordered the two extra batteries just in case. But if used smartly in warm weather. And not over worked and therefore getting hot (both chainsaw and battery). Works very well and few hours (Hence cutting, then moving limbs and making smaller, etc). I would put this in category more than trimming. But not designed for all out and all day continuous big tree stuff. And the batteries can be used with other tools. Key I thing is not over do it. And keeping the chain proper tension, sharpened, and cleaned. --- Oh...as some have mentioned. Recommend releasing the battery when you set it down for a while (or during transport, or going from here to there, until actual time to use). When the battery is connected and fully seated. -- It is ready to go. -- Thereby someone, or yourself might grab the handle and hit the power trigger. Safety here. ... show more

  • Light weight
Size: 12" Chainsaw (4.0Ah)
I like how small and light weight it is. The battery lasts about 30 min depending on how big the cuts are. We've had it camping and it would go through about 1 tree and I would have to adjust the chain. I could usually get through 6-8 juniper trees before the 4.0ah battery would die. I just got 2x 5.0ah batteries so we should be able to process a lot of wood now. ... show more

  • As compared to a few other hand-held chainsaw offerings
Size: 12" Chainsaw (4.0Ah)
Update (12/4/22): Used this for a 30-minute job, to clear some hale koa trees, which are very hard/tough. Cut about twenty (20) ranging from 1-4" in diameter. These are very tough, so you have to go slow when cutting. The 24V and 0.043" gauge chain did well. Stopped a few times, but that was expected, as even my 56V ego with a 0.050" chain will stop too. As this was the first use, I did notice the chain initially stretched, and on really long cuts (through the 3-4" diameter trunks, the chain adjuster did tend to loosen. One other tip is that if the chain loosens, you need to back off the adjuster, then retighten for the tension mechanism to engage. Overall I am very impressed with this saw. Update (12/1/22): Regarding the chain brake, it is non-functional. It does move when bumped, but does not lock back like a normal operational one. Not a deal breaker, but do keep that in mind. The manual states on page 14 that the "machine does not start", because "the chain brake is engaged". This appears to be generic wording that does not apply to this model. There are a few 1-star reviews about the chain falling off; a couple things to consider: a) this is a 0.043" gauge chain, which is smaller than most, and all chains stretch during the first few uses; b) having used many different models, I would say the auto-tensioning ones will give you the most problem. There really is a sweet spot for chain tension, and you can only really get it nearly perfect, if you have the traditional, not the all-in-one adjusters. My recommend for this is during the final torque on the locking knob, apply a little tension to the chain WHILE doing the final tension on the knob, then when you let go ,you'll find the chain should slack a little. If you do not do this extra step, I have found the chain ends up running too tight, which is bad for wear (increased), and bad for battery life (increased load). Summary: In the past 2-3 years, there have been quite a few small, hand-held, chainsaw offerings. There are many one-hand operation units in the $30-80 range, which I don't like because they are cheaply made, and most do not feature a top guard (or other relevant safety features). I reviewed the offering from SEYVUM back in May 2022, and I really liked some of the newer features, specifically the tool-less adjustment of the chain, and the safety guards. In Sept 2022, I reviewed the relatively larger V-MODEST to that one, as well as the Black and Decker Alligator loppers. So I will be comparing this 12-inch Greenworks 24V with the 4.0AH battery to those. One of the biggest drivers to purchasing this Greenworks (not a Vine review), is that I have quite a few of the Greeenworks 24V tools. The higher power draw tools really do need the 4.0 vs. 2.0 AH battery. Background: I bought my first electric chainsaw in 2015 (Kobalt 80V), and also evaluated the Ego 56V (1st gen), and Echo 58V. Since then, I have bought a 2nd and 3rd generation Ego 56V, as well as a Black & Decker 20V Lopper, which is the closest item that the SEYVUM and V-MODEST can be compared to. The safety feature of the B&D is that you have to have both hands on the tool to operate it. The SEYVUM does feature a trigger lock, and guard (not a chain brake). The V-MODEST has the same features. And