I've had one outside the tub to hold while I get in,it's on a 6x4 inch tile,its shockingly sturdy. After about 4 months of use the top suction cup came loose,it was obvious ,Clealy visible and went right back on, been sturdy 3 weeks now. The other one I have on the shower wall,it's like a plastic wall,I hold onto it when washing my legs and feet. Very sturdy so far. I'm 330 lbs, I don't put all my weight on it of course but I'm trying to say,it can handle some weight. Very helpful and so easy to put up. I'm happy with the purchase.

Some people flat out said that these didn't work at all. After receiving these and experimenting with them, I realized that the problems reported were not the fault of the product at all. There's no question whatsoever that some folks just are not analytical and do not grasp the principles which must be observed for certain products to work. This product is a perfect example. All I can tell you is that if you encounter any difficulty at all getting reliable attachment of these, then do yourself a learning exercise. First, in the process of trying these on surfaces, it's easy to pick up an almost unnoticeable amount of dust, micro powder film, or other contaminants. So, before the following demonstration, use a little mild soap and water or even a little alcohol to completely clean the suction cups. This is just a precaution and probably not necessary, but do it anyway. Then, just to prove to yourself, in general, that these stick on reliably, lightly moisten the suction cup - saliva works but so does clean water. Now, with the snap latches UNLATCHED (in the up position), place these onto any flat glass surface. For my demo test, I used a storm window. Latch the cups down. Now just leave it there for a week before you check it. It will be just as SOLIDLY adhered as it was Day 1. The key is a quality, nonpermeable surface. Obviously, this is just a test. But what about tiles and other microscopically irregular surfaces? Buy yourself the 3M film here on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B3IXSMA?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details Using the suction cup as a guide, I cut out two circular discs of film just a little bit larger in diameter than the product. This film disc (3M product) has a powerful adhesive backing. This film mimics the smooth glass surfaces used in the product tests we did earlier. I placed these discs onto tile surfaces which would otherwise fail to hold the suction. (( CLEAN THE TILE COMPLETELY WITH CLEANSER AND THEN ALCOHOL TO REMOVE SOAP SCUM etc.). Place the discs where you want the suction cups to be. Think about this placement carefully. The down side is that this film, once applied, is VERY difficult to remove. I consider it permanent although I know I could remove it if I had to do so. Good luck. I have applied this film and suction cup safety product in places where suction cups alone will not hold. Tile that appears smooth is often "kind of smooth" but insufficient to be 100% air-tight - Which it must be for any suction device to hold for extended periods. If you happen to have glass tile in some areas of your shower as I do, these suction handles are a dream. I am older and falling is a big concern. Regardless of the slight inconvenience of having to apply 3M film to surfaces, nothing is too much trouble compared to a trip to the hip, neck, or spine surgeon. So, factor in a bit of common sense. This is no time for over-emphasis on aesthetics, in my humble opinion. Use caution and common sense in the application and surfaces chosen. The level of force one can exert on these devices to save a fall CANNOT exceed the strength of whatever the device is attached to. That is, for example, don't pull on loose tile, wall-paper, paint, etc. USE YOUR HEAD and like me, you can increase the safety level for the elderly in need of just a little help and balance. BE SAFE AND USE THIS ADVICE AT YOUR OWN RISK. I'm just trying to maybe help someone from having a bad fall.

I bought this because I need support getting into my shower after knee surgery. Only one of the handles is sticking. One is totally fine, but the other pops off the wall after a few hours. I do not want to buy another set, but only one is working. Other than that, easy to install and easy to grip.

I have smooth shower tiles. As directed, I wiped down both the tiles and the suction part of these bars with rubbing alcohol, waited until everything was thoroughly dry, and tried installing these. It was almost impossible to get the tabs to close back down. No way to do it with my thumbs - I had to use a folded washcloth to press them down to get the tight seal. Boy, were they every tight! Pulled with all my strength to pull them away, and it was like they were welded on. For about an hour. Gave them another try and on one, the top suction would slide back and forth. Within another hour, both were slipping slightly from side to side, although a good pull still wouldn't get them to release. About an hour after that, one of them just fell off, while the other was pretty easily pulled away. Neither was subjected to any water, such as would occur during an actual shower, so I can't report on whether or not that would make them release any sooner. Now, the instructions say to reapply every time, so you may say, "Well, if they hold tight for at least an hour, they'd last through even a lengthy shower." Maybe yes, maybe no. Personally, I'm not willing to hassle with that, especially when you have to make sure both the tile and the bars are scrubbed clean and dried first, then the tabs practically require Hercules to push them down. I doubt a lot of seniors that would need shower bars in the first place have that kind of strength. I know I couldn't do it with my bare hands. There are a ton of suction bars just like this one for sale on Amazon and elsewhere, and I have to assume that they would all have the same problem. In short, if you're unsteady enough to need shower bars to avoid a nasty fall, just bite the bullet and get the kind installed that actually screw into the wall. Yes, you'll probably need a professional to locate the studs and use a special drill bit to avoid cracking your tiles. Yes, you'll need to accept that they're permanently installed and there will be holes in your tile if you decide to remove them. But if you want to be sure that if you grab the bar, it won't come away in your hands and leave you sprawled across your tub. Or worse.

A 12" should mean dead center of my 4" tiles with one tile between them. These ended up on top of the grout line so there's no suction. When fitted on a tile, the suction is great