the Greenworks has a safety interlock trigger, and chain brake (which some the lower models do not). Observations: 1) tool-less adjustment, so no more messing with wrenches; 2) two batteries, which are 4.0 AH; 3) this one, at 24-volts is one of the higher voltage offerings (typically 18-20V); the 4.0AH batteries are on the larger end too (see additional discussion below); 4) this one features a full wrap around handle, which after using the V-MODEST for a couple of hours, I really do prefer the larger full wrap handle, for better CONTROL, and therefore SAFETY. Recommendations (chainsaws): 1) Anytime you're considering a power tool, it makes sense to get one that you already have batteries/charger; for me that would be Milwaukee M12/M18, Black & Decker 20V, Worx 20V; 2) a brushless motor will cost more, but if more efficient, and less maintenance (no brushes to wear down and change), so definitely worth the added cost (all the electric saws I own are brushless); 3) generally higher voltage is more power; this smaller end line is typically 18-24V (with the common offering being 20V, same as this one); 4) a chainsaw is generally a high power use item, so the 3.0Ah battery offering is disappointing, and this is proven by the short (no load [not cutting]) performance, a 4.0-6.0 Ah would have been much preferred; 5) buy a good quality chainsaw sharpening kit, the smaller the saw, the more important a sharp chain will be (crucial in this application); 5) consider the tool only offering of this chainsaw at about $100 if you already have the 4.0 AH batteries. Recommendations (power tools): These power tools really make economic sense when you can get multiple tools with the same battery. When I first got into power tools, I did months of research, and ended up going with Milwaukee. However, the Greenworks 24V line would be more than sufficient for the average homeowner's project needs, especially given the wide range of available tools. Pros: Tool-less chain adjustment; two batteries; bar sheath. Cons: Cost, at $200 for the chainsaw plus two (2) 4.0 AH batteries, and single fast charger (this much better if you can get it discounted). Conclusion: At $200, rating this 4-stars initially (cost), and will update this review once I've had more time using it, as well as had time to take a look under the hood. • Plenty of power for a 24V. Runs much quiter than a corded saw.
Size: 12" Chainsaw (4.0Ah)
I was really wanting to get a 40V saw, but when I was able to get this 24V model for well under half the cost of the 40V, I jumped at the chance. Glad I did. Battery life seems good. I have cut 6 dead trees down with this saw in the one week I have owned it. They were all 12-15 ft tall pines that were approx 6-8" diameter trunk at ground level. This saw cut them all down and trimmed off the limbs from the trunks on one battery charge. The only thing to watch for is the chain does tend to come loose more than expected. So be mindful to keep tightening the tension. I am guessing this is because the chain is new, and will stretch less after the first few times it is used. I had to remove the cover, remove the bar and get the chain back on 3 diff times on the first 2 trees. But that was a simple process, and once I realized I was letting it get to loose, it did not happen again. ... show more

  • The **BEST** saw for small jobs
Size: 12" Chainsaw (4.0Ah)
I own 3 Husqvarna saws of different bar lengths. I want a small. lightweight saw for when I am in the trees. This is heaven sent. Absolutely fantastic saw. Some advice for beginners: 1. Chain must be about 1/2" free play from bar (with all hand chain adjustors, first loosen then tighten) 2. Always have bar chain oil or the chain will eat the bar and lots of heat from friction 3. Start saw free for a second before entering the cut, and don't force, let the chain eat the wood 4. Never touch chain to non-wood surfaces (like the dirt ground, or dried mud on the wood at cut point) b/c that will dull your blade very quickly 5. Avoid cutting dried wood or inevitably 6. Learn to sharpen chain from youtube I love Greenworks tools and interchangeable 24V. ... show more

  • youll need chain bar oil
Size: 12" Chainsaw (4.0Ah)
for the most part i am satisfied with this product but two issues worth noting. Nothing on the description says this but you will need to buy separately oil for the chain, you cant operate it without it. Second the chain tensioner is not easy to use and you will have to adjust the chain often as it gets loose and comes off the bar as happen to me. Cuts well and has decent power for a battery operated device. ... show more
